The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Go Back to Pieter and Wait for Mass

The exact route home, the dialogue line that skips the clock, and what you give up by using it.

Once Coen finishes sparring with his father, the prologue hands you a clock instead of a corridor. The quest Sacred Covenant opens with a split objective, and one half of it — going back to Pieter to wait till the Mass — is the game’s fast-forward button straight to the Blood Mass in Laslea Glen.

Quick answer: Walk to Coen’s house in Laslea Glen, find Pieter standing by the fireplace in the main room, talk to him, and pick “I’ll wait with you until Mass.” Time jumps forward and the quest updates to sitting in the pew next to Pieter and Esme.

What waiting with Pieter costs you on the clock

Sacred Covenant begins automatically after Like Father, Like Son, and its first objective is written as a choice: pass time until sunset by doing other quests, or go back to Pieter to wait till the Mass. Both routes end at the same church ceremony. The difference is how many of the day’s eight time segments you burn getting there.

There are two moments where the wait can be triggered. The first is in the dialogue that closes out the sparring session, and the second is any time afterwards by walking home and speaking to Pieter directly.

“See you then”End of the fight with PieterConsumes one time segment and leaves the rest of the day free

Note: the main story runs on a 30-day limit, so segments spent on nothing are segments you cannot get back. Waiting is the deliberate choice to stop earning XP, loot, and quest outcomes for the day.

How to return to Pieter and trigger the wait

Open the map and find Coen’s house in Laslea Glen. The house sits in the village itself, and marking it gives you a waypoint to follow instead of hunting for the right path in the evening light.

Follow the village path back to the house. Nothing along this route consumes time on its own, so you can run straight there without worrying about the clock.

Approach Pieter, who is standing by the fireplace, and start the conversation. Ask him what to do now to open the relevant dialogue branch.

Select “I’ll wait with you until Mass.” This is the line that commits Coen to staying home, and it is the only response in the branch that advances the quest timeline.

How to confirm the wait worked

Time skips forward as soon as the line is chosen, and the objective “Pass time until sunset / Go back to Pieter to wait till the Mass” clears from the tracker. Sacred Covenant then moves to its final objective, sitting in the pew next to Pieter and Esme, with an optional step to talk with the other villagers first.

Inside the church you can speak with Vasil at the front, the brothers Gavril and Lazar at the back, and Anca and Vladimir in the third row. Sitting down with your family starts the cutscene, and the quest wraps up three time segments into the night for 250 XP.

Why the option may not show up

Only two things stop the wait from being available, and both come down to where you are in the prologue.

  • Like Father, Like Son has not been completed. Sacred Covenant only opens after the sparring session with Pieter finishes, so the objective does not exist yet.
  • You have already used all eight time segments. When the day runs out, Sacred Covenant starts on its own with the Blood Mass and there is nothing left to skip.

What to settle before you skip to the Mass

The ceremony is not just a cutscene. Several things you did earlier in the day are read back to you inside the church, and once you commit to waiting there is no way to go back and fix them.

Loose endWhy it matters at the Mass
Esme’s medicinePrepared with hot water and three spoonfuls of herbs, she survives Brencis noticing her. A wrong dose can get her killed.
BlasphemyRecover Gremla’s banner and it hangs above the altar. Fail, and Gremla’s body is hung there instead.
Deep DownFinding Lazar keeps him alive, and he appears among the villagers during the ceremony.

Waiting with Pieter is worth using once those are handled, or when you simply want the prologue to move. If you still have segments left and unfinished business in Laslea Glen, spend them first — the option to head home and sit by the fire with your father stays open until the sun goes down.
