Ghost Recon Wildlands: What the Future Soldier Outfit’s Optical Camo Does

The suit cloaks you when you crouch or go prone, but the effect is cosmetic and does nothing for stealth.

The Future Soldier outfit brings the high-tech look of Ghost Recon Future Soldier into Wildlands, complete with a shimmering optical camo effect that kicks in when you go low. It looks like the personal cloaking device from the original game, and that is exactly the problem. In Wildlands, the effect is skin-deep.

Quick answer: Crouch or go prone while wearing the Future Soldier outfit and the suit’s optical camo turns on automatically. It stays active until you stand up, even while firing a suppressed weapon, but it does not hide you from enemies who can see you and does not change how fast you get spotted.

How the cloak triggers

The optical camo is tied entirely to your stance. Drop into a crouch or go prone and the suit shimmers into its semi-transparent state on its own. There is no button to press and no meter to manage.

Two details set it apart from most cloaking tech in the series. The effect holds while you fire a suppressed weapon, and it stays on indefinitely. It only switches off when you stand back up and start moving upright.

Why it doesn’t make you invisible

The cloak is a visual flourish and nothing more. Enemies still see you if you are out in the open and within their line of sight, exactly as they would in any ordinary outfit. The camo does not shorten the window before a guard notices you either.

A direct comparison makes this clear. Wearing the Future Soldier set versus a regular outfit against an enemy inside 20 meters produces no meaningful difference in how long it takes to be spotted. If you are buying it hoping for a stealth edge, that edge is not there.

The same goes for the optical camo backpack earned from the Operation Silent Spade mission, which produces an identical cloaking shimmer when you crouch. It offers little to no tangible stealth benefit in practice.

Future Soldier cloak versus the original game

In Ghost Recon Future Soldier, optical camouflage genuinely lowered your visibility, rendering the wearer nearly invisible while crouched or prone and disengaging on sudden movement. Wildlands borrows the appearance without the mechanical payoff.

How to get the Future Soldier outfit

There are two routes to the outfit. It normally sits in the in-game store’s catalog, and since the Last Rites update removed the store’s daily rotation, you can find it in one of the store tabs at any time using Credits. The pack traditionally bundles the Future Soldier outfit, a themed ACR, and a matching patch.

The outfit is also being given away free during the anniversary celebration. Log into the game before August 13, 2026, and it is added to your account. Because it arrives as a reward rather than a purchase, it will not appear in the store during the giveaway, but you can view it in the rewards menu on the Ubisoft Club screen.

How to equip it

Open the Character menu and select the Edit Appearance button in the lower-left.
In the character customization screen, go to the Costumes tab. The Future Soldier outfit is listed there.

Select it to wear it. Because it is a costume, you cannot fine-tune it or mix its individual pieces with other cosmetics. You wear it as a complete set.

Note: To confirm the cloak works after equipping, crouch or go prone in the field and watch for the semi-transparent shimmer across your character. That visual is the whole feature. Treat it as a look, not a tactical advantage, and keep relying on cover, suppressors, and positioning to stay hidden.
