The exact drop spots, evolution materials, and ability effects for the Boundless Moonless Sky unit added in Update 4.0.

Moonless Sky is the headline unit of Universal Tower Defense Z Update 4.0, a Boundless-rarity fighter modeled on Ichigo from Bleach. He does not drop directly. Instead you start with the Secret-rarity Ichiko and evolve him twice, gathering fragments and a couple of rare materials along the way.

Quick answer: Farm the Secret-rarity Ichiko from the Top of the Hueco Castle Raid, evolve him into Ichiko (Rage), then evolve Ichiko (Rage) into Moonless Sky using Universal Fragments, a Boundless Orb, Holy Fragments, Hollow Essence, a Moonless Blade, and Phantom Fragments.

Where to farm the Secret-rarity Ichiko

The base unit you need is Ichiko, which is Secret rarity. He drops only from the Top of the Hueco Castle Raid, and two stages inside that raid can award him. Boss Rush is by far the faster route because it drops Ichiko more than three times as often as Act 5.

Boss Rush10%

Run Boss Rush repeatedly until Ichiko appears in your inventory. Once you own him, you can begin the two-step evolution chain.

Evolution materials for Moonless Sky

Moonless Sky takes two separate evolutions. First you turn Ichiko into Ichiko (Rage), then you turn Ichiko (Rage) into the final Boundless Moonless Sky. Each step has its own material list.

Evolution stepRequired materials
Ichiko → Ichiko (Rage)3x Universal Fragments, 6x Burning Fragments, 3x Holy Fragments, 1x Hollow Essence, 3x Phantom Fragments
Ichiko (Rage) → Moonless Sky5x Universal Fragments, 1x Boundless Orb, 6x Holy Fragments, 1x Hollow Essence, 1x Moonless Blade, 12x Phantom Fragments

Most of these fragments show up in nearly every shop in the game, so stocking up is straightforward. The two materials that need planning are Hollow Essence and the Moonless Blade.

  • Hollow Essence is sold only in the Raid Shop and costs 800 Spirit Souls each. You need one for each evolution step, so budget for two.
  • Moonless Blade drops from the Moonless Sky Universal Tear at a 10% rate. Only the final evolution needs it.

How to evolve Ichiko into Moonless Sky

Gather the Ichiko (Rage) materials, then open the Evolution menu and select Ichiko. Confirm the evolve prompt to produce Ichiko (Rage).
Buy two Hollow Essence from the Raid Shop for 800 Spirit Souls each, since both evolution steps consume one. Grab whatever Universal, Burning, Holy, and Phantom Fragments you still need from the in-game shops.
Run the Moonless Sky Universal Tear until a Moonless Blade drops. Its 10% rate means several attempts may be required before you get one.
With every final-stage material in hand, open the Evolution menu again, select Ichiko (Rage), and confirm. The unit becomes the Boundless-rarity Moonless Sky, which you can then check in your inventory.

Moonless Sky abilities explained

Moonless Sky carries four abilities that lean heavily on status effects and offensive buffs. Understanding how they chain together matters, because his power-up form eventually strips his upgrades.

He blocked it? (passive)

  • If an enemy applies a Stun or Debuff to him, he ignores it and counterattacks for 100% damage.
  • If no counter has triggered in 15 seconds, he launches a counterattack for 125% damage without applying Pressure.

Final Moon Fang (active)

  • Raises Damage by 250%, Critical Rate by 50%, and Critical Damage by 250%.
  • Releases a Final Moon Fang attack for 650% damage.
  • Each attack drains 10% from every buff gained in this form.
  • When the buffs hit 0%, the unit becomes unsellable and enters Human form for 30 seconds.
  • After Human form ends, he returns to his base state with no upgrades.

Overwhelming Strength (passive)

  • Applies Pressure for 10 seconds and Confusion for 2 seconds.
  • Afflicted enemies take 25% more damage from all sources.
  • He deals 50% extra damage to enemies affected by Pressure.
  • When a Pressure-afflicted enemy enters half his range, he instantly deals 50% damage to it.

Reiatsu Release (passive)

  • After attacking, he leaves a lingering follow-up that deals 60% damage per second for 3 seconds.
  • Each enemy defeated by the first hit extends the follow-up by 1 second, up to 10 seconds.
  • At the end of a follow-up, he gains 10% Critical Damage, up to 100%, and follow-ups enter a 10-second cooldown.

Best traits for Moonless Sky

Moonless Sky is a hyper-offensive unit that scales with anything boosting his attack stats and status effects. Prioritize traits that push those numbers higher, namely Ruler, Astral, and Eternal. Those choices reinforce his damage buffs and status-driven kit rather than fighting against his Final Moon Fang drain.

Getting Moonless Sky comes down to two grinds. Farm Boss Rush in the Top of the Hueco Castle Raid for Ichiko, then stockpile the fragments, two Hollow Essence, a Boundless Orb, and a Moonless Blade before running the double evolution. Once he lands in your roster as a Boundless unit, pair him with attack-focused traits and let his Pressure and follow-up passives carry the fight.
