Valheim: How to Make and Use Liquid Frost in the Deep North

Turn Ice into fuel with a Frigid Kiln, then feed it to the Frost Foundry to forge Deep North gear.

Liquid Frost is a Deep North fuel in Valheim 1.0 that you cannot pick up in the world. It only exists after you process Ice inside a Frigid Kiln, and it powers the Frost Foundry that makes the biome’s armor and weapons. If you want to craft any Deep North gear, you need a reliable stream of it.

Quick answer: Build a Frigid Kiln, drop Ice into its loading port, and wait. Every 5 Ice becomes 1 Liquid Frost, which you then use as fuel in the Frost Foundry.

Build a Frigid Kiln first

The Frigid Kiln is the only structure that produces Liquid Frost, so it comes before everything else. You unlock and build it in the Deep North biome after gathering its materials there.

Collect the 10 Frost Cores from the Deep North along with the Stone and Ice, then place the kiln on flat ground at your base. Building several kilns at once pays off later, because a single unit is slow to keep the Frost Foundry running.

Where to get Ice in the Deep North

Ice is the raw material for Liquid Frost, and the Deep North has plenty of it. You mine it with a Blackmetal Pickaxe, and there are a few reliable ways to stockpile it.

  • Ice sheets along the shores of any island, where the ocean meets the beach.
  • Frozen ponds inland, which you can mine without dealing with deep water.
  • Monster drops from Skeletons and Greydwarves, which are common on the surface.

Breaking shoreline ice is the trickiest method, because you are standing on the surface you are destroying. Crack the ice from the beach edge or keep your boat close, since shards fall into the water and float away. You cannot climb from the water back onto an ice sheet, and running out of stamina in the water can drown you.

Tip: The Deep North’s cold will drain you fast. Carry Frost Resistance mead and wear a warm cape before you start mining.

Convert Ice into Liquid Frost

Return to the Frigid Kiln with your Ice. On the back of the structure you will find a small loading port where materials go in.
Place the Ice into the loading slot and wait a few moments. The kiln processes the material on its own, so there is nothing else to interact with.
Collect the Liquid Frost from the kiln’s output slot. The conversion rate is fixed at 5 Ice for every 1 Liquid Frost, so a batch of 25 Ice yields 5 Liquid Frost.

You know it worked when Liquid Frost appears in the output slot. Because the ratio is steep, run multiple kilns in parallel and keep a standing pile of Ice at base to avoid waiting on a single unit.

Use Liquid Frost in the Frost Foundry

Liquid Frost’s only purpose is to fuel the Frost Foundry, the crafting station added with the Deep North content. With the fuel in hand, the foundry lets you produce a wide range of Deep North resources and gear.

Interact with the top of the Frost Foundry to place a Cast from your active item slot.
Add Liquid Frost as fuel to activate the machine. It burns through fuel as it works, so keep a supply on hand for larger projects.
Wait for the process to finish. The new weapon or armor appears on top of the foundry for you to collect.

Crafting a full set of Deep North gear consumes a large amount of Liquid Frost, so treat Ice mining and kiln output as an ongoing routine rather than a one-time task. If space is tight early on, you can dismantle the Frost Foundry to reclaim its materials, build extra Frigid Kilns to stockpile fuel, then rebuild the foundry once you are ready to craft.

Console command alternative

If you would rather skip the grind, Liquid Frost can be spawned directly with a console command. The spawn identifier for the item is FrozenFuel. This bypasses the Frigid Kiln entirely, though it removes the crafting loop that the resource is built around.
