Dog Coins are a rare currency in Palworld 1.0 that you cannot earn through normal trading. Standard wandering merchants and settlement shops will not accept them, and regular Pals will not drop them. Instead, this coin exists for one purpose, which is to buy exclusive gear, cosmetics, and permanent stat items from a single vendor type spread across the Palpagos Islands.

Quick answer: Capture or defeat Mimogs, loot Scrap Piles, open treasure chests, and beat hostile human camps to collect Dog Coins, then trade them at a Medal Merchant found in ruined churches.

Where to get Dog Coins in Palworld 1.0

In earlier builds these coins only appeared on Sakurajima Island. In 1.0 they are spread across the whole map, with several reliable sources. Each method drops a different amount, so mixing them is the fastest way to build a stockpile.

SourceWhat to know
MimogA chest-shaped mimic Pal. Capturing it gives the largest single payout. Low-level Mimogs give roughly 14-21 coins; level 60+ can give more than 100.
Scrap Piles / JunkyardsFixed spawn points that respawn about every 5 real-time hours. A single pile usually holds 2-6 Dog Coins alongside arrows, Pal Spheres, and Paldium Fragments.
Treasure chestsChests in the overworld and inside dungeons can drop a random number of coins.
Human enemiesSyndicate Thugs and other faction fighters occasionally drop coins. It is a rare drop, so do not expect one per kill.
Oil Rig strongholdPacked with hostile humans in one place, which raises your odds. It is an endgame area that needs heavy preparation.

Mimogs spawn across most major regions of the Palpagos Islands but skip smaller areas such as the Hill of Beginnings, Seabreeze Archipelago, and Marsh Island. They can appear near the World Tree, though they are rarer there. Raids are another strong option, and rebuilding bases can reset and respawn them.

How to catch a Mimog before it escapes

Mimog is the best farming target, but it bolts the instant it is startled and can despawn if it gets away. Butchering it gives nothing, so you must capture or defeat it in place. Speed and stun are the two things that matter.

Close the distance fast. Ride a high-speed flying mount so you can reach the Mimog before it starts running, since these Pals move very quickly once disturbed.
Lock it down. Open with a stunning long-range hit such as a rifle headshot or a Rocket Launcher, or box it in first with defensive walls or Hanging Traps so it cannot flee.
Bring its health to a sliver. Wearing a Ring of Mercy keeps the Mimog at 1 HP, which makes a clean capture far easier.
Throw a strong sphere. Use a Hyper Sphere or better to secure the catch so it does not break free at the last moment.

Tip: For a hands-off option, certain foraging Pals with a salvaging partner skill can pull extra resources, including Dog Coins, from water and coastal junk nodes while you explore shorelines.

How to use Dog Coins at the Medal Merchant

Dog Coins are only accepted by the Medal Merchant, a large NPC in a golden coat that stands out from a distance. This vendor appears at ruined churches and near ancient statues, including the Desolate Church, Marsh Island, Forgotten Island, and Sea Breeze Archipelago. Their exact spawn shifts, but those church ruins are the most dependable places to check.

Walk up to the merchant, open the trade menu, and buy items directly with the coins you are carrying. The purchase confirms when the item lands in your inventory and your Dog Coin balance drops by the listed price. If a purchase does nothing, you are almost always short on coins for that item.

Medal Merchant items and prices

The stock covers permanent player and Pal boosts, rank-up Starfruit, high-tier schematics, and cosmetic hats. Prioritize Elixirs and stat Fruits first, since those give lasting upgrades. Prices can shift between patches, so treat the numbers below as the current 1.0 values.

Note: The Box of Mystery Accessories, a higher-priced accessory-slot upgrade, only becomes available after you already own a base accessory box, so grab the cheaper Mysterious Accessory Box first.

Because Dog Coins come in slowly, plan purchases around what changes your run the most. The permanent Elixirs and Starfruit rank-ups pay off over the entire game, while the Pal hats are mainly cosmetic with a small elemental defense bonus. Keep a flying mount handy, sweep Scrap Piles on your travels, and capture every Mimog you spot, and the balance you need for the Medal Merchant will build up faster than grinding any single method.
