Omega-3 is a food material in The Last Caretaker that you cannot loot, fish up, or pull out of a supply crate. It only exists as the output of one machine, which means the entire supply chain comes down to feeding organic matter into a Soilforge and keeping that machine powered and watered.

Quick answer: Unlock the Soilforge at character level 10, place it with a power connection and a Fresh Water supply from a Water Purifier, then load 200g of Bio Organic to receive 100g of Omega-3 from the output chute.

Soilforge recipe requirements for Omega-3

The Soilforge is a Tier 1 semi-cycler that turns organics into food materials. It runs on a fixed ratio, so there is no roll or randomness involved. Every cycle needs all three inputs present at once, and the machine will sit idle if any one of them is missing.

The upgraded Soilforge Prime accepts the same organic input and produces the same material, so an existing Bio Organic stockpile stays useful after you move up a tier.

Where to farm Bio Organic

Bio Organic is a poor-rarity organic material weighing 0.1 kg per unit, and it stacks to 50. Because it is the only ingredient the Soilforge needs, your Omega-3 rate is limited entirely by how quickly you can gather it. Four methods produce it reliably.

SourceNotes
Small water creatures at nightSpawn densely after dark near the surface and shoreline; kill and loot the corpse
Points of interestStatic loot spots scattered across the map, worth marking early
Boat netDeploy the net while sailing to collect organics passively
Combat and general lootingDrops from enemies and turns up during exploration

Night diving is the fastest of the four. The small black creatures that appear underwater after dark go down to a couple of shots, and each corpse can be emptied with the hold-to-loot prompt without surfacing.

Note: Bio Organic is also the fuel ingredient for the Diesel Generator. If you burn it for power, keep the two stockpiles separate or you will starve the Soilforge without noticing.

Unlock the Soilforge at level 10

The Soilforge recipe sits in the skills menu and stays locked until character level 10. There is no earlier workaround, no alternate machine, and no crafting bench that converts organics before that point, so Omega-3 is hard-gated behind that level.

Open the skills menu, find the Soilforge entry, and spend the points to unlock it. Once the recipe is available you can craft the machine and place it anywhere on your base that has room for a power line and a water feed.

Set up power and Fresh Water before the first cycle

The Soilforge draws 5kW from your grid and consumes 1000L of Fresh Water per cycle. Fresh Water is not the same as raw seawater, so you need a Water Purifier feeding the machine. Build and stock the purifier first, because the forge drains water on every run and will stall mid-batch if the supply runs dry.

On the power side, make sure your generation capacity has headroom above the 5kW draw. Solar panels, wind turbines, or a battery buffer all work, and a battery is the safer option if you are also running other machines off the same grid.

Running the conversion

Walk up to the placed Soilforge and use the interact prompt to open its interface. The machine has a separate input inventory, which is where the organics go.

Move your Bio Organic from your inventory into the Soilforge’s input slot. Load at least 200g if you want a full cycle to complete, and load more if you want the machine to keep running while you are away.

Bio Organic goes into the input inventory, not the output side.
Confirm the machine is drawing both electricity and Fresh Water. If either reads empty, the cycle never starts and the Bio Organic will simply sit in the input slot.
Wait by the machine while it processes. The cycle is short, and the finished material is dispensed from the output chute on the side of the unit rather than appearing in your inventory automatically.
Pick up the Omega-3 from the chute. You will know the conversion worked when the item shows in your inventory as an uncommon material weighing 0.2 kg, stacking up to 100.

Why the recycler does not produce Omega-3

This is the most common dead end. The Bio Organic item description lists Omega-3 as a possible recycling output, which reads like an instruction to drop it into a recycler. It is not. The recycler on your ship returns the same Bio Organic you put in, and no amount of repeat attempts will change that.

The Soilforge is the only route. If a cycle is not producing, the cause is almost always one of these:

  • Fresh Water tank is empty or the purifier is not connected.
  • Grid power dropped below the 5kW the machine needs.
  • Less than 200g of Bio Organic is sitting in the input slot.
  • The material was placed in a nearby storage container instead of the Soilforge input.

What Omega-3 is used for

Omega-3 is a food material, and its value is entirely in the Food Processor. Five recipes take it as an ingredient, which is why a steady Bio Organic supply matters more than a single big batch.

  • Muscle Fortification
  • Endura-Growth
  • Bone-Fortify
  • Neuro-Boost
  • Immune Boost

Once the Water Purifier and Soilforge are wired together and left running, Omega-3 production becomes background work. Stock the input slot before you head out on a night dive, and you will come back to a full output chute and enough material to keep the Food Processor busy.
