Wisp Treasure Hunt: East Road is one of the short optional treasure runs scattered around Vale Sangora in The Blood of Dawnwalker. It has no quest giver and no dialogue. Coen simply walks near a cluster of glowing red will-o’-the-wisps, the objective appears on screen, and the wisps become the only navigation you get.

Quick answer: Fast travel to the Maroger Wealds shrine, head east until red wisps spawn, follow them through the woods, kill the two bandits blocking the trail, then continue to the narrow rocky cleft and loot the chest at the end to finish the quest.

Where the East Road wisp trail starts

The trail begins just east of the Maroger Wealds fast travel shrine, so that shrine is the cheapest way in. Open the map, set your marker on Maroger Wealds, travel there, and then walk east along the road until the first wisps appear ahead of you.

The wisps are bright red and float at roughly chest height, which makes them far easier to pick out after dark than in daylight. Nothing triggers until you get close to them. Once you do, the objective “Search for the wisp treasure” appears with a 1 / 2 counter, confirming the quest is live.

Following the wisps through the forest

Move to the first cluster of wisps on the road. They will drift a short distance ahead and then hold position, waiting for you to catch up. Treat each cluster as a checkpoint rather than a continuous line.
Follow them off the road and into the forested path. The route winds between trees and undergrowth, and the wisps do not wait forever in view, so keep them on screen instead of stopping to gather every herb you pass.
Pick up anything convenient along the way. Common plants sit right on the path here, including Comfrey, Parasol Mushroom, Saffron Milk Cap, Yellow Sweet Clover and Ribwort Plantain, all of which feed into crafting later.

Bandit fight on the trail

Two bandits guard the middle stretch of the route and they will notice Coen as he follows the wisps. There is no boss here and no scripted phase, just a standard two-on-one fight on uneven rocky ground where positioning matters more than raw damage.

Fight them near a rock or tree so only one can close on you at a time. Block and parry the ordinary swings to conserve stamina, and dodge anything telegraphed in red, since those attacks cannot be blocked.

Once both are down, loot the bodies before moving on. The bandits carry a mix of currency and gear, and the pickups here are worth the few seconds.

Finding the East Road treasure chest

After the fight, the remaining wisps are already waiting a short distance ahead. Follow them into a narrow rocky pass, tight enough that there is only one way through, which removes any guesswork about the final approach.

The chest sits at the far end of the cleft. Interact with it and the quest resolves the moment the container opens, so there is no return trip and no NPC to report back to.

Note: opening a wisp treasure chest consumes an hour of in-game time. That matters in The Blood of Dawnwalker, where the main objective to rescue Coen’s family runs on a countdown of days, so budget the detour rather than treating it as free.

How to confirm the quest completed

Two things tell you it worked. The “Search for the wisp treasure” objective clears from the tracker once the chest is looted, and the tracker falls back to whatever you were following before, such as the main countdown or a lead like meeting Anica at the old inn.

If the objective never appeared in the first place, the usual cause is distance. The wisps only register Coen when he walks right up to them, so approach the cluster directly instead of passing by on the road. If the wisps stop moving mid-route, an enemy is still alive nearby, and they resume once the area is clear.

Because chest contents and the hour it costs are both visible before you commit, some players open the chest, inspect the haul, and reload an earlier save if the reward is not worth the lost time. That is entirely optional, but it is the only way to preview a wisp treasure without paying for it on the clock.
