Mortal Shell 2: How to Get the Baghead Secret Ending and Achievement

Bring Baghead nothing at his throne to trigger the hidden ending and unlock a rare Mortal Shell 2 achievement.

Bring Baghead nothing at his throne to trigger the hidden ending and unlock a rare Mortal Shell 2 achievement.

Baghead is a friendly, layabout brigand who sits on a stone throne in Mortal Shell 2, surrounded by followers wearing sacks over their heads. Talking to him and passing his simple “test” plays a short comedic cutscene, rolls the credits early, and awards the hidden “Baghead” achievement. It is one of the rarest unlocks in the game.

Quick answer: Baghead wants nothing. Sit with his followers, then bring him no items at all — pick up the Special Moonshine, hand it back, and keep answering “Yes” when he asks if you are really bringing him nothing.

Where to find Baghead

Baghead is at Desolate Peak, on a small island southwest of Gloomshade Grove. Reach it by taking the teleporter near the cliff. He sits on a throne overlooking a chasm, with a crowd of quiet followers gathered around him, directly in front of the entrance to the Illusionist’s Cache dungeon.

The Special Moonshine you will need sits on a wooden crate beside that same structure, next to the entrance to the Illusionist’s Cache. Note the crate’s position before you start, since you will pick the item up and put it back in the exact same spot.

The trick: give Baghead nothing

Baghead asks for “something special” that is easy to find but rarely enjoyed. The catch is that the answer is nothing. His early lines spell it out — he talks about the art of doing nothing and calls it the best gift of all. Handing over the Special Moonshine fails the test on purpose. You have to arrive empty-handed.

PromptAnswer
“You think you’re any different?”Yes
“You think this is what I want?” (with Moonshine)No
“You’re back and you have… nothing?”Yes
“This is your final chance.”Yes

How to trigger the Baghead secret ending

Speak to Baghead and exhaust his opening dialogue. He will eventually tell you to go sit and be quiet, which is your cue to leave him alone for a moment.
Sit down next to one of his followers using the interaction prompt and stay seated for a few seconds. Stand back up and talk to Baghead again.

When he asks “You think you’re any different?”, pick Yes. He will then say he wants something special and send you off to find it.
Pick up the Special Moonshine from the crate next to the Illusionist’s Cache entrance. Return to Baghead with it and, when he asks if this is what he wants, choose No.
Walk back to the crate and place the Special Moonshine down again using the interaction prompt. You should see a “-1 Special Moonshine” notification confirming you no longer hold it.
Return to Baghead empty-handed. Answer Yes when he says “You’re back and you have… nothing,” and Yes again to “This is your final chance.” He will be overjoyed that someone finally understands nothing.

Talk to Baghead one more time. A cutscene plays in which he passes his throne of nothing on to you and welcomes you into the group, followed by the game’s credits.

Confirming the achievement and returning to the game

You know it worked when the “Baghead” achievement pops, described as “You’ve mastered nothing, and this is your reward. Pretty pointless, eh?” It is held by only around 0.1% of players, so the unlock is a clear sign the sequence went through.

This ending has no lasting consequences. It does not push you into New Game Plus. After the credits roll and the main menu appears, select Continue and you will load back at your last checkpoint, ready to keep playing exactly where you were.

Why the ending might not trigger

  • You never sat with the followers before Baghead’s test, so he does not offer the challenge.
  • You are still holding the Special Moonshine — it must be placed back on the crate so your inventory shows the item removed.
  • You answered a prompt wrong. Say Yes to being different, No when offering the Moonshine, and Yes to bringing him nothing.

Once the answers line up and you return with an empty inventory, Baghead’s final conversation always leads straight into the cutscene. The whole detour takes only a few minutes, and since Continue drops you right back at your checkpoint, there is no reason not to grab this offbeat ending on your way through Fainweald.
