Hunger in PEAK quietly shrinks your maximum stamina the longer you climb, so knowing what to eat, when to cook it, and which berries will poison you can decide whether you reach the summit. Food is scattered across every biome, from coconuts on the shore to eggs near the volcano, and each item carries its own hunger value, weight, and side effect.
Quick answer: Cook food whenever you can to double its hunger reduction and add Reserve Stamina, and never eat green, spotted, or non-smooth variants raw unless you want a Poison timer.
How cooking changes every food value
Cooking does two concrete things. It doubles the hunger a food restores, and it grants Reserve Stamina. Items that give no Reserve Stamina raw gain a flat +10 when cooked, while items that already give some receive a 50 percent increase. Cooking a poisonous berry before you eat it also removes the Poison entirely.
You can cook at Campfires found at the top of each biome, at Portable Stoves pulled from luggage that last 60 seconds, on the burning airplane wing, or in Caldera hot spots near lava. Watch the timing, because food passes through four stages.
| Stage | Result |
|---|---|
| Cooked | Double hunger reduction, plus +10 or +50% Reserve Stamina |
| Well-Done | No extra benefit over Cooked |
| Burnt | Loses 5 hunger reduction from the Cooked value |
| Incinerated | Adds +10 Poison per overcook cycle and becomes unusable |
Note: some non-food items react badly to heat. Dynamite, stoves, cannons, heat packs, and oil lanterns explode when cooked, and balloons pop instantly.

Add to Google Preferences →Shore and Tropics foods
The early biomes hold the widest spread of berries and the reliable Half-Coconut, which you get by throwing whole Coconuts against trees to split them. The Tropics add the high-value Kingberries and Berrynanas, plus Honeycomb harvested from Beehives at the cost of angry, poisonous bees.

| Food | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Biome | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Half-Coconut | 10 / 20 (+10) | 5 | Shore, Tropics | Removes 30 Heat; 2x per Coconut |
| Red Crispberry | 5 / 10 (+10) | 2.5 | Shore, Tropics | — |
| Yellow Crispberry | 5 / 10 (+10) | 2.5 | Shore, Tropics | — |
| Green Crispberry | 5 / 10 (+10) | 2.5 | Shore, Tropics | 10 Poison if eaten raw |
| Scorchberry | 10 / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | Inflicts 25 Heat |
| Purple Kingberry | 30 (+35) / 60 (+52.5) | 5 | Tropics | — |
| Yellow Kingberry | 30 / 60 (+10) | 5 | Tropics | 25 Poison if eaten raw |
| Green Kingberry | 30 / 60 (+10) | 5 | Tropics | 5 Poison if eaten raw |
| Yellow Berrynana | 15 / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | Leaves a peel after eating |
| Pink Berrynana | 15 / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | 15 Poison raw; leaves a peel |
| Blue Berrynana | 30 / 60 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | Leaves a peel after eating |
| Brown Berrynana | 15 (+10) / 30 (+15) | 2.5 | Tropics | Leaves a peel after eating |
| Yellow Clusterberry | 10 (+10) / 20 (+15) | 2.5 | Tropics | — |
| Red Clusterberry | 10 / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | Heals 20 Injury |
| Black Clusterberry | 20 / 40 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | — |
| Honeycomb | 10 (+50) / 10 (+75) | 2.5 | Tropics, Roots | 4x per Beehive; bees poison you |
| Tick | 20 / 40 (+10) | 2.5 | Tropics | Jumps on you in bushes; safe to eat |
| Medicinal Root | 5 / 10 (+10) | 2.5 | Shore, Tropics, Mesa, Roots | Removes 10 Injury, 25 Poison, 25 Spores |

Honeycomb is one of the best stamina sources in the run, since its Reserve Stamina bonus is enormous relative to its weight. Purple Kingberry is the standout hunger-and-stamina berry with no downside, while the Yellow and Green varieties trade that safety for a raw Poison hit.
Roots biome foods
The Roots biome is defined by Shroomberries and the Mandrake. Every Shroomberry inflicts a small 5 Spores when eaten and then rolls a random status effect, so the color tells you whether that roll leans good or bad. The Mandrake appears when you uproot a Medicinal Root and it turns out to be a Mandrake instead, and cooking it is the only way to strip 25 Curse.

| Food | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mandrake | 10 / 20 (+52.5) | 2.5 | Hides Stamina 60s if raw; cooked removes 25 Curse |
| Red Shroomberry | 10 (+5) / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | 5 Spores; random positive effect |
| Yellow Shroomberry | 10 (+5) / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | 5 Spores; random positive effect |
| Green Shroomberry | 10 (+5) / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | 5 Spores; random negative effect |
| Blue Shroomberry | 10 (+5) / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | 5 Spores; random negative effect |
| Purple Shroomberry | 10 (+5) / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | 5 Spores; random effect |
Alpine and Mesa foods
The Alpine biome is where heat and status management matter most. Winterberries strip Heat and heal, while Napberry is a full reset button that clears everything except Curse but replaces your entire stamina bar with Drowsy, knocking you out for a while. In the Mesa, Prickleberries help against the sun at the cost of Thorns, and the Scorpion can only be eaten after it is cooked.

