Live Bait is one of the prologue side quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it plays out entirely in and around the village of Vole Sangora before the open world opens up. It is a quiet, low-stakes errand — walk the kids to the water, set some rods, catch dinner — right up until a soldier shows up and a horned stranger decides how the scene ends. Every prologue side quest disappears once the prologue is over, so this one only exists in a narrow window.
Quick answer: Talk to Yanna, walk Mirto and Lunka toward the stream, tag both siblings during the game of tag, use focus mode at the riverbank to pull four fishing rods out of the bushes, plant all four along the water, then bait the hooks with worms. The confrontation cutscene plays on its own and closes the quest.
Where Live Bait starts and why it is missable
The quest begins in Vole Sangora, where Coen’s sister Yanna is waiting with the two younger siblings, Mirto and Lunka. A short cutscene has Coen agree to walk them down to the stream, and the journal entry appears from there. It sits alongside the prologue main quest Withering Away, so you can pick it up between story beats.
Treat it as time-limited. All ten prologue side quests are locked to the prologue and vanish the moment the story moves on, unlike the open-world quests that stay available indefinitely. If you want Live Bait, do it before you push the prologue main quests to their conclusion.
Note: quests spend time in this game rather than time ticking away in the background. Live Bait is also where the Time Progression tutorial fires for most players, explaining that the clock only advances through your actions and certain dialogue choices.

Add to Google Preferences →Live Bait objectives in order
Six objectives run back to back, and none of them can be skipped or done out of sequence. Here is the full chain as it appears in the journal.
| Journal objective | What it asks for |
|---|---|
| Walk your siblings to the river | Lead Yanna, Mirto, and Lunka along the path out of the village toward the stream. |
| Catch Mirto | Chase Mirto down in the open field and tag him. |
| Catch Lunka | Track Lunka to the wooden shelter and tag her. |
| Look for the fishing rods using focus mode | Scan the bushes at the riverbank and collect the hidden rods. |
| Set up the fishing rods by the river | Place all four rods along the water’s edge. |
| Bait the hooks with worms | Use Bolt Worms on the hooks to trigger the closing cutscene. |
The journal is your safety net if you lose the thread mid-quest. Open it and the active objective is spelled out, along with the tracked marker on the map.

How to catch Mirto and Lunka in the game of tag
The kids get tired on the walk, so Coen turns the trip into a game of tag to keep them moving. That converts the escort into two short chase objectives, and both are pure footwork. There is no timer and no fail state — the siblings simply run until you close the gap.

Find the four fishing rods with focus mode
At the water, Yanna asks Coen to dig out the rods the family keeps hidden. They are not visible in normal view, which is what makes this the one part of Live Bait that stalls people.

The riverbank confrontation with Brencis’s Officer
Once the rods are baited, a hostile officer serving Brencis arrives at the bank and starts pressing Coen for information about his father. There is no fight to win here and no way to talk him down — the scene resolves on its own.
Uriash, a horned beast-man who answers to Brencis, steps in before the officer can hurt anyone. He shows the family unexpected mercy, warns Coen plainly about how dangerous Brencis is, and hands over a charm that keeps the family’s calf quiet. He then forces the officer and his soldiers to clear off, and Coen and Yanna are left to make sense of why a creature on Brencis’s side would bother helping them.

Rewards and how to confirm Live Bait is complete
The quest closes with an experience payout and the charm from Uriash. For most players this is the point where the Levelling Up tutorial appears and Coen reaches Level 2, which hands you a skill point to spend.
You know it worked when the completion notification fires after the soldiers leave and Live Bait drops out of your active quest list in the journal. If the entry is still sitting there with an unticked objective, one of the four rods was left in the bushes or was never placed at the water — head back to the bank, switch on focus mode, and finish the set.
Live Bait is short, but it is doing real setup work. It introduces focus mode as an investigation tool you will lean on constantly, teaches the time system before that clock actually matters, and puts Uriash on the board as someone standing on the wrong side of a line he is not fully comfortable with.
