Marvel Tokon: How to Unlock Every Extra Costume Color

The exact conditions for Colors 05, 06, 08, and 09, plus why Color 07 is still locked for everyone.

The exact conditions for Colors 05, 06, 08, and 09, plus why Color 07 is still locked for everyone.

Every fighter in Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has eight costume colors in the base game, and only the first four are ready to use the moment you boot it up. The remaining four are tied to specific tasks, and each one uses a different trigger. Some unlock for a whole team or the entire roster at once, while others have to be earned character by character.

Quick answer: Finish a team’s Episode to unlock Color 05 for that team’s four fighters, win 10 Casual matches to unlock Color 06 for the whole roster, clear each character’s Action Check and Combo Challenge to unlock their Color 08, and buy the Ultimate Edition to get Color 09 (Animated Chromatic). Color 07’s unlock method has not been discovered yet.

All Marvel Tokon costume colors and how they unlock

Colors 01 through 04 are available from the start for every character. The table below covers the four extra colors and what each one requires.

ColorUnlock conditionApplies to
Color 05Complete a team’s EpisodeAll four fighters on that team
Color 06Win 10 Casual matchesEntire roster
Color 07Currently unknownUndetermined
Color 08Complete a character’s Action Check and Combo ChallengeThat single character
Color 09Purchase the Ultimate EditionAll 20 launch characters

Once a color unlocks, it shows up in the color-select screen for the affected fighter or fighters. If it does not appear there, the condition has not fully registered yet.

Color 05: finish each team’s Episode

Color 05 is earned through Episode Mode, the game’s single-player story content. There are five Episodes, one for each of the five teams, and completing an Episode unlocks Color 05 for all four fighters attached to that team at once.

For example, clearing the Samurai Outriders Episode grants Color 05 to Loki, Deadpool, Ghost Rider, and Blade. If you want Color 05 for Iron Man, you would play through the Fighting Avengers Episode instead. To get the color for the whole cast, you need to complete all five Episodes.

Each Episode runs roughly 90 minutes and the difficulty ramps up as you progress. If a fight stops you, the CPU’s strength can be lowered a few times after you lose, which makes the later matches more manageable for newer players.

Color 06: win 10 Casual matches

Color 06 unlocks for the entire roster once you win 10 matches in Casual, the standard online mode where the first player to take three rounds wins the set. The characters you pick do not matter, and losing sets along the way does not set you back. Only the total of 10 wins counts.

Because Casual pits you against real opponents, this is the extra color that can take the longest for newcomers. It is worth learning a few combos with a main before diving in. Playing through Casual also opens up Ranked, so you unlock competitive play at the same time.

Color 08: clear each character’s lessons

Color 08 is unlocked one fighter at a time through Character Lesson mode. For each character, you need to complete both their Action Check and their Combo Challenge. The Action Check walks you through that fighter’s basics, while the Combo Challenge tests you on a set of inputs you have to land correctly.

Finishing the lessons for one character only unlocks their Color 08. Clearing Carnage’s challenges, for instance, gives Color 08 to Carnage and no one else. To collect it for all 20 launch characters, you have to work through every fighter’s Action Check and Combo Challenge.

Note: The Level-Up Missions do not factor into this. They do not grant Color 08, so if the color is all you are after, you can skip them entirely.

Color 09: buy the Ultimate Edition

Color 09 is the Animated Chromatic set, and there is no way to earn it through play. It is bundled exclusively with the Ultimate Edition, which unlocks the color for all 20 launch characters along with extra costumes for fighters such as Iron Man, Storm, and Doctor Doom.

MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls. Deluxe. Ultimate Edition Upgrade

The Ultimate Edition runs $99.99. If you already own Marvel Tokon, you can move up to it through an upgrade for an additional $15. Either route delivers the same Animated Chromatic unlock for the full launch roster.

Color 07: still unsolved

Color 07 is the one gap. Its unlock condition has not been figured out, and players are still testing approaches. Early attention has pointed toward modes like Arcadia Rumble and Survival, but so far those have only handed out badges and gallery rewards rather than the color itself. No confirmed method exists at this time.

Everything else is fully within reach. Play through the five Episodes, bank 10 Casual wins, and grind out the Character Lessons, and you will have Colors 05, 06, and 08 across the roster without spending a cent beyond the base game. Color 09 stays a paid extra tied to the Ultimate Edition, and Color 07 remains the lone mystery until its trigger is nailed down.
