Well-Oiled Machine in Hot Wheels Infinite Rush: All 1200 Gear Locations

Every island hides 300 Gears, and the trophy only pops once all 1,200 have been picked up.

Every island hides 300 Gears, and the trophy only pops once all 1,200 have been picked up.

Gears are the largest collectible set in Hot Wheels Infinite Rush, and they are the reason most completion runs stall out. Milestone spread 1,200 of them across the game’s four open-world islands, with no in-game treasure map, hint purchase, or “show me what I missed” button to fall back on once you are down to the stragglers. Well-Oiled Machine is the trophy tied to the full set, and it sits at roughly 0.8 percent on PlayStation — one of the rarest things in the game outside the platinum itself.

Quick answer: Collect all 300 Gears on each of Wheelswood, Tentacle Bay, Gearville, and Drifty Temples — 1,200 total — and Well-Oiled Machine unlocks the moment the last one is picked up in free roam.

Gear count by island

The split is even. Each island carries exactly 300 Gears, so there is no “short” island to knock out first and no bonus stash hidden in a race event. Islands unlock as you progress the Career, and everyone starts in Wheelswood, so the natural order is also the order you gain access to them.

What a Gear looks like and how it is collected

Gears are glowing cog-shaped pickups that float at bumper height in the open world. There is no prompt, no minigame, and no need to stop. Drive through one and it is banked instantly, permanently, and across every vehicle in your garage. They exist only in free roam — you cannot farm them inside a Career or Arcade event, even if the race route passes straight through a spot where one sits.

Placement follows each island’s architecture rather than a grid. In Drifty Temples, Gears line the narrow streets of the Japanese-style town and continue straight into the canals, so you will be driving through water for several of them. Gearville leans on catwalks, machinery platforms, and open desert stretches. Wheelswood pushes a lot of its set up onto rooftops, ramps, and elevated orange track, while Tentacle Bay hides them along the shoreline and among the natural scenery.

Track your Gear progress per island

Each island keeps its own counter, displayed as a running total out of 300 while you drive. That per-island count is the only reliable way to know where you stand, and it is what you should be checking before moving on. Do not leave an island at 298 or 299 with the intention of coming back — the Launch pad hop between islands drops you into a loading screen each time, and re-finding two Gears in a district you already cleared is the slowest possible version of this task.

A district-by-district sweep routine

Finish enough Career progression to unlock all four islands before you start collecting seriously. Sweeping a locked island is impossible, and jumping between half-opened maps wastes trips through the Launch pad.
Pick a vehicle that suits the island’s terrain. Free roam lets you swap between Versatile, Speeder, Drifter, and Titan on the fly, and a Titan is far more forgiving in Gearville’s industrial clutter or Tentacle Bay’s rough ground than a Speeder is.
Work one district at a time rather than driving wherever the map looks interesting. Clear every street, alley, canal, and rooftop in a single area, confirm the counter moved by the number you expect, then move to the next district.
Ease off the boost in built-up areas. High-speed runs are great for the Rush Counter, but at full nitro you will fly past cogs tucked behind fences, under overpasses, and inside side streets — and you will not notice the miss until the end.

Take the vertical routes deliberately. Ramps, loops, and stretches of elevated orange track are not scenery — several Gears only sit along those paths, and you cannot reach them from the ground below.

Tip: expect the sweep to surface other content. Free roam constantly flags new activities as you drive into unexplored corners, and those discoveries feed the Stunt, Daredevil, and Tourist trophies you will need anyway.

Collect Stickers and Billboards on the same routes

Gears are not the only thing scattered through these districts. Stickers and collectible Billboards sit along the same streets, and Secret Tokens unlock vehicles. Stickers in particular are worth grabbing as you pass, since they require you to stop and open Photo Mode rather than simply driving through, and backtracking for them later means repeating routes you have already cleared.

When Well-Oiled Machine unlocks and how to confirm it

The trophy fires the instant the 1,200th Gear is touched. There is no menu to claim, no reward screen, and no need to return to a hub. If all four island counters read 300/300 and nothing has popped, the missing pickup is on whichever island the counter has not yet maxed — the per-island totals are the authoritative check, not your memory of which districts felt finished.

Well-Oiled Machine is one of 51 trophies in the game’s 1,350-point list on PS5, and it feeds the platinum, Infinite Rush. Xbox players are chasing the identical achievement condition.

Why the last hundred Gears take the longest

The first several hundred Gears mostly collect themselves. They sit on obvious driving lines, and you will bank dozens simply travelling between Career events. The problem is the tail. Infinite Rush offers no map overlay, proximity ping, or purchasable hint that narrows down what you still need, so the final stretch is pure re-exploration of districts you believe you already cleared.

That is why the district-by-district discipline matters more than raw speed. A methodical pass that leaves each island at 300/300 before you fly out costs a few extra hours up front, but it avoids the far worse version of this hunt — circling a city at random, watching a counter that refuses to tick, with no way to ask the game where the last cog is hiding.
