Vale Sangora is full of loose clutter, and almost none of it is yours. Bowls, spoons, berries, and the occasional lump of silver sit on tables and stools in every settlement, and Coen can pocket all of it. The catch is that the game tracks ownership and witnesses, so taking the wrong item at the wrong moment turns a free spoon into a Guard chase and lost days off your 30-day clock.
Quick answer: Hold Focus Mode (right click on PC) to highlight lootable objects, crouch, wait until nobody is facing you so the loot prompt reads in white instead of red, then press F to take the item.
Red text vs. white text: what counts as stealing
Mechanically, stealing is identical to picking anything else up. The only difference is the color of the interaction prompt. If an item belongs to someone else and a witness can see you take it, the prompt is displayed in red text. If nothing is watching, the same prompt appears in white, and the item goes into your bag with no consequences.
That gives you two ways to flip red to white. Wait until every nearby villager turns away or wanders off, or remove the witnesses entirely by killing them. The prompt color is the whole system in a nutshell, so treat it as the go/no-go signal before every grab.

A quiet village is the easiest place to learn the rhythm. Laslea Glen works well early on, since the houses are small, the sight lines are short, and most of what sits around is low-value junk that nobody will miss.

F to steal. Small items such as an Odd Rock or a Broken Spoon go straight into your inventory.

How to know the theft went through cleanly
Three signals confirm a clean job. The prompt was white when you pressed the button, the item shows up in your inventory, and nobody around you reacts. If villagers start shouting about the theft, the crime has already been registered, and a Guard within earshot will act on it.
Note: Guards react to what they hear as well as what they see. Even if the Guard was around a corner when you looted the sack, a villager’s reaction is enough to send him running at you.

What happens if a Guard catches you stealing
A Guard who spots the crime sprints straight at you. Running and hiding can still work, but the higher your Infamy, the harder it becomes to shake pursuit. If he reaches you, the game hands you a short set of choices instead of an automatic arrest.
| Option | What it costs you |
|---|---|
| Serve time in jail | A number of days scaled to the crime, taken out of your 30-day limit, plus an Infamy increase. |
| Bribe the Guard | A set amount of Denarii. All charges are dropped and you walk free. |
| Fight the Guard | Only offered in some locations. Raises Infamy, and the fallout is worse while Edicts are active. |
Jail is the expensive option in the only currency that matters here. Every day behind bars is a day gone from the countdown to save your family, so keep enough coin on hand to buy your way out. If your purse is empty when the Guard stops you, a day or two in a cell may be the only choice left.
What stolen goods are actually worth
Most household clutter is filler, but silver is the exception. Silver bowls, crosses, chalices, jewelry, dining utensils, and raw ore all sell for serious money, and they are often sitting in plain view on shelves and tables waiting for a moment when nobody is looking.
Selling silver is banned under the vampire lords, so ordinary merchants will not touch it. The buyer is in Svartrau City, in the southwestern part of the settlement along the path leading to Neustadt, in a building just past a pair of guards. Leveling the Bewitching Influence perk in the Witchcraft tree to rank 2 raises all selling prices by 15 percent, which is worth doing before you offload a full bag.
Once the color check becomes second nature, theft turns into a steady income stream rather than a gamble. Crouch, sweep the room in Focus Mode, take only what shows in white, and the only thing you will lose is a villager’s patience.
