Palworld 1.0: How to Get the Pal Reverser and Swap a Pal’s Gender

Buy it for seven Bounty Tokens, loot it from chests, then use it at a surgery table to flip any party Pal's gender.

Buy it for seven Bounty Tokens, loot it from chests, then use it at a surgery table to flip any party Pal’s gender.

Breeding the exact Pal you want in Palworld 1.0 falls apart fast when the two candidates share a gender. The Pal Reverser fixes that. It is a Legendary consumable that swaps a Pal’s gender from male to female or the other way around, so you no longer have to catch or hatch duplicates just to get a valid breeding pair.

Quick answer: Hunt bounty targets to earn Successful Bounty Tokens, then buy a Pal Reverser from a PIDF Bounty Officer at the Small Settlement for 7 tokens. Use it at a Pal Surgery Table on a Pal that is in your active party.

Every way to get a Pal Reverser

You can buy the Pal Reverser from two different merchants or find it as loot. The most reliable route is the bounty vendor, since it always has stock as long as you have tokens. The table below covers each source and its cost.

SourceCost or condition
PIDF / Vigilante Bounty Officer (Small Settlement, Fisherman’s Point, Dune Shelter)7 Successful Bounty Tokens each
Arena Merchant (island south of the Tower of the PIDF)35 Battle Tickets each
Treasure chests in enemy camps and dungeonsHigher drop chance in volcano and snow camps
Salvage and excavation sitesRoughly a 9% chance from rarer excavations
Fishing in high-level zonesFound inside trash piles pulled from the water

Buy it with Bounty Tokens

The steadiest supply comes from bounty hunting. This is the method most players will use once they need multiple reversers.

Speak to the PIDF Officer at the Small Settlement near Zoe’s Tower and start accepting bounties. Each region has several wanted targets, and they refresh roughly every 60 minutes of real time.
Track down the wanted fugitives. They stand out with large red health bars and purple auras. Talk to Intel Dealers in settlements if you want the locations of targets you haven’t found yet.
Defeat each target to collect a Successful Bounty Token. Return to a Bounty Officer and trade 7 tokens for one Pal Reverser. Farm several targets in a loop if you need more than one.

Note: The Pal Reverser weighs nothing and cannot be sold, so there is no downside to stockpiling a few before you set up your breeding runs.

Buy it with Battle Tickets at the Arena

If you prefer combat challenges over open-world hunting, the Arena Merchant sells the Pal Reverser for 35 Battle Tickets. You earn those tickets by clearing Solo Challenges in the Arena, where beating NPC Pal teams pays out several tickets per run.

The Arena sits on a small island at coordinates (628, 15), just south of the Tower of the PIDF. A flying or swimming mount makes the trip much easier, and there is a fast travel point on the island so future visits are quick.

Unlock the Pal Surgery Table before you use it

A Pal Reverser does nothing on its own. It only works at the Pal Surgery Table, a workstation you unlock through the Technology Tree at Level 38. Once it is available, build one at your base with the following materials.

MaterialAmount
Refined Ingot (Ore + Coal at an Improved Furnace)30
High Quality Cloth (Wool + Leather at a High-Quality Workbench)20
Corrosive Solvent (Venom Gland + Sulfur at a Production Assembly Line)10

How to swap a Pal’s gender

With the table built and at least one reverser in your bag, the swap takes a few clicks. The key requirement is that the target Pal must be in your active party, not sitting in the Palbox or working at your base.

Add the Pal you want to change into your active party. Pals stored in the Palbox are not eligible for surgery.
Interact with the Pal Surgery Table to open the operating screen, then select the Pal you want to modify.

Choose the Change Gender tab at the top of the menu. A preview shows the Pal’s current gender and the gender it will become.
Click Edit to confirm. One Pal Reverser is consumed from your inventory and the Pal’s gender flips immediately.

You will know it worked when the Pal’s gender icon updates on the spot. The change is permanent for that Pal, but it is fully reversible. Use another Pal Reverser at the table if you ever want to switch it back. If the option is greyed out, the Pal is almost always still in the Palbox rather than your party, which is the most common reason the swap fails.
