Lacra is a vrakhir who arrives in Vale Sangora with her own reason for wanting Brencis dead, and her six-quest arc is one of the longest companion chains in The Blood of Dawnwalker. It starts with a rooftop investigation in Svartrau City and ends underground, in a throne room, against Brencis himself. Nearly every step is locked to nighttime, because Lacra only operates after dark and several objectives need vampire traversal skills.
Quick answer: Travel at night to the inner walls northeast of the Svartrau City capital to trigger “A Friend Like This,” then use Focus Mode on the signs of struggle and Shadowstep onto the damaged roof tiles to reach Lacra’s hideout. Beat her in the boss fight, spare the uriashi prisoner, and her remaining five quests unlock in sequence.
Requirements before Lacra’s questline will start
Lacra is not visible on your map from the beginning. Coen has to learn she exists first, and there are three separate triggers that do that. Once any one of them fires, “A Friend Like This” appears in your journal.

| Trigger | What you do |
|---|---|
| Reach the area | Travel to the inner walls northeast of Svartrau City capital. The quest fires on arrival. |
| Vicho’s quest chain | Complete “A Study in Crimson” with the vrakhir Vicho. He mentions another vampire prowling the capital. |
| Vampire Court loot | Defeat Ambrus and loot his body for a note naming Lacra. Court quests for other boyars can also yield a letter revealing her location. |
Two abilities are mandatory. Focus Mode is needed to spot the blood spatter, wrecked barrels, and fallen tiles at street level. Shadowstep (Planeshift) is needed to reach the rooftops, which means the trail can only be completed at night in vampire form. Attempting the chase during daylight leaves you stuck at the base of the buildings.

Add to Google Preferences →A Friend Like This: Following the trail and sparing the uriashi
Do not ask Lacra to release the prisoner outright. That skips the information Coen needs, and the follow-up quest will not unlock. Sparing him instead leaves Lacra visibly impressed and opens the road to the hidden uriash village to the southwest. You can leave with her immediately or agree to meet there later if you want to restock first.
Song of the Mountain: Keep the peace with the uriashi
The second quest sends you hunting with Lacra, then up the mountainside to the village. Early on she offers to feed on goats and a shepherd. Joining her or refusing changes nothing about the outcome, so treat it as flavor.
The critical rule for this quest is simple. Do not fight the uriashi. Playing it peacefully is what convinces the village chief to help you, and violence closes that door. When you are told to disarm, agree with “All right, fine.” The uriashi will not attack an unarmed visitor.
During the standoff with the matriarch, de-escalate every time the wheel appears. The lines that keep the peace are “Lacra, calm down,” “Nobody needs to die!”, “We’ve wasted enough time!”, “What do you mean?” and “What more proof do you need?” Then keep choosing the “do nothing” option each time it appears. The stand-off is a test of restraint, and the uriashi only extend trust once you refuse to react. After that, follow the Elder up to the village and finish the conversation to close out the quest.
Hive and Seek: Finding and questioning Isbrand
Meet Lacra when you are ready and follow her into the cave where Isbrand is hiding. The objective splits into locating him, questioning him, and then a longer conversation once he talks.
None of the dialogue here is load-bearing for the relationship, so you can answer freely. If you want to keep building goodwill anyway, the flattering options work well, including “Now you’re just showing off” and “Quite so.” You also decide whether to help the Kobolds, which does not affect Lacra. At the end you can choose whether to let Isbrand in. Letting him in is the safer pick in case it matters later.

Lacra will not be ready for the next quest immediately. Pass time until she becomes available again.
Our Rotten Roots: The three memories and the path split
Meet Lacra at the fort at night to begin. The quest sends you into Anachora to track down three of Isbrand’s memories in sequence, with heavy fighting between each one.
Partway through you reach a fork. Lacra pushes for the right-hand path, which is the faster route. The stairs on the left are optional and lead to a fragment of her past, but taking them makes her walk off on her own for a while. She rejoins you shortly after, and the detour does not break the relationship as long as you handle the conversation afterward.
If you go left, apologize when she brings it up. Starting from the fork, the safe replies are “I enjoyed it too,” “You’re hiding something,” “Were you in this memory?”, “No, I want to know what’s there,” “I’m sorry for going there,” “I needed to know what you were hiding,” and “I’m still sorry.”
Keep pushing through the ruins until you find and defeat Isbrand. That ends the quest. Afterward, when you are alone with Lacra in the cave, do not walk out straight away. Stay and keep talking to draw out her plans and signal that Coen intends to keep helping her. Then wait again for her to be ready.

The Night of Horrors: The quest that can fail, and the mandrake
This is the decisive quest. Lacra joins you as an ally whether or not you complete it, but the romance only locks in here, and the quest has a hard fail condition attached to the clock.
Refusing the mandrake ends the night without the romance. You will know it worked because the scene plays out in full and Lacra is gone when Coen wakes. At that point you can leave the cave or go back through it for anything you missed.

Midnight Reckoning: The ruins, the trap, and Brencis
The final quest in the chain begins when you talk with Lacra and confirm you are ready. It is a long linear descent with almost no dialogue branching, so the route matters more than the choices.

| Order | Objective |
|---|---|
| 1 | Find an entrance to the ruins |
| 2 | Make your way through the ruins |
| 3 | Proceed through the temple, then exit it |
| 4 | Make your way through the dungeon |
| 5 | Head for the throne room |
| 6 | Escape the trap, then return to the throne room |
| 7 | Defeat Brencis |
The throne room objective appears twice because the first approach springs a trap that has to be escaped before you can push back in. Once you are through it a second time, the fight against Brencis closes the questline.
Common reasons the questline stalls
- You are playing during the day. Lacra’s quests only run at night, and the rooftop trail in “A Friend Like This” needs Shadowstep.
- You asked Lacra to free the uriashi. That skips the information required to unlock Song of the Mountain.
- You fought the uriashi on the mountain. Breaking the peace costs you the village chief’s help.
- You killed soldiers during The Night of Horrors. Combat advances the clock and fails the quest outright.
- Lacra has no new dialogue. She needs downtime between quests. Pass time and return to her.
Lacra is the only vrakhir among the three romance options in the game, alongside Anca and Crake, and her arc is tied to one of the endings, which makes the mandrake decision in The Night of Horrors more consequential than a typical companion scene. If you are running her chain purely for the ally, the peaceful route through Song of the Mountain and a clean run to Brencis is enough. If you want the full arc, the night in the cave is the part you cannot skip.
