Where Winds Meet: How to Find and Beat the Ironheart Centipede World Boss

Reach the Hidden Mountain platform above the city, open the chest, and counter two clockwork attacks to claim Heart of Rust.

Reach the Hidden Mountain platform above the city, open the chest, and counter two clockwork attacks to claim Heart of Rust.

The Ironheart Centipede is one of two world bosses added to the Hidden Mountains region in the Where Winds Meet 2.0 update, alongside the puppet duo Ci & Cuo. It is a Mohist mechanism, a clockwork creature built long ago by the Five Wonders, and it waits at the top of a broken mountain path rather than down in the city. Reaching it takes some climbing, but the fight itself is short once you learn its two attacks.

Quick answer: Unlock the Hidden Mountains region, return to the spot where you first entered it after meeting Heron, take the ruined uphill path instead of descending into the city, then interact with the chest on the platform at the top to enter the boss room.

Requirements before you can fight the Ironheart Centipede

You cannot attempt either Hidden Mountain world boss until you have opened the region. Access begins with the quest chain “Yingying’s Invitation,” which mostly involves following markers and a river crossing by boat that can take a few tries. The region also carries a level and story gate.

LevelReach Lv.32
Story progressComplete Hidden Mountain Main Chapter 2: Haven Astray

Tip: Set a boundary stone in the area before you climb. There is one near the top, so having a teleport point ready saves you from repeating the ascent.

How to reach the boss room

Travel to the point where you first properly enter Hidden Mountains, right after your encounter with Heron. This is the starting location for the climb, not a marker deep inside the map.

Instead of heading down the ridge toward the city, take the path that goes up. An NPC warns that this route is dangerous because it has fallen into disrepair, which confirms you are going the right way.
Follow the ziplines and broken sections upward. The main threat on the way is the monkeys that throw rocks at you, so keep moving through the drops rather than lingering.
At the top you will find a group of monkeys, a boundary stone, and a chest sitting on a small platform. Interact with the chest to open the boss room for the Ironheart Centipede.

Once inside, look for the Hero’s Tomb and interact with it. This sets your revive point so that if you die during the fight, you respawn there instead of losing your progress to the encounter.

How to beat the Ironheart Centipede

The Ironheart Centipede has only one health bar and a limited move set, which makes it one of the more approachable Hidden Mountain bosses. A close-range setup works best. A Rope Dart paired with the new Gauntlet weapon fits well, since the boss keeps most of its damage at mid range and a melee build lets you stay tight against it and slip past those swings.

AttackRangeHow to counter
Sideways slashMid-rangePull toward the boss with the Rope Dart to leave the arc, or deflect it; with deflection assist on, the prompt appears in time to react
Ground stabClose-rangeIt strikes straight down with both blades. Dash back or to the side. The cue is the boss leaning back while standing tall

Deal damage in the gaps between those two moves and the fight rewards steady pressure over caution. Partway through, the Centipede sheds part of its armor in a short phase shift, but its behavior does not change afterward. Keep using the same reads on the slash and the stab, and you can clear it in a single attempt.

Rewards for defeating the Ironheart Centipede

Your first clear is tracked in the Wulin Journal and pays out the largest bundle. Beyond that, the Trial menu offers Sword Forge Challenges tied to this boss with their own cosmetic and material rewards.

Source Rewards
First-time defeat Accessory Heart of Rust, Inner Way Note: Custom Chest, Medicinal Tales, Echo Jade, and more
Sword Forge Challenges (Trial menu) Player avatar Ironheart Centipede, badge Trial: Iron Wrath, Echo Jade, and more

You will know the run counted when the fight ends, the reward screen lists Heart of Rust, and the Wulin Journal marks the boss as defeated. If you die, you respawn at the Hero’s Tomb you activated on the way in, so you can reset and try the encounter again without redoing the climb from the region entrance.
