Purgatorio Augments Guide: Every Upgrade Tier and Effect

A complete breakdown of every basic, advanced, and legendary augment in Purgatorio, with requirements and mutually exclusive picks.

A complete breakdown of every basic, advanced, and legendary augment in Purgatorio, with requirements and mutually exclusive picks.

Augments in Purgatorio are the run-defining upgrades you pick between waves, and each one builds off a small set of core stats. Every augment sits in one of three tiers, and the stronger tiers only appear once you own the specific augments they depend on. Knowing the full tree lets you plan a build instead of taking whatever shows up.

Quick answer: All augments start from five basics (Vitality, Power, Agility, Range, Force). Advanced augments need one matching basic, and legendary augments need a basic plus its advanced (or two specific basics). Some legendaries are mutually exclusive, so you can only keep one from each locked pair.

How augment tiers and requirements work

Augments come in Basic, Advanced, and Legendary tiers. Basics are the entry point and can be taken freely. Advanced augments list a required basic, and legendary augments list either a basic and its advanced or two basics together. If you do not already own the listed requirement, that higher-tier augment will not appear as an option.

A few legendary augments carry an “exclusive” tag. When two augments are marked exclusive to each other, taking one removes the other from your run. That matters most for special-slot picks and for your slam and dash upgrades, where you have to commit to a single path.

The five basic augments

These are the foundation of every build. Almost every advanced and legendary augment traces back to one or two of them, so your early basic picks decide which trees stay open later.

AugmentEffect
VitalityGain 25 health.
PowerIncrease base damage by 3.
AgilityFaster movement speed.
RangeMore range on your melee attacks.
ForceKnockback non-attacking enemies more.

Survival and healing augments

These upgrades all grow out of Vitality, either raising your health pool or giving you recovery and shields. Since health is a limited resource across a run, stacking this tree keeps you alive through longer fights.

Health PackAdvancedVitalityGain another 25 health.
Second WindLegendaryVitality, SurvivorThe first time you face death, gain a shield for 6s and heal 10 health.

Damage augments

Most raw damage comes from the Power tree, with two legendaries that branch off through Agility and Vitality. Giantslayer punishes high-health targets, while Assassin and Momentum reward positioning and clean dodging.

Melee reach, lunge, and AOE augments

The Range tree splits into two very different playstyles. One path enlarges your sword and adds sweeping area attacks, while the other turns your lunge into a fast, long-distance gap closer. Note that Greatsword and Dismantle cannot both be taken, since they are exclusive.

AugmentTierRequirementsEffect
GreatswordAdvancedRangeYour sword becomes larger and melee range increases. Exclusive with Dismantle.
MaestroAdvancedRangeYour lunge deals more damage, gains range, and has a lower cooldown.
CycloneLegendaryRange, GreatswordEvery 3rd melee attack is replaced by a circular AOE slash.
ReaperLegendaryRange, MaestroYour lunge deals 3 more damage with extended range, and a red trail emits from your eyes.
DismantleLegendaryRange, ForceYour melee attacks unleash long-range slashes but deal 2 less damage. Exclusive with Greatsword.

Slam and crowd control augments

Force feeds every crowd-control option. Shatter improves your slam and then opens two legendary endpoints, Blackhole and Cataclysm, which are exclusive to each other. Brute Force leads to Domino for chained knockback damage.

AugmentTierRequirementsEffect
ShatterAdvancedForceYour slam deals more damage, gains range, and has a lower cooldown.

Dash and dodge augments

Agility improves your dash directly. Fleetfoot is the shared advanced step, and it splits into two exclusive legendaries: Shadowstep for near-constant mobility, or Perfect Dodge for a defensive shield on well-timed dodges. Fleetfoot itself is also exclusive with Speedster.

AugmentTierRequirementsEffect
FleetfootAdvancedAgilityYour dash goes farther and has a shorter cooldown. Exclusive with Speedster.
ShadowstepLegendaryAgility, FleetfootYour dash is nearly instant with a lower cooldown. Exclusive with Perfect Dodge.
Perfect DodgeLegendaryAgility, FleetfootDodging an attack with the first half of your dash grants a shield for 3s. Disabled while a shield is already active. Exclusive with Shadowstep.

Special slot augments: Parry vs War Cry

Two legendaries in the Power tree take over your special slot, and they are exclusive to each other, so you can run only one. Parry is a defensive tool that deflects incoming damage, confirmed on screen by a “PARRIED” indicator. War Cry is an aggressive burst that doubles your damage for 3 seconds before locking you in a stun.

AugmentRequirementsEffect
ParryPower, RiposteUses your special slot. Parrying attacks deflects the damage. Exclusive with War Cry.
War CryPower, AdrenalineUses your special slot. Gain double damage for 3 seconds, then become stunned from exhaustion. Exclusive with Parry.

Exclusive augment pairs to plan around

Before you commit to a tree, keep these locked pairs in mind. Choosing one option in a pair removes the other for the rest of the run, so decide early whether you want the offensive or defensive branch.

Pick oneOr the other
GreatswordDismantle
BlackholeCataclysm
ParryWar Cry
ShadowstepPerfect Dodge
FleetfootSpeedster
MomentumSpeedster

You can confirm an augment is active in play by its on-screen cues. Assassin shows a slash effect on back hits, Reaper adds a red trail from your eyes, Perfect Dodge displays a “SHIELDED” status, and Parry flashes “PARRIED” when it deflects an attack. If those cues do not appear, check that you have met the listed requirements and did not lose the pick to an exclusive choice earlier in the run.
