Dreadmist Peak is the fog-shrouded mountain in the northern part of The Barrens, sitting northwest of the Crossroads and just east of The Forgotten Pools. Most of its faces are sheer rock you cannot walk up, which is why players get stuck circling the base. There is one natural ramp, and once you find it the climb is short.
Quick answer: Approach from the west near The Forgotten Pools and run straight up the sloped dirt ridge on the mountain’s western flank. Follow the trail at the top to the cave entrance at 47, 19.
Why the western ridge is the route to use
The northern, southern, and eastern faces of the mountain are too steep to scale on foot. The Demon Seed quest text points you at the northern face, but the western slope near The Forgotten Pools has a gently angled dirt spine that lets you walk right to the top. That ridge is the fast, low-traffic way up.
You will know you are on the correct mountain because the sky shifts to a fiery orange and the summit is wrapped in red mist. That miasma is the marker that you have reached Burning Blade territory.
If you are on The Demon Seed, first pick up the Flawed Power Stone from the table next to Ak’Zeloth at Far Watch Post (62, 20). The stone decays after 30 minutes, so climb promptly. Then position yourself on the western side of the mountain, directly east of The Forgotten Pools. Run north past the pools until you are looking up at the western slope of the peak.
Find the narrow dirt ramp that juts out from the western flank. It reads as a natural crest or spine rather than a wall. Players have had success starting the ascent near 50, 22 or 51, 21.
Run straight up the crest of the ridge. Stay on the natural spine rather than veering toward the steeper rock on either side, and keep climbing until the slope levels out.

The cave you want is Dreadmist Den, and it is not at the very highest point of the mountain. Head for the Burning Blade encampment instead: the cave is at 47, 19, just below the highest point, guarded by Burning Blade cultists.
Clear the Burning Blade cultists guarding the entrance. These are roughly level 10 to 12 mobs, and they can be pulled one at a time with careful positioning so you never fight the whole camp at once. Rathorian, the level 15 named leader of these cultists, is often inside the den beside the altar and has to be defeated before you can use the stone. He is not elite, but at low level lure him out on his own rather than fighting him alongside the other guards.
Go inside the cave and interact with the glowing crystal above the stone altar to destroy the Demon Seed.
From here you can head back down the way you came. The western ridge is the same route in both directions, so retracing your steps keeps you clear of the extra mobs that guard the other faces of the mountain.
