Ride a Pet: How to Get the Griffin Pet From the Volcanic Egg

In Ride a Pet, no flying mount is faster than the Griffin. Its sole source is the Volcanic Egg, hidden far inside the volcano. Getting one means meeting a tough prerequisite, escaping the lava chamber before the timer expires, and building enough luck to hatch a Griffin.

Quick answer: Take a Phoenix to Volcano Island and fly into the volcano. Collect the Volcanic Egg (2.5T Hatch Luck) at the Dragon’s Lair, then bring it back to your Ranch before both 20-second timers expire and hatch it.

The Volcanic Egg is the only source of the Griffin

The Griffin comes only from the Volcanic Egg, an Ethereal-rarity egg introduced in Update 2: The Volcanic Update. With 2.5T Hatch Luck, it is the highest-luck egg in the current meta and harder to find than the Cherub Egg. Unlike other rare eggs that appear in scattered locations, it has one dedicated spawn spot.

The Eternal Radar does not detect the Volcanic Egg. It only tracks the Cherub Egg, the Solaris Egg, and the Black Hole Egg, so you cannot rely on it for this hunt.

What you need before the run

You can’t reach the Volcanic Egg by simply walking there; access requires a particular pet and a sufficient Hatch Luck total.

A Phoenix, which is required to enter the volcano and escape with the egg.
A fast flying mount for reaching Volcano Island and retracing your route out.
Ranch Hatch Luck high enough to meet the Volcanic Egg’s hatch requirement.

Your final Hatch Luck is Ranch Hatch Luck multiplied by Egg Hatch Luck. The Volcanic Egg’s 2.5T base contributes a lot on its own, but you can push Ranch Hatch Luck higher at the upgrade board on your plot. Rebirthing clears Hatch Luck, so finish your Griffin attempts before you reset progress.

Confirm the egg is on the map first

The Volcanic Egg is not always available. When it spawns, the game posts an on-screen announcement, just like the Solaris, Black Hole, and Cherub Eggs. You can also talk to the Tracker NPC to check whether the egg is currently in your server before you commit to the trip.

Reaching the Dragon’s Lair inside the volcano

Head out from the Desert biome and fly across the water toward Volcano Island. The smoking volcano is the tall landmark you are aiming for.

Fly up the right-hand side of the volcano and look for a small, square cave opening cut into the upper slope near the peak. Go straight in through it.

Descend the deep vertical shaft, following the tunnels lit by torches and crystals. Pick one of the downward routes and remember it, because you will retrace this exact path on the way out.

Take the lower path, turn left, and fly forward into the magma chamber. The Volcanic Egg sits on the central altar platform, right next to the sleeping Dragon.

Get the egg home before it cracks

Taking the egg is only part of the challenge: it triggers a timed escape. If either countdown runs out, the egg breaks and the attempt is wasted.

Take the Volcanic Egg off its platform to trigger a 20-second countdown to get out of the volcano.

Fly back up through the same tunnels you memorized, dodging the Dragon’s fireballs as you climb toward the entrance.

The moment you exit the volcano, a second 20-second countdown begins. Fly straight back to your Ranch before it runs out, or the egg cracks and the attempt is lost.

Hatching the Griffin and confirming it worked

At your Ranch, hatch the Volcanic Egg after your Hatch Luck reaches the required threshold. Meeting the minimum doesn’t ensure a Griffin on your first try, so save several eggs and hatch with maximum luck instead of opening one as soon as you qualify.

A successful hatch is confirmed when the Griffin is listed as a hatched pet and appears in your Index. Until that happens, repeat the volcano route and accumulate eggs.

The payoff for getting the Griffin is its status as the fastest flying mount in the game. Its speed shortens trips between distant spawn points and makes hard-to-reach egg locations much quicker to visit. That advantage makes every later rare-egg hunt easier than the volcano grind required to earn it.
