The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Fix a Missing UI on PC and Console

A blank screen with no health bar, no compass, and no quest tracker in The Blood of Dawnwalker is almost never a bug. The game ships with a UI visibility toggle meant for screenshots and clean footage, and it is easy to trip by accident. The control that hides everything is the same one that brings it all back.

Quick answer: Open the pause menu and press and hold the Toggle UI Visibility button shown in the bottom-left corner — the U key on PC — until the HUD reappears, then resume the game.

Why the UI disappears in The Blood of Dawnwalker

The HUD can be switched off at any moment during play, and the game gives no warning or confirmation when it happens. Everything vanishes at once — the quest tracker in the upper right, the compass, the day counter tied to the “Rescue your family” timer, and the interaction prompts such as Pick Up Green-Gilled Mushroom. The world itself keeps running normally, which is exactly why people assume the game has broken.

The toggle is a hold-to-activate control rather than a tap, so a quick press does nothing. That is also why some players get stuck: they press the button once, see no change, and conclude the option is broken.

Restore the HUD with Toggle UI Visibility

Press the pause or Start button to open the main pause menu. This screen still works normally even with the HUD hidden, and it lists Quicksave, Resume, Save Game, Load Game, Settings, Return to Main Menu, and Quit Game.
Look at the bottom-left corner of the pause screen. The prompt reads U TOGGLE UI VISIBILITY on PC. On console, the same slot shows the matching controller button instead of a keyboard key.
Press and hold that button. Keep it held rather than tapping it — the interface snaps back on once the hold registers.
Select Resume and return to gameplay. The quest tracker, compass, and any active objective text should now be drawn on screen again.

Confirm the UI is back

Two checks settle it quickly. Run through an area with a tracked objective and watch the upper-right corner for the active quest name and its step, such as “Meet with Anica at the old inn”. Then open the map. If the map draws with its TOGGLE FILTERS and TOGGLE LEGEND prompts, and the tab row across the top shows Character, Active Abilities, Inventory, Crafting, Journal, Map, Court, and Glossary, the interface is fully restored.

Note: the prompt is context-sensitive, so the icon you see on a controller will match your pad’s button labels rather than the keyboard key. Native DualSense and DualShock 4 support arrived in version 1.0.3, so PlayStation pads on PC show their own prompts.

When the fix does not work

If the HUD still refuses to come back, the cause is usually one of a small number of things rather than a corrupted save.

  • The button was tapped instead of held. Hold it down until the interface visibly returns.
  • You are looking at the wrong screen. The prompt sits on the main pause menu, not inside Settings or the map.
  • The U key has been remapped. Trust the prompt in the corner over the default key, since the game shows whatever binding is currently active.
  • The elements are there but hard to read. UI text and subtitles are small and there is no scaling option, which can read as missing interface on a large or distant display.

Because the toggle is a deliberate feature, no patch is needed to get the interface back and no save file is at risk. Once you know the prompt lives in the bottom-left of the pause menu, a hidden HUD becomes a five-second correction rather than a reason to reload.