| Food | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Biome | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Orange Winterberry | 15 / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | Alpine | Removes 30 Heat |
| Yellow Winterberry | 30 (+35) / 60 (+52.5) | 2.5 | Alpine, Mesa | Removes 30 Heat, heals 20 Injury; in Mesa only near Capybaras |
| Napberry | 100 / 200 (+10) | 2.5 | Alpine | Clears all status except Curse; fills stamina with Drowsy |
| Red Prickleberry | 15 / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | Mesa | 10 Thorns; removes 10 Heat |
| Gold Prickleberry | 15 (+5) / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | Mesa | 10 Thorns; removes 10 Heat; heals 10 Injury |
| Scorpion | — / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | Mesa | Cannot eat raw; cook with fire or Dynamite; sting inflicts 50–100 Poison |
Caldera and Gloom foods
Natural food thins out near the top of the mountain. In Caldera, breaking a Big Egg produces an Egg, with a small chance to yield a Cooked Bird instead. The Gloom biome has The Early Worm, a weightless item whose only job is to clear Drowsy.

| Food | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Biome | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Egg | 15 / 30 (+10) | 5 | Caldera | Made by breaking a Big Egg |
| Cooked Bird | — / 40 (+10) | 10 | Caldera | 10% chance from a Big Egg |
| The Early Worm | 5 / 5 | 0 | Gloom | Removes 100 Drowsy |

Plan ahead before the final stretches. There are no natural food sources in The Kiln, which follows Caldera, or in The Citadel, which follows Gloom, so carry supplies into both.
Mushrooms found across biomes
The same four mushrooms appear in the Shore, Tropics, Roots, and Mesa. Each has a safe and a dangerous variant, and eating the wrong one raw applies a heavy Poison. Cook them to remove the risk, or check the shape and surface before eating.
| Mushroom | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Poison variant |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bugle Shroom | 15 / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | 20 Poison if non-smooth |
| Button Shroom | 10 / 20 (+10) | 5 | 30 Poison if spotted |
| Chubby Shroom | 10 / 20 (+10) | 2.5 | None |
| Cluster Shroom | 5 / 10 (+10) | 2.5 | 40 Poison if non-smooth |
Campfire foods
Campfires can spawn a Marshmallow or a Hot Dog. The Marshmallow appears more often at 62.5 percent, while the more filling Hot Dog shows up 37.5 percent of the time and can also occasionally replace cattail plants in the Gloom.
| Food | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Spawn |
|---|---|---|---|
| Marshmallow | 15 / 30 (+10) | 2.5 | 62.5% at Campfires |
| Hot Dog | 30 (+20) / 60 (+30) | 2.5 | 37.5% at Campfires |
Packaged food from luggage
Packaged items are looted from Luggage scattered along the climb, and several double as utility tools rather than pure hunger fills. Airline Food is the most efficient single meal, while Energy Drink and Sports Drink handle Drowsy and Heat. Be aware that eating any packaged food voids the Naturalist Badge for that run.

| Food | Raw / Cooked (Bonus Stamina) | Weight | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Airline Food | 40 (+40) / 80 (+60) | 5 | — |
| Big Lollipop | 5 / 10 (+10) | 2.5 | Temporary infinite stamina; 32.5 Drowsy raw, none if cooked |
| Energy Drink | — / (+10) | 2.5 | Removes 100 Drowsy and 30 Heat; speed boost; 25 Drowsy after; explodes if cooked |
| Fortified Milk | 5 / 5 | 2.5 | Removes 50 Heat; 15s status immunity (25s cooked); heals skeletons 100 Injury |
| Granola Bar | 15 (+20) / 30 (+30) | 2.5 | — |
| Scout Cookies | 10 (+10) / 20 (+15) | 5 | 4 total uses |
| Sports Drink | (+30) / (+45) | 2.5 | Removes 200 Heat |
| Trail Mix | 10 (+10) / 20 (+16) | 2.5 | — |
Mystical food from ancient caches
Mystical items come from Ancient Luggage and from Ancient Statues when no ghost scouts need reviving. Unlike packaged food, they do not block the Naturalist Badge. Both explode when cooked, so treat them as consumables, not cooking targets.
| Food | Hunger | Weight | Effect |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cure All | 20 (raw) | 2.5 | 3 uses; removes all negative effects including Curse; explodes if dropped or cooked |
| Pandora’s Lunchbox | Random | 2.5 | 3 uses; randomizes your status effects; explodes if cooked |
Poisonous foods and how to counter them
Several foods hurt you if eaten raw. Green Crispberry, Yellow and Green Kingberry, Pink Berrynana, and the spotted or non-smooth mushroom variants all apply Poison, and a live Tick or Scorpion sting does the same. In almost every case, cooking the item first removes the Poison before you eat it.
If you are already poisoned, eat a Medicinal Root to strip 25 Poison, or use a Cure All to wipe every negative effect at once. Keeping one of each in reserve is the simplest safety net for the deeper biomes, where a stray Poison timer during a hard climb can drain the stamina you need to reach the next Campfire.
