Helicopters in WARDOGS feel broken until you change two things in the options menu. The default keyboard-only setup gives you on/off inputs on every axis, which makes smooth corrections almost impossible. Turning on mouse control for rotary vehicles and switching off the flight assists changes the aircraft from a machine that fights you into one that does what you ask.

Open Settings and go to Controls. Everything that matters for flying sits in two groups: the mouse options for rotary vehicles, and the four flight assists. The assists add artificial resistance to your inputs, which is why the aircraft can feel heavy and sluggish before you touch them.

Some pilots prefer yaw on the mouse’s left/right swipe and roll on keys, which is closer to certain Arma setups. MH-6 keybinds for collective, cyclic, and yaw
Head to Keybinds and find the Rotary Vehicle Keybinds group. The labels are written in helicopter terms rather than game terms, so it helps to know that collective is your altitude control, cyclic is pitch and roll, and yaw is the tail rotor.

Space with Left Ctrl, or Left Shift with Left Ctrl, are the other common collective layouts, and they free WASD for pitch and yaw. Space carries a hidden conflict with the minigun on armed variants, though, so if your collective stops responding in the AH-6M, that is the likely cause.
Basic flight inputs for the MH-6
Start with a low hover. Raise collective in small increments and watch the collective indicator on the HUD, which shows whether you are climbing, descending, or holding neutral. Getting the aircraft to sit at head height without wandering is the whole first lesson.
Forward flight comes from a small nose-down pitch, not from a throttle input. Push the mouse forward slightly, let speed build, then use gentle roll to turn. When the nose or the bank starts running away from you, back off the input instead of stabbing the opposite direction — with the assists off, opposite inputs near the ground are what turn a wobble into a crash.
Note: rotor blades can be repaired on the ground with a wrench, and one wrench covers two repairs. That is worth knowing before you clip a tree line.
How to do the J-Hook landing
The J-Hook is the standard way to go from roughly 100 to zero and put the skids down without a long, exposed approach. It works because you use the airframe itself as a brake, presenting its underside to your direction of travel.
Expect to need more room than the equivalent manoeuvre in Arma 3 — the WARDOGS flight model carries momentum further. Practice it over open ground in the range before trying it onto a rooftop or into a compound.
Keyboard and mouse vs controller vs HOTAS
Keyboard and mouse is entirely viable once mouse control is enabled, because the mouse supplies the analog axis that keys cannot. Without it you are stuck with binary inputs on every axis, and certain manoeuvres simply cannot be flown.
Controllers are the weakest option at the moment. Bindings cannot be remapped in game, and yaw sits on buttons rather than the second stick. Steam Input is the usual workaround, mapping the right stick to mouse output and rebinding the rest from there; some players go further with vJoy and Joystick Gremlin to present a pad as a HOTAS, using HidHide so the raw controller does not interfere.
HOTAS hardware gives the most granular control, with true axes for pitch, roll, yaw and collective. Detection and remapping are still build-sensitive, and assignments have been reported to reset between sessions, so verify every axis while parked before you commit to a flight and keep keyboard and mouse available as a fallback.

WARDOGS is still in closed beta, so control menus, default binds and device handling can shift between builds. Re-check your axes after each update, and give yourself several hours in the range before carrying anyone.
