The Exorcist Badge in PEAK comes down to one clean action. You need to catch the large Big Ghost inside an active source of fire before it reaches you and explodes. The whole thing lives in the GLOOM biome, the swampy area buried under the mist that sits after ALPINE.
Quick answer: In GLOOM, lure the Big Ghost right up against a stone Belltower, then hold E on the BELLTOWER [E] RING prompt the moment it drifts beside you. The ghost catches fire, burns up, and the Exorcist Badge unlocks.
What you need before attempting the Exorcist Badge
Two things matter here. You have to be in the right biome, and you have to target the right ghost. The small, smiling ghosts floating around the swamp are ambient decoration for this task. Only the Big Ghost, the large round one with black eyes and purple energy at its base, counts toward the badge.
| Requirement | Detail |
|---|---|
| Biome | GLOOM, the swamp below the mist that comes after ALPINE |
| Target | The large Big Ghost, not the small floating ghosts |
| Burn source | A stone Belltower, a lit Candlestick, or a Faerie Light |
| Extra hazard | Constant sleep damage while standing in the swamp |
The swamp deals steady sleep damage the whole time you are down there. If your health is already low, that pressure can end your run before the ghost does, so move with a plan rather than wandering.

The Belltower route is the most reliable because it does not depend on finding a specific item first. Five Belltowers are scattered across the GLOOM map, and any of them will do the job. Ringing one also creates a safe patch of light in the mist.
BELLTOWER [E] RING prompt is showing before anything else happens.E only when the Big Ghost is directly beside the tower. A yellow progress ring fills around the prompt, and once it completes, the tower fires a purple flame from its top.Tip: Face the tower and secure the prompt before you bait the ghost in. If you lose the interaction while it closes on you, the chime can finish a beat too late.
If you want to be efficient, activating all five Belltowers in one expedition also earns the separate Belltower badge, so you can stack progress on the same run.
Alternate burn sources: Candlestick and Faerie Light
You do not have to use a Belltower. Any active flame that touches the Big Ghost will trigger the burn. Two portable options exist, and both double as protection against the swamp’s sleep damage while lit.
| Source | Where it comes from | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Belltower | Five fixed towers across GLOOM | Ring with E as the ghost enters range; no item needed |
| Candlestick | Random spawns inside Luggage in the swamp | Lights for about 30 seconds, stops sleep damage, and burns the ghost |
| Faerie Light | Ancient Idols or Ancient Luggage | Its flame radius burns the ghost that passes into it |
With a Candlestick, wait for the ghost’s sound cue, light the candle, and either hold your position or move the flame into the ghost’s path during that short active window. With a Faerie Light, let the Big Ghost pass into the flame radius rather than treating it purely as a repel tool. If you already have a portable flame in hand, use it instead of forcing a tower setup. The goal never changes. Get the Big Ghost into a live flame before it slams into you.
How to confirm the badge unlocked
You will know it worked the instant the Big Ghost catches fire and vanishes into the flame. That disintegration is the trigger, and the Exorcist Badge registers on the spot. In your badge and outfit collection, Exorcist also unlocks the Frog Hat cosmetic.
Why the burn fails to trigger
- You burned a small ghost. The badge only counts the large Big Ghost, so ignore the little floating ones.
- You rang too early. If the ghost is still outside the flame’s reach when the chime fires, the burn is wasted.
- You rang too late. Waiting until the ghost touches you means it explodes and deals heavy cold damage instead of burning.
- Sleep damage overwhelmed you first. If the swamp status is snowballing, switch to a shorter bait near a tower or light a Candlestick to hold the line.
Keep your character close enough to the base that the ring prompt stays available the entire time the ghost approaches, and the timing window becomes far more forgiving. Once you nail one clean burn, the Exorcist Badge is done and you can move on to the rest of GLOOM.
