Where Winds Meet Wandering Tales: Full Walkthrough for Version 2.0

Every documented Wandering Tale, where to start it, and the exact actions that mark it complete.

Every documented Wandering Tale, where to start it, and the exact actions that mark it complete.

Wandering Tales are the short, self-contained NPC quests scattered across Jianghu in Where Winds Meet. They hand you a rumor or a personal drama, ask you to chase down a clue, and pay out on completion. You can beat the whole main story without touching them, but each one you skip is character content and rewards left on the table.

Quick answer: Start a Wandering Tale by speaking to a Wayfarer (or the tale’s specific NPC), then select it in your journal under Wandering Tales or the Exploration tab, follow the on-screen clue to its location, and finish the listed action. Every completed tale grants Echo Jade, Character EXP, Qinghe Exploration, and Coin.

How Wandering Tales work and what they reward

Most tales become available after you talk to a Wayfarer for the region. The Wayfarer of Moonveil Mountain and the Wayfarer of Verdant Wilds unlock several of the early ones. Once a tale is flagged, open your journal, pick it under Wandering Tales (some appear under the Exploration tab once the area map is revealed), and read the clue before you set out.

The payout is the same across the board. Finishing a Wandering Tale gives you Echo Jade, Character EXP, Qinghe Exploration progress, and Coin. Some tales also drop a unique item mid-quest, such as a weapon or a consumable.

Version 2.0, Unseen Approach, went live on July 23, 2026 and added the Hidden Mountain region, the Gauntlets weapon class, and the Mohist Hill sect, alongside new main and side story quests. The Wandering Tale system carries over unchanged, so the steps below apply whether you are exploring older regions or the new content.

True or False: Young Master walkthrough

Talk to the Wayfarer of Moonveil Mountain to unlock this tale, then select it in your journal. It centers on a scammer who has copied your appearance and is running a con.

Travel north of Heaven’s Pier to confront the impostor wearing your face.

Speak to the scammer to trigger the Gift of Gab duel. Pick cards to attack and drain the opponent’s bar at the top of the screen, spend the Inspirations shown in the upper-left corner of each card, and rebut the enemy’s attacks to land heavy damage.
Win the duel to play a cutscene where the scammer runs. Defeat the goons that appear afterward to earn Echo Jade x4 for exposing him.
Head to Harvestfall Village and find Celestial Ferry Crossing Shao Dongjia to close out the first stage and receive Premium Parting Tears.
For the second encounter, locate the scammer again at Harvestfall Village standing in front of the merchant Hao Jiu, and speak to him. He flees, which completes the tale. This step is only available after you beat him in the earlier duel.

A Foolproof Plan walkthrough

Unlock this tale through the Wayfarer of Moonveil Mountain, then select it under the Exploration tab once the area map is open. Shu Shu’er wants Parting Tears and promises a treasure map in return.

Travel to the center of the region, north of Heaven’s Pier, and talk to Shu Shu’er to hear his request.

Collect a jar of Parting Tears from any of the nearby spots below, then return and give it to Shu Shu’er. He rewards you with Killerblade rather than the promised map.
  • Winery, in the large jar on the left side of the storage area.
  • Yuan Tiantian Bounty Board, right beside the Annals of Geography.
  • Yuan Tiantian’s Food Stall, on the table.
  • North of Heaven’s Pier, in a box beside the wine jars near the docks.
After he drinks, Shu Shu’er heads for Blissful Retreat. Follow him and you will find him under attack by masked soldiers near the bridge. Speak to the soldiers to resolve the encounter. Saving Shu Shu’er completes the tale.

A Toast to Heroes walkthrough

Speak to the Wayfarer of Verdant Wilds to unlock this one, then begin it from the Attlecrest Slope mini-region inside the Verdant Wilds.

Find Grandpa Zhou at the tea stall. He is weeping because he lost his bag. Talk to him to start the quest.

Go to the hill on the right of Grandpa Zhou where a broken pot sits. Watch for the cluster of snakes in the grass, use Wind Sense to pinpoint the bag, and use Celestial Seize to grab it safely. Return the Soaked Bundle to him.
Grandpa Zhou then asks you to clear out bandits and bring back two jars of Sacrificial Wine. The Northern Jar is north of the Northern Vow Ruins and the Southern Jar is south of it; look for the wine on carts inside the bandit camps.
Deliver both jars of Sacrificial Wine to Grandpa Zhou at the Northern Vow Ruins Boundary Stone to finish the tale.

Abyss of Desire walkthrough

Head to the Heavenly Pier in the Moonveil area to trigger this tale. Work your way through General’s Shrine, follow the dirt road toward the bar, then drop down to the pier.

Find Mu Bai on the left side of the pier and speak with him to open the tale about the mysterious men.

Collect the Small Jar of Parting Tears from a small table at a stall along the path behind the tavern, then give it to Mu Bai to unlock more dialogue.
Pick up the Premium Parting Tears at Tiantian’s stall near the marketplace and hand them over. Mu Bai reveals more about the mysterious men and gives his final request.
Grab the Large Jar of Parting Tears from inside the brewery under the shed and bring it back. Delivering all three jars completes the tale as Mu Bai shares the ending.

Meow Meow Temple walkthrough

Speak to the fortune teller Fu Lubao beside the General’s Shrine. He hints at treasure hidden inside the Meow Meow Temple and sets the tale in motion.

Travel to the cave leading to the General’s Shrine, which is the entrance to the Meow Meow puzzle.
Search the cave for a statue, usually tucked near the walls or in an alcove, carry it over, and place it on the correct slab. Solving the puzzle grants a Bell.
Take the Bell back to Fu Lubao and interact with him to complete the exchange.
Follow his instruction to visit the Meow Meow Temple and claim the treasures. The tale ends once Fu Lubao drifts away.

How to confirm a Wandering Tale is complete

A tale is finished the moment its final action resolves, usually the NPC leaving or a closing cutscene playing. You will see the reward payout of Echo Jade, Character EXP, Qinghe Exploration, and Coin, and the tale drops out of your active list in the journal.

If a tale will not advance, the most common cause is a missing prerequisite. True or False: Young Master, for example, only lets you reach the second encounter after you win the earlier Gift of Gab duel. When a step stalls, recheck the clue in your journal and confirm you have handed over the exact item the NPC asked for before moving on.
