Where Winds Meet: Echoes of Old Battles Puzzle Solution

The sealed treasury at the end of Echoes of Old Battles, the first Jianghu Legacy quest in Qinghe, is locked behind a wall mechanism tied to the Yanyun Oath. The puzzle sits underground beneath a training ground in the Verdant Wilds, and it only reacts once you perform the Yanyun Oath gesture in front of the large statue.

Unlock Echoes of Old Battles in Qinghe

The quest lives under the Jianghu Legacy tab of the Qinghe Exploration menu, listed as Jianghu Legacy 01. To start it, talk to the eavesdropper standing by the gate at Battlecrest Slope in the Verdant Wilds. Asking the Wayfarer at Moonveil Mountain is the prerequisite that surfaces the lead.

After accepting, select the quest from the Jianghu Legacy list and inspect it so the location is marked on your map.

Reach the wall puzzle underground

Step 1: Speak to the eavesdropper at Battlecrest Slope, open the gate, then clear the training ground. You will fight several guards and Zhang Bao, a hard-hitting enemy, so keep parrying and dodging through his combos.

Step 2: Open the chest on the training ground to receive the treasure map clue. The map points to a set of contraptions, and only one needs to be lit. Light the mechanism standing right next to that chest.

Step 3: A new contraption rises at the center of the training ground. Use Mighty Drop on it to expose the staircase leading down. Descend until you find a corpse, then inspect it to learn the Yanyun Oath and the Yanyun Oath gesture.

Step 4: From the corpse, take the left path down another flight of steps to reach the chamber with the large statue. Perform the Yanyun Oath gesture facing the statue to activate the wall mechanism on either side.

Wall mechanism solution (Yanyun Oath characters)

Each wall holds stone blocks carved with Chinese characters. Pulling a block out lights it up; pushing it back in dims it. The gate stays sealed until exactly the eight oath characters are lit and nothing else. Light these blocks:

Work one block at a time and double-check the glow state before moving on. If the gate does not open, the usual cause is an extra block still pushed out, or one of the eight oath blocks left dimmed. Reset by pushing in everything that is not on the list, then pull out only the eight characters above.

Open the final gate and claim the treasure

Step 1: With the gate open, pass through and crouch beneath the rope trap. You can cross the wooden path to grab a side treasure chest before continuing.

Step 2: Drop into the lower area with the water wheel and waterfall. Go through the waterfall and activate the mechanism behind it to spin the wheel, which unlocks the last stone gate.

Step 3: Enter the chamber and open the treasure left by the Northern Vow soldiers at the far end. Read the writings on the wall afterward to close out the quest.

You will know it worked when the stone gate slides open after the wheel spins, and the quest completes once you finish reading the wall text following the treasure.
