Steal an Egg: How to Sell Brainrots for In-Game Cash

In Steal an Egg, the pets that players nickname “brainrots” sit in your pen and earn passive cash every second. When you want to clear space or turn an unwanted pet into money, you sell it at a dedicated stand. The one rule that trips people up is simple. A pet has to be unequipped before the game will let you sell it.

Quick answer: Open the pet menu with the paw icon, tap UNEQUIP on the pet you want gone, walk to the SELL stand next to the Fuse Machine, and click Yes! on the confirmation prompt to receive the cash.

What selling a brainrot actually does

Each pet in your pen generates income per second while it is active. A Catfish produces $24/s, a Camel makes $71/s, and higher-tier pets like a Tiger run to $87K/s. Selling removes that pet from your collection permanently and pays you a one-time cash amount in return. It is the fastest way to make room for stronger pets that earn more.

Note: The sale price is fixed by the game, not negotiated. A Catfish, for example, sells for 2K regardless of how long you held it.

Sell a brainrot: the exact steps

Click the paw icon on the right side of the screen to open your pet menu, labeled “Growing Eggs.” Scroll through the list until you find the pet you want to sell, such as the Catfish.

Click the red UNEQUIP button next to that pet. This is the required move. A pet still equipped in your pen cannot be sold, so make sure the button switches to EQUIP before continuing.

Walk over to the SELL stand, which sits right next to the Fuse Machine in the main area. Stand close enough for the game to detect you.

A prompt appears asking, “Would you like to sell pet Catfish for 2K?” Click Yes! to finish the sale. Your cash balance updates immediately, which confirms the trade went through.

Fix “No item equipped” and “Get closer to your Pen” errors

Two warnings show up most often when a sale fails. Both point to the same root cause and are quick to fix.

Claim free cash from the Pet Index

Before you sell off your weaker pets, grab the rewards tied to your collection. Open the Index button from the left sidebar to see the Pet Index, then use Claim All to collect any pending rewards. These payouts, such as +420 and $100 cash, add up and give you a buffer while you upgrade your pen.

Restock your pen by stealing eggs

Selling only pays off if you keep bringing in better pets to replace the ones you cash out. New eggs come from the zones around the map, which run through Forest, Lake, Desert, and Jungle. Each egg is guarded by an NPC animal, so grabbing one starts a chase.

Fly out to a zone and find a guarded egg, such as the black egg watched over by a tiger in the Jungle.

Take the egg. The screen flashes “You stole an EGG!” and a “RUN!!” prompt appears, meaning you now have to carry it back without getting caught.

Race back to your pen while dodging obstacles and hazards. Place the egg in your pen to hatch it, which gives you a new pet such as a Tiger. Equip the new pet, and any pet it replaces becomes a candidate for your next sale.

With the sell loop understood, the routine becomes steady. Hatch stronger pets, keep your best ones equipped, and sell the low earners at the stand next to the Fuse Machine so your cash and your pen keep climbing together.
