What Scarce materials are in WoW Forever

Scarce materials are a new type of material in World of Warcraft: Forever. Nine items carry the Scarce label in game. Each of the three gathering professions, Skinning, Mining and Herbalism, has three of them, one for each of three tiers. All nine are Uncommon quality.

You don’t harvest them from a dedicated node or corpse. They turn up as extra discoveries while you gather normally, on top of the regular leather, ore or herbs you would collect anyway. Crafting professions need them for many recipes, so a crafter who doesn’t gather has to buy them from someone who does. A Scarce find is easy to recognize because the item shows the Scarce label and Uncommon quality in your bags.

Bauxite is used in only 2 recipes, Sandpaper at Engineering 130 and Enchant Necklace – Strength at Enchanting 225, which needs four. Pitchblende also feeds 2 recipes. The more you skin, mine and pick herbs, the more chances you get. The Legacy talent Bountiful Harvest raises those chances directly. Blizzard says it “helps you find additional Scarce resources when mining, herbing, or skinning”, and the in-game tooltip reads:
