The Blood of Dawnwalker: How to Get the Medicus II Manual

The Medicus II Manual in The Blood of Dawnwalker is a Master-rarity book that unlocks the Medicus II perk, letting Coen craft several items in a single batch. It is worth clearing up one thing straight away: the manual is not a fixed pickup you can only grab from one chest at Boar’s Back Tower. The reliable ways to get it are a vendor purchase or a quest reward, and the loot inside the Boar’s Back Tower chest is not consistent from one playthrough to the next.

Quick answer: Buy the Medicus II Manual from Vera the Witchcraft Vendor or the Matriarch Witchcraft Vendor, or earn it by finishing the Lost Blood side quest in St. Tyna’s Grove. Do not count on the Boar’s Back Tower chest.

What the Medicus II Manual unlocks

Reading the manual makes the Medicus II node available to buy in the perk tree. It is a Master item that costs 93 to carry, and its own description sums it up as a practical guide to self-care that opens a new perk for purchase. The perk has three levels, each bought with skill points and time at a road shrine.

The Medicus II node needs its parent perk learned first before you can buy it, so having the manual alone is not enough to activate the crafting bonus.

Confirmed ways to get the Medicus II Manual

Two paths are documented as dependable. Pick whichever suits where you are in the game.

Purchase it from Vera the Witchcraft Vendor.
Purchase it from the Matriarch Witchcraft Vendor.
Complete the Lost Blood side quest in St. Tyna’s Grove, which hands over the manual as a reward.

Complete the Lost Blood side quest

Lost Blood is optional and easy to miss, but it also drops a legendary consumable alongside the manual. The whole thing takes three time units plus a mandatory day of waiting.

At St. Tyna’s Grove, find the unmarked spot along the perimeter and enter it; the quest triggers automatically when you do.

Inspect the ruined cart, then follow the blood trail off the road into a dark cave. Buff up before you step inside, because a Murohn enemy ambushes you the moment you cross the threshold.

Defeat the Murohn and search its corpse for a Mysterious Ring, Murohn Blood, and a Phial of Ambrus’s Blood. This legendary consumable makes the Scarlet Shield skill available. Take the letter and read it to progress the quest.

Travel to the Silberstein merchant’s shop in Svarttau City during the day and show him the ring. You learn the monster was his son, and he asks you to return once he reopens.

Wait at least one in-game day, which is 16 time units, then speak with him again. He asks whether you still have the ring. Say you don’t have it to keep the ring, or hand it over so you can buy it back later. Either choice ends the quest and awards the Medicus II Manual.

Rather than skipping time at the merchant, spend that day on other quests or activities so the wait costs you nothing.

Why the Boar’s Back Tower chest is not a guaranteed source

You will see the Medicus II Manual pulled from a white chest on the upper scaffold of Boar’s Back Tower, sitting next to the Beastmaster’s Ring, two Chanterelle, and a Razor Claw Vial. That does happen, but the same chest is also on record as a Medicus I Manual location, and its contents are not the same in every run. Treat this tower as a possible bonus, not a promise, and rely on the vendors or Lost Blood if you specifically want Medicus II.

The tower is still a strong chest worth clearing for the ring and crafting materials, so the route below is useful either way.

Open the map and travel to Boar’s Back Tower in the hilly, forested area northwest of Svarttau City, near Rockfall Pass and Svarttau Forest.

Approach the circular stone base and climb through the arched stone opening on the ground level to reach the hollow interior.

Aim upward at the first wooden platform and use Clawride to launch onto it. Loot the sack there for Lamb, Buttermilk, a Torch, and a Wooden Cross.

Target the red-lit arched openings higher up the shaft and Clawride through them, climbing across the timber framing as you go.

Follow the beams and broken flooring up to the upper doorway and step out onto the exterior wooden scaffold that hugs the tower wall.

Open the white chest at the end of the scaffold. It reliably contains the Razor Claw Vial, Beastmaster’s Ring, and two Chanterelle, and it may also hold a Medicus manual, though which one can vary.

How to confirm you have it

Once you own the manual, it appears in your inventory under Master Character Development with the “Be Your Own Healer, Part 1” text readable inside. Head to a built and unlocked road shrine, and you will find the Medicus II node now available for purchase in the perk tree. Spend the skill point and time there to switch on the batch-crafting bonus.
