Curse of Ula’tek is the first major content update for World of Warcraft: Midnight, and it lands as the second chapter of the expansion. It sends players to The Coiled Isle, a fog-shrouded island off the eastern coast of Zul’Aman that hides the prison of a vengeful loa named Ula’tek. The update also carries a wide combat rebalance, a new dungeon, and a housing overhaul.
Quick answer: Patch 12.1 goes live Tuesday, August 11, 2026 after server maintenance. Midnight Season 2, with the Venomous Abyss raid and the Mythic+ rotation, opens one week later on August 18.

Patch 12.1 release timeline
The content update and the new season arrive on separate dates. Patch 12.1 unlocks The Coiled Isle and the combat changes first, then Season 2 flips on the ranked ladder and raid a week afterward.
| Milestone | Date | What unlocks |
|---|---|---|
| Patch 12.1 launch | August 11, 2026 (after maintenance) | The Coiled Isle, Lairs, Altar of Fangs dungeon (up to Mythic 0), three new Delves, class changes, housing updates |
| Midnight Season 2 | August 18, 2026 | Venomous Abyss raid, Mythic+ rotation, new PvP season, Bountiful Delves and keys, new Prey |
The Coiled Isle and its activities
The Coiled Isle continues the story of Zul’jan as Zul’jarra pursues him to bring her brother and others back to Zul’Aman. Inside the island’s mountain sits a corrupted ecosystem of poisonous waters and venomous foes. While you explore, a zone-only talent tree grants both power perks and quality-of-life picks, including one that reduces the potency of the venom around the isle.
- Vaults of Atal’Utek: group content and rotating public events that build up to a boss fight.
- Curse Surges: regularly spawn rare elites at five rotating locations across the isle.
- Lairs: an evolution of world bosses placed in instanced encounters with scaling difficulty up to flexible Mythic for 15–25 players, each with a summoning stone outside.
New dungeon, raid, and Delves
Altar of Fangs is a three-boss dungeon available up to Mythic 0 at launch, and it joins the Mythic+ pool once Season 2 begins. The eight-boss Venomous Abyss raid arrives with the season and ends in a fight against Ula’tek. Three Delves also open, including a Nemesis Delve.
| Content | Details |
|---|---|
| Altar of Fangs | Three new bosses, Mythic 0 at launch, added to Mythic+ in Season 2 |
| Venomous Abyss | Eight boss encounters, final boss Ula’tek, opens with Season 2 |
| New Delves | The Ring of Glory, Gnarldor Isle, and the Venomfall Deeps (Nemesis Delve) |
The Season 2 Mythic+ rotation pairs Altar of Fangs with returning dungeons that received design and quality-of-life updates.
| New rotation | Returning with updates |
|---|---|
| Altar of Fangs | Kings’ Rest |
| Murder Row | Ruby Life Pools |
| Den of Nalorakk | Temple of Sethraliss |
| The Blinding Vale | |
| Voidscar Arena |
When Season 2 starts, Bountiful Delves and keys become available, and you can push past Tier 7 to challenge a new Nemesis boss. Existing Midnight Delves also gain new snake and venom variants.
Combat changes: 25% health and damage, smoother cooldowns
At max level, player health and creature damage both rise by 25%, and health consumables are adjusted to match the new health values. The goal is to make incoming damage less spiky so healing feels steadier instead of forcing quick, panic reactions. Encounter abilities are hand-tuned to fit the new numbers.
Several DPS specializations have their major cooldowns pulled back while steady-state damage goes up. Retribution Paladin is a clear example, with Avenging Wrath now increasing damage and critical strike chance by 15% (was 20%), while Blade of Justice damage is up 40% and Final Verdict up 15% to compensate. This pattern of lower burst and higher baseline runs across many specs.
Two combat-wide quality changes also apply. Class interrupts such as Kick, Pummel, and Counterspell now show a “missed” visual and play a separate sound when used on a target that was not casting. In PvP, diminishing return categories now reset after 20 seconds instead of 16.

Cooldown Manager, ping system, and Discord chat
The Cooldown Manager now tracks trinkets and potions, plus racial ability cooldowns and durations, which helps with consumable management. The ping system expands so you can ping your action bar or the Cooldown Manager directly, and even ping your own unit frames to share your health status with the group. Healers can share mana status the same way, and they can configure or hide the buffs shown on Raid Frames.
You can also link your Battle.net and Discord accounts to chat with your guild in or out of the game, whether you are coordinating a raid run or looking for PvP partners.
Housing updates: Blueprints, Pet Beds, and higher house levels
Player Housing gets a major round of additions. Blueprints let you save and share your builds, and codes can be shared cross-region (excluding China) for other players to import.
- Blueprints cover the whole house, the interior only, the exterior only, or a single room, with up to 50 save slots plus 10 auto-save slots.
- Importing shows required rooms, decor, and the budget needed, and handles dyed items carefully rather than overwriting them.
- A new “Export” house permission (default no one) controls who can import your build, and a Reset button can clear the whole house or just the interior or exterior.
- Pet Beds let noncombat pets live in your home, up to 10 indoors and 5 outdoors, with indoor pets set to Stationary or Roaming.
- Houses can now reach level 12, the entry room can move anywhere including other floors, and new Artisanal Rooms and dye colors are available.
Four new Neighborhood Endeavors also arrive for the Amani trolls, kobolds, Ohn’ahran centaur, and tortollan.
Season 2 Prey, PvP, and a hidden pet
When Season 2 opens on August 18, the “A Slithering Threat” questline begins as Nightmare Mode returns with four serpent-themed targets across The Coiled Isle. You can collect Ossified Relics to light Haunted Braziers and summon Ral’kala for unique rewards, and a permanent Nightmare Mode can be toggled on for a harder zone. The Season 2 Prey Journey track adds new decor, cosmetics, and mounts.
On the PvP side, Training Grounds now includes 3v3 Arenas against bots, reachable from the Player vs. Player tab in the Group Finder. Battlegrounds also apply 20% reduced healing received, and players are no longer affected by knockback while under Fear and Disorient. Many movement-speed reductions were cut by roughly a tier in PvP combat.
Patch 12.1 also adds a hidden companion pet based on Jimothy the short-spined raccoon. It will be found in-game rather than sold in the Blizzard Store, though exactly where players can discover it has not been detailed.
You will know the update has taken hold once maintenance ends on August 11 and you can log in to see the 25% higher health pool, the new interface tracking, and access to The Coiled Isle. The raid, Mythic+ keys, and Bountiful Delves stay locked until Season 2 arrives the following week.
