WARDOGS is nine days out from Early Access, and the week in front of it is unusually busy. There is a server test, a publisher-run showcase, and a persistent community rumor that an open beta will drop at the end of that showcase. Only two of those three things are real.
Quick answer: No open beta has been announced by BULKHEAD or Team17. What is confirmed is a backend stress test on September 2 at 17:00 UTC, the FPS Games Show on September 3 at 19:00 BST (18:00 UTC) on Twitch, and Early Access on September 10, 2026.
WARDOGS schedule before Early Access
Three dates matter between now and launch. Two are confirmed by the studio. One is not.
| Date and time | What happens | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Sep 2, 17:00 UTC | Firing Range server test, built to stress the backend login queues | Confirmed |
| Sep 3, 19:00 BST (18:00 UTC) | FPS Games Show, hosted by BULKHEAD on Twitch | Confirmed |
| Sep 3, immediately after the show | Open beta start | Rumor only |
| Sep 10 | Early Access launch on PC via Steam | Confirmed (exact hour not announced) |
The September 2 session is not a content drop. It exists to push traffic at the login and queue systems so that launch day does not fall over, which is a direct response to how much bigger the player base turned out to be than planned.
Where the open beta rumor comes from
The rumor is built entirely on circumstantial signals, and it is worth knowing exactly what those are before you plan your evening around them.
- BULKHEAD CEO Joe Brammer replied “Both.” when asked whether September 3 and September 10 were worth booking off work.
- Brammer separately hinted at clearing his schedule on September 3.
- Content creators, including Lossy and TheJan, teased streaming plans for the hours after the showcase.
- The Steam pre-purchase notice points players toward the FPS Games Show for a major announcement.
None of that is an announcement. There is no published start time, no stated end date, no access requirement, and no word on whether it would be free. Treat the September 3 timing as a community guess until BULKHEAD or Team17 says otherwise on the official WARDOGS Steam page.
Note: if an open beta did start on September 3, it would have at most a one-week window before Early Access opens. That is simple arithmetic between the two dates, not a duration anyone has confirmed.
Progression at launch is slower than it was in the beta
The closed beta ran on a condensed progression curve so that testers could reach unlocks quickly inside a single weekend. That was a test setting, not the real one. Brammer has confirmed that progression at launch will be meaningfully slower, so anyone expecting to blow through WARDOG levels at beta pace on September 10 should reset that expectation.

Tanks are also being reined in. The L2A6 is being locked behind a dedicated driver role rather than sitting open to anyone with enough cash, which is aimed squarely at stopping players from spamming armor into a match.

Does closed beta progress carry over to launch?
There is no confirmed carryover for cash or XP earned during the closed beta weekend, which ran from August 21 at 17:00 UTC to August 24 at 02:00 UTC. Nothing has been published about how the progression handoff works between the test build and the Early Access build.
The safe assumption is that beta progression is temporary. You will know for certain on September 10, when you log into Early Access and either see your balance and WARDOG level intact or start again from the standard $10,000 stake every player begins with.
Pre-orders are 1,933% over target, and servers are the problem
Pre-orders and beta access requests came in 1,933% above BULKHEAD’s internal targets, with beta requests alone passing seven figures. The closed beta also cleared 100,000 players on Steam.
That overshoot is the reason the September 2 test exists. A player count roughly twenty times higher than planned means server capacity and running costs both scale past what was budgeted, and login queues are the first thing to break under that kind of load.
What ships in Early Access on September 10
Early Access includes the core mode as tested: 100 players split across Manticore, Valkyra, and Lonestar, fighting over a randomized 2x2km Control Zone inside a much larger map. Every 30 seconds the team with the most players inside the zone banks a point, and the first to 100 wins.
Alongside that, the launch build carries the persistent cash and XP progression, ground vehicles and helicopters, logistics and base building, destructible structures, proximity voice chat, and the dynamic objective zones. Money follows you between matches, so repairing and keeping a vehicle alive is a financial decision as much as a tactical one.

A defense company has threatened legal action
A major defense company, not a weapons manufacturer, has threatened BULKHEAD with legal action over the unauthorized use of its designs and intellectual property in the game. The complaint landed after WARDOGS became highly visible on Twitch during the beta, which is a familiar pattern: the more eyes on a military shooter, the more likely a rights holder notices its hardware on screen.
The dispute has not been resolved publicly, and no specific asset changes have been announced as a result of it.

WARDOGS price, editions, and PC requirements
WARDOGS is PC only, with no console release announced. The Standard Edition is $39.99 and the Supporter Edition is $49.99, with the difference being cosmetic items and no gameplay advantage.
| Component | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| OS | Windows 10 | Windows 11 |
| CPU | Core i5 8600 / Ryzen 5 3500 | Core i7 12700k / Ryzen 7 5700x |
| RAM | 16 GB | 16 GB |
| GPU | GTX 1660 / RX 590 | RTX 3070 / RX 6700 XT |
| Storage | 50 GB | 50 GB |
| Target | 1080p Low, 60fps upscaled | 1440p Medium, 70fps+ native |
No beta-specific requirements have been published, so the figures above are the ones to plan around either way.
If you want the earliest possible read on whether an open beta is happening, the FPS Games Show on September 3 is the moment to watch, since that is where BULKHEAD’s own store messaging points. Until something is said on that stream, the only dates you can safely build plans around are the September 2 server test and the September 10 Early Access launch.
