The second Hidden Mountain chapter adds cliffside exploration, two giant mechanical bosses, and a haunted survival mode for the Ghost Festival.

Where Winds Meet is heading up into the clouds. Heaven’s Threshold, the second chapter of the Hidden Mountain expansion, arrives on August 20 and pushes players past the mountain city into a fog-shrouded cliffside region filled with ancient machinery. It brings new story campaigns, two colossal iron bosses, a gear-driven dungeon, two mystic skills, and a solo survival mode tied to China’s Ghost Festival.

Quick answer: Heaven’s Threshold goes live on August 20 (UTC). You reach the new region by taking part in the community-wide Cloudtop Ascent building event, which gradually unlocks the area for everyone.

How to reach the Heaven’s Threshold region

The new area does not open on its own. Following the events of the first chapter, you leave the mountain base and start scaling the summits of Heaven’s Threshold, but the path opens through the community-wide Cloudtop Ascent building event. As players contribute, a large mountain region unlocks piece by piece, with vertical climbs, steep drop-offs, and crumbling ancient observatories to explore.

The story running through the region centers on a split among the mountain’s ancient craftspeople. Some want to keep their advanced engineering hidden from the outside world, while others want to use it to help people in need. That moral debate frames the campaigns and the new bosses you face.

Bosses, dungeon, and the Mirkvale campaign

The mechanical, steampunk-flavored combat that defined Hidden Mountain returns at a larger scale. Two colossal world bosses anchor the update, built by the mountain’s old inventors. Winning comes down to timing your hits so you strike their vulnerable joints in the moment their armor opens.

ContentWhat it is
Inkpincer ScorpionGiant iron world boss; strike its joints when the armor opens.
Cloud-Seizing SerpentSecond colossal mechanical world boss with the same timing-based weak points.
Evershift LabyrinthMulti-layered underground maze of rotating wooden gears and interlocking joints; fight security constructs while shifting floorboards to find the exit.
Campaign of MirkvaleStory campaign in an abandoned valley taken over by rogue blacksmiths; repair waterwheels and machinery with a young companion to learn why it fell silent.

Two new mystic skills

Combat gains two mystic skills with the chapter. Both give you new options against groups of enemies and lean on positioning rather than raw damage.

SkillEffect
Bursting NineArchery technique that fires a nine-arrow volley to slow and trap groups of enemies.
World to SwordChannels excess healing power into flying energy blades.

Reflection Temple and the other new modes

To mark China’s traditional Ghost Festival, the update adds Reflection Temple, a solo survival mode set in an eerie, haunted mountain shrine. You have to follow strict rules and uncover hidden clues to escape unpunished, which makes it more of a puzzle-horror challenge than a straight fight.

Two lighter modes round things out. Chasing with Kite is a high-speed racing mode with solo time-trials and online multiplayer. Pangolin Peddler has you setting up merchant trade routes between remote villages to earn rare rewards.

Where Winds Meet at Gamescom 2026

Everstone Studio and NetEase Games are bringing the game to Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, running from August 26 to 30. You can find the team in the public area at Hall 7.1, Booth B-050.

The hands-on demo covers the finale of the Hidden Mountain storyline and lets you try the Drunken Master combat style. The booth is styled as a “Ghostlight Market” with exclusive merchandise, plus a “wuxia-punk” stage show featuring human and robot cosplayers that mix futuristic tech with traditional martial arts looks.

You will know Heaven’s Threshold has arrived when the August 20 patch is live and the Cloudtop Ascent event appears in-game. Until then, the region stays locked, and the giant bosses and Reflection Temple only become available once the update goes out and the community starts opening the way up the mountain.
