The repeater climb, the Poltergeist fight, and every dialogue choice needed to finish the mission and bank 2,500 Coupons.

Unexpected Alliance is the main mission that follows Terra Incognita and its trailing objectives in the Cost of Hope expansion for Stalker 2. It splits into two very different halves. The first is a slow, careful traversal puzzle across anomaly-covered catwalks to reach a broken repeater. The second is a defensive fight on a workshop rooftop alongside Mavka, with Snorks, Dogs, and a Controller closing in from every side.

Quick answer: Climb the ladder in front of Nitro, cross the platforms to the tower repeater and press its button, kill the Poltergeist that spawns and press the button again, report to Nitro, then head west to Chief’s bunker, find Mavka on the vehicle workshop rooftop in eastern Iron Forest, survive the mutant wave until Chief radios in, and return to Kurin to speak with Zulu.

Mission requirements and rewards

The mission unlocks automatically once Terra Incognita and the objectives chained to it are done. Before you set off, stock bolts, ammo, and at least a few Psi-Blocker pills, because the Controller in the final fight will otherwise turn the rooftop into a hallucination.

All dialogue choices in Unexpected Alliance

Four conversations gate the mission’s progress. None of them branch into a failure state, but picking the listed prompts keeps every objective flowing without extra back-and-forth.

Who you’re talking toPrompts to pick
Nitro (mission start)I can help you find her. / So what do I need to do? / How do I know what the problem is?
Chief (bunker)Sure! or Not really. / I need your help with some calculations. / Where’s Mavka off to?
Mavka (vehicle workshop)Zulu sent me. / Water under the bridge.
Zulu (Kurin)Do we have a plan? / Fine by me.

Route to the repeater from Nitro’s position

This is the most punishing part of the mission, and it has nothing to do with combat. A missed jump or a badly timed sprint through an anomaly will kill you outright, so treat every gap as its own problem and throw bolts liberally to clear anomalies before you commit.

Travel to the objective marker and talk to Nitro to open the mission. He explains the repeater is malfunctioning and sends you up to check on it.
Take the ladder directly in front of Nitro and move right at the top. Use the platform on the left to keep going, then sprint and jump to clear the first gap.

Hug the left side as you advance, throw a bolt to clear the anomaly in your path, then move forward and climb the next ladder. At the end of that walkway, sprint and jump onto the platform on the left.
Jump across the anomaly ahead and shift onto the right-side platform. Throw another bolt to neutralize the anomaly blocking the route before you step through it.

Sprint forward, clear the last gap, and climb the ladder to gain height. From there, jump across to the tower on the right and take its ladder all the way to the top.
Press the button on the repeater to switch it on. The device sits on the tower platform and shows a clear interaction prompt.

Note: Falling from any point on this route is usually fatal. Move deliberately rather than chaining sprints, and let each anomaly settle after a bolt lands before you cross.

How to kill the Poltergeist and fix the malfunction

Switching the repeater on reveals the actual cause of the fault. A Poltergeist appears, and it is the source of the interference. It moves as a fast, erratic ball of electricity and periodically hurls tools and scrap at you from a distance.

Keep firing at the electrical core whenever it is in view, and shoot incoming objects out of the air to cancel the throws. It absorbs a lot of ammunition before it goes down, so bring a weapon with a large magazine and enough reserve rounds to stay in the fight on a narrow tower platform.

With the Poltergeist dead, press the repeater button a second time to repair the malfunction. That interaction is your confirmation the objective registered. Climb back down the ladder, return to the platform you jumped from, drop down using the ladder on the right, and follow the platforms back to Nitro. Speaking with him sends you on to Chief.

Reaching Chief’s bunker

From Nitro, head west toward the marker. The bunker is defended, and a group of human enemies can be waiting outside the entrance, so clear the approach before you go in rather than sprinting for the door. Once inside, run through the dialogue and Chief points you toward Mavka’s last known position.

Finding Mavka at the vehicle workshop

Mavka is in the eastern part of the Iron Forest region, at the vehicle workshop. The ground floor is not the way in.

Take the stairs on the left side of the workshop building and follow them up to the rooftop.

Cross the roof and go through the door on the far side. Mavka is waiting inside, and the conversation starts as you approach.

Surviving the mutant attack with Mavka

Mavka climbs the tower and leaves you to hold the position. A large mixed wave arrives, made up of Snorks and Dogs, with a single Controller behind them. The rooftop is the safer ground here because it forces the mutants to funnel toward you instead of swarming from all directions.

Work through the Snorks and Dogs one at a time and keep your back to a wall. When the Controller enters the fight, it can pull you toward it and trigger hallucinations. Take a Psi-Blocker pill before pushing to ground level, then locate the Controller and shoot it. If you cannot find it, simply staying alive works, because the encounter ends when Chief sends a radio message.

Closing the mission with Zulu at Kurin

Once the conversation with Mavka wraps up, travel back to Kurin. Zulu will be mid-discussion with General Voronin when you arrive, and the interaction prompt will not appear until that exchange finishes. Wait until he breaks off and stands idle, then walk up to him and pick the closing prompts.

The mission completes on that final line of dialogue, paying out 2500 Coupons and a sizeable ammo bundle. Heart of the Iron Forest becomes available immediately afterward.

If the mission stops progressing

Two points in Unexpected Alliance can stall, and both are fixed the same way. After the talk with Mavka, the mutant wave sometimes fails to spawn, leaving you standing on the rooftop with no enemies and no objective update. Reloading the last checkpoint at Chief restores the trigger.

The second happens at Kurin, where Zulu can stay locked in place with no interaction prompt even after his conversation with Voronin ends. Give him a moment first, since the prompt legitimately stays hidden until he is idle. If he still refuses to respond, reload the most recent checkpoint and approach him again.
