Item Procurement is one of Hekla’s friendship quests in Palia, and it is mostly a shopping trip with one small catch. Hekla asks for three ordinary household items, two of which you can buy in Kilima Village in under a minute. The third — Buttons — has no store listing at all, which is where most players stall.
Quick answer: Reach Friendship Level 2 with Hekla, then bring her 1 Potato, 1 Fabric, and 1 Buttons. The Buttons are free — talk to Jel at the Tailor Shop and ask for spare buttons.
How to unlock Item Procurement
The quest is handed out by Hekla once you hit Friendship Level 2 with her, the rank labeled Academic Associate. You get it by talking to her directly — nothing spawns in your mailbox and there is no location to discover.
If Hekla is not offering it yet, keep raising friendship through conversation and gifts until level 2 registers. Item Procurement sits after A Special Play Date in her quest line and was added to the game in Build 0.165.

The objective list shows 0/1 Potato, 0/1 Buttons, and 0/1 Fabric. All three are consumed when you turn the quest in, so anything you were saving for cooking or furniture will disappear. Buy spares if you need them for something else.
| Item | Where to get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Potato | Register at Daiya Family Farm, Badruu’s gardening store on the west side of Kilima Village | Can also be grown from Potato Seed on your own plot |
| Fabric | Register at Tish’s Furniture Store, under the Material Store tab | 190 Gold, or craft it from Cotton at a Fabric Loom with Furniture Making Level 2 |
| Buttons | Jel at the Tailor Shop in Kilima Village | Free — you have to ask him in dialogue, it is not a stock item |
Everything sits inside Kilima Village, so open your map and plan a single loop: the farm on the west side, then the furniture store, then the tailor. Buying is the faster route for all three — growing potatoes or looming your own fabric only makes sense if you already have the seeds or cotton on hand.

Getting the Buttons from Jel
Buttons never appear in any shop inventory, which is why the objective looks broken. They come from a one-off dialogue option with the village tailor and cost nothing.
Turning the items in to Hekla
Once all three objectives read 1/1, the quest tracker swaps to “Return to Hekla.” She is at the ruins in the north of Kilima, not in the village itself, so use the nearest fast travel point rather than walking the whole way back.
Talk to her with the items in your inventory and the handover happens through dialogue. You will see the reward popups fire and the quest clear from your tracker — that is your confirmation it worked.

Item Procurement rewards
| Reward | Amount |
|---|---|
| Renown | 20 |
| Sweet Leaf | 5 |
| Wild Garlic | 5 |
| Friendship with Hekla | 20 points |
The Wild Garlic is worth holding onto. It restores 10 Focus Points when eaten raw, works as a cooking ingredient, and is required later for the Written in the Stars and Hassian’s Pin quests.
If the quest will not complete
- You browsed Jel’s shop instead of talking to him. Buttons are dialogue-only and will never show up in his sales list.
- The Potato is missing from your inventory. Hekla has a separate line for this, and the turn-in will not trigger until you actually carry one.
- You bought Cotton instead of Fabric. Raw cotton does not count — it has to be run through a Fabric Loom first, or bought as Fabric outright.
- Friendship is still below level 2. Hekla will not offer the quest at all until Academic Associate.
Finishing the turn-in pushes Hekla’s friendship higher, and Potato Shrine becomes available from her once you reach Friendship Level 3. Keeping a spare Potato in your bag after this one is not a bad idea.
