The Firstlight War Fans are the V3 form of the demon-side fan weapon, and getting them takes two separate jobs. One is a long NPC trail that ends with a shovel and a mound of snow in Iceveil Valley. The other is grinding Firstlight material from bosses and dungeon chests. Neither substitutes for the other, and the blacksmith will not show the upgrade until you have both.
Quick answer: Finish the Lucy, Shiro, and Shiori quest chain, buy the 5,000 Wen shovel from Winter Store Rep Lynx, then dig the Snow Mound past the last houses in Iceveil Valley.
Firstlight War Fans V3 requirements
V3 is an upgrade applied on top of a finished V2 weapon, so the War Fans V2 has to exist in your inventory first. That craft happens at the Nutrient Forge inside the dungeon area and eats 90,000 Dungeon Points, 500 Metal Scraps, Silk Thread, and 10 Mythic Refinement Ore. Dungeon access opens at roughly Level 65 after Blacksmith Togane’s forge quest in the Hidden Mist Village.
Once the V2 fans are built, the V3 recipe unlocks at the Blacksmith back in the main world with the following general cost.

A recent patch cut upgrade costs, which makes every Firstlight drop you bank worth more than it used to be. Before you start the schematic trail, bring enough Wen for the shovel, the trapper’s bribe, and a large elixir order, and keep spare gear you are willing to sell.
Firstlight War Fans schematic location: the Iceveil Valley snow mound
Unlike the katana and spear schematics, this one is not sitting in a cave waiting to be looted. It is buried, and the only way to learn where is to work through a chain of NPCs who each hand over one piece of a rumor about a woman who passed through the region. You only need to do the whole thing once.
Open the map and travel to Windy Peak, then interact with the purple crystal shrine in town to set your spawn point there. You will be bouncing between Windy Peak, Bamboo Grove, and Iceveil Valley repeatedly, so this saves a lot of riding.
Return to Lucy and hand in the raw meat. Each turn-in pays out three Cooked Bear Meat, and you need nine total, so run the loop three times before moving on.
Head north out of Windy Peak through the canyon into the blizzard of Iceveil Valley and find Iceveil Guard Shiro near the torii gate. His settlement supply quest wants the cooked bear meat along with health elixirs.
Farm Demon Horns from the demon caves near Bamboo Grove, then fast travel to the Mistfall Harbor Shrine and buy health elixirs from Alchemist Meku using Wen and horns. Deliver them to Shiro to close out his quest.
While you are in Iceveil Valley, step into the winter store and buy the shovel from Winter Store Rep Lynx for 5,000 Wen. You cannot dig anything up later without it.
Stocking the Butterfly Estate infirmary for Shiori
Fast travel to the Butterfly Estate and speak with Shiori. She asks for a supply run covering health elixirs, health regen elixirs, and stamina regen elixirs.
Go back to Alchemist Meku on the Mistfall Harbor docks and buy 10 Stamina Regen Elixirs and 10 Health Regen Elixirs, paying with Demon Horns and cash. Top up any health elixirs you are still short on.
Return to the Butterfly Estate and interact with the Infirmary Crates to deposit everything. Talk to Shiori afterward and she mentions an injured woman who was heading toward the harbor.
Buy the elixirs in one trip. Meku is the single vendor for all three types, and splitting the order into two visits just adds another ride across the map.
Ride down to the Mistfall Harbor docks and speak with Dock Master Sofen at the pier. He will not let you search the waterfront without a fishing permit.
If you cannot cover the permit, visit Merchant Ginzo and sell off gear and accessories you no longer use. Selling also returns Metal Scraps and Silk Thread, both of which the weapon recipes consume.
Pay Sofen, then dive into the harbor water and recover the submerged Permit Stamp. Turning it in reveals that the woman travelled north toward Iceveil.
Head back through Bamboo Grove and up the mountain trail to Iceveil Valley. Find Old Trapper Retsu beside the village torii gate, pay him 2,500 Wen, and keep talking until his dialogue runs out.
Leave the last houses behind and enter the snowy expanse, where a solitary Snow Mound awaits. Dig there with the shovel to reveal the Snow Chest and receive the Mythic Firstlight War Fans Schematic along with extra materials.
How to farm Firstlight material fast
Chests and bosses never drop schematics, and schematic locations never drop Firstlight material. The material itself comes from exactly three rolls, two of which are attached to the same boss kill.

Spawns when a world boss dies
The dungeon chest has the best rate per attempt. The boss circuit wins on time, because one kill gives you two independent rolls without any travel between them. Most players run both in a session. 2x and 4x Luck raise Firstlight drop rates from world bosses and dungeon chests alike, and the in-game shop sells 2x Luck in 15 and 30 minute blocks.
For speed, demons want Sickles with Blood Manipulation or Akaza, while Slayers do well with Water Breathing or Serpent Breathing. Take a mobility skill either way, since several bosses sit on cliffs or in water.
Focus on Yahari, the Arrow boss, before anything else. Trigger your highest-damage combo at once, then drain the entire health bar before Yahari moves elsewhere.
Open the World Events Chest that spawns on the kill. Its 3% roll is separate from the boss drop, so never teleport away before looting it.

Pull up the map, check which boss icons have respawned, and restart at the earliest one. Susamaru and Yahaba fit into the same loop when they are up, and Serpent King Obari, Thunder King Zentaro, Nezura Kamado, Enmu, and Akaza can extend it.
Demon spawns vary with daylight, and an outdoor lap may be interrupted before completion. If that occurs, enter the cave behind the waterfall, defeat Daki and Gyutai, and return to the surface route after night comes back. A private server prevents other players from taking the bosses, making it more valuable here than simply having higher damage in a busy public server.
Near Mistfall Harbor and the Forgotten Ruins, cross the bridge and use the teleport portal. After Rengoku, follow the road through the torii gates until you arrive at the Ouwigahara queue area.
Start a run and push as deep as you can. Take permanent damage cards, point multipliers, and max health cards, and turn down punishing modifiers like Grounded or No Guard so the run does not die early.
At the run’s conclusion, spend 30,000 points on the chest. Every purchase grants a 5% roll, meaning farther floors provide more chances to open it. Changer Zeni also offers Mythic Refinement Ore for that same cost, so choose before starting whether your points are reserved for drops or ore.
Every match wipes your dungeon point balance. Anything you do not spend before the run ends is gone for good, so open chests while a Luck boost is still active rather than banking points across runs.
How to confirm the schematic landed and finish the V3 upgrade
Opening a chest or defeating a boss puts Firstlight material into your inventory immediately alongside your other crafting supplies. The schematic is an exception: once the Snow Chest has been dug up, open the inventory menu’s Schematics tab instead of the weapons list, because it is recorded as a crafting document rather than equipment.
With the schematic registered and enough Firstlight material banked, take the War Fans V2 to the Blacksmith. The V3 recipe appears next to the existing V2 entry, and the swap materials menu there can convert spare ores and platings into ingredients you are still missing. Since the cost reduction, one boosted dungeon run plus a full boss lap is usually enough to close out a weapon that used to take several sessions.
