The Blood of Dawnwalker: All Brencis’s Banner Locations

Every gatehouse in Svartrau City that hides one of the Knyaz’s flags, plus what cutting each one costs you.

Brencis’s Banners are the Knyaz’s flags strung across the entry gates of Svartrau City, and pulling them down is one of the few activities in The Blood of Dawnwalker that deliberately raises your Infamy. There are five of them, each tied to its own short “Banner of Oppression” quest, and each one sits inside a guarded gatehouse you have to climb into. Tear down all five and you get the Capture the Flag trophy.

Quick answer: All five banners are on the walls of Svartrau City at the West Gate, North West Gate, North East Gate, Dragosti Gate, and South Gate. Climb into the gatehouse behind each banner, kill the guards inside, and use the wooden rope contraption to cut the flag loose.

All five Brencis’s Banner locations in Svartrau City

Every banner hangs on the outer face of a gate, which means the flag itself is never the thing you interact with. The rope mechanism is in the room behind it, up on the wall. The banners show up on your map as white flag icons, and they get marked automatically once you walk near them or climb one of Svartrau City’s Towers.

Here is where each one sits and how to get into the room behind it.

GateGetting into the gatehouse
West GateGo through the main entrance and turn right. Jump up to the balcony, then take the room on its right side.
North West GateYou arrive outside the wall with the banner hanging in front of you. Scale the wall on the right, drop down, and take the entrance on the left.
North East GateEnter through the front, turn right, and climb the balcony. Head right from there to reach the ropes.
Dragosti GateWalk in the main entrance and turn right. Past a small group of talking soldiers there is an old structure on the right — climb it, then go right. Rooftops work too.
South GateClimb the wall on the right side, cross the balcony roof, then drop to the ledge on the left. Turn to face the balcony, jump across, and go right.

The four wall gates — West, North West, North East, and South — are connected by the wall walkway, so the cleanest run is to start at the West Gate and follow the ramparts north and east, killing patrols as you go. Dragosti Gate is the odd one out and needs you to drop down and cross the city.

How to cut down a Brencis’s Banner

Approach the gate until the quest appears. The banner’s quest starts on its own with the objective “Get inside the gatehouse,” and a yellow marker points at the rope mechanism.
Climb up. Shadowstep, held on R2 or RT, is the fastest way to get onto the walls and rooftops, which makes night runs far less fiddly than daytime ones. Where a gate is shut, walls and roofs are the only way in anyway.
Clear the gatehouse. Every banner has soldiers stationed in or around it, and stepping onto the wall triggers a red TRESPASSING bar. Expect a fight at each of the five.
Use the wooden contraption. The objective flips to “Pull down the banner,” and interacting with the ropes gives you the “Cut off the Banner” prompt. The quest ends immediately after.

Note: If your reputation has bottomed out, the city gates will be closed to you. That doesn’t block any of the banners, since you’re going over the walls rather than through the doors, but it does mean you can’t simply walk in and turn right.

What each banner costs you in time and Infamy

This is the part worth planning around. Cutting a banner advances the clock by one time segment — Moonrise rolls into Midnight, Midnight into Wee Hours — so doing all five in one sitting burns five segments off a campaign that is already counting down the days until you have to rescue your family.

ResultDetail
Quest reward35 XP per banner
InfamyIncreases with each banner, with the message “Brencis will learn of your deeds”
TimeAdvances by one segment per banner
TrophyCapture the Flag, bronze, 20 Gamerscore, after all five

Since Infamy climbs every time, running all five back to back is the quickest way to push your standing with the Knyaz’s people in one direction. If you want to keep gates open and guards calm, spread them out instead.

Confirming you got all five

Each successful cut throws up a QUEST ENDED banner on screen for the specific gate — “Banner of Oppression: The West Gate,” “Banner of Oppression: Dragosti Gate,” and so on — followed by the XP and Infamy notifications. If you’re unsure which one you missed, check the map for a remaining white flag icon; the completed gates stop showing an active quest.

The Capture the Flag achievement pops the moment the fifth rope is cut, with no need to return to anyone or finish a follow-up objective. If it hasn’t unlocked, the usual cause is a gate you flew past without ever getting the quest to trigger, so walk the full wall circuit once more and watch for a marker you never activated.

Worth doing in a single night run: Shadowstep makes the wall climbs trivial after dark, the ramparts link four of the five gates, and Dragosti Gate is a short detour through the city rather than a separate trip. Just remember that the five time segments you spend are gone for good.
