Terraria boss fights get much tighter when the usual movement keys are off the table. These challenge runs strip WASD, or the whole keyboard, and leave a grappling hook, a mouse, platforms, and whatever summons stay in the world after you go down.
Quick answer: The Twins died on a No-WASD run that used hook swings across a wide platform arena. Mouse-only Plantera failed to contact damage. A second No-WASD Plantera attempt killed the player first, then Queen Spider Venom finished the boss.
| Boss | Control limit | How it ended |
|---|---|---|
| The Twins | No WASD | Both eyes down, loot collected |
| Plantera | Mouse only | Player slain by contact damage |
| Plantera | No WASD | Player died, Venom still got the kill |
Movement limits used in the runs
No WASD removes walking, running, and normal jump input. The character still aims, fires, and grapples. Crossing the arena means firing a hook at a platform, pulling in, and releasing before the next burst of boss fire fills that space.
Mouse mode only is stricter. The same pointer has to move the character and aim weapons. That split is enough to lose tracking when a boss closes in, because you cannot strafe on keys while keeping the cursor on target.
Both rules still allow inventory work. Opening the bags mid-session is how ammo, hooks, and placeable pieces get lined up before the next pull.

The Twins open with the line “The Twins have awoken!” Spazmatism and Retinazer share the screen, and the arena is a long set of platforms built for hook travel rather than walking. A Hurtful Uzi handles the damage while the hook does the footwork.

Spazmatism is the first target. Its second phase leans on flamethrower bursts and cursed flames. The safe answer is a hook yank to a new platform before the fire cone lands, then another yank when the cone turns. Standing still is not an option, and neither is a normal dash.
After Spazmatism drops, only Retinazer remains. Its second phase is a rapid laser stream. Hook timing has to stay ahead of those lines, because there is no keyboard strafe to slip through a gap. Durendal also shows up on the bar during the same fight, so the loadout is not locked to the gun alone.

Retinazer going down triggers “The Twins have been defeated.” The ground then holds a Pair of Eyeballs and a Treasure Bag (The Twins). That bag is the clean check that both eyes counted as dead, not just one.
After the pickup, the inventory can flip back to placeable objects. An Obelisk in that bag is marked “Can be placed,” which is ordinary post-fight cleanup rather than part of the kill itself.

Why mouse-only Plantera failed
Plantera is fought in the Underground Jungle after a mechanical boss is already dead. The mouse-only attempt asks that same pointer to keep the character off the hitbox and keep shots on the boss. Those two jobs collide as soon as Plantera closes the gap.
Contact damage is the failure point. Plantera’s body hits hard enough that a late mouse dodge is a full death, not a chip. The run ends on the “You were slain…” screen, with coins on the floor and the boss bar still up.

Plantera No-WASD and the delayed kill
The retry puts WASD away again and brings the hook back. Queen Spider summons stay on the field so damage does not depend on the player surviving every tentacle. The Uzi remains on the hotbar while the jungle boss bar ticks down.

Phase 2 fills the arena with tentacles. Hook pathing gets crowded, and contact damage is still lethal. The player dies first. That is not the end of the fight, because the spiders keep attacking and leave Venom on Plantera.
A split second later the boss drops. The world prints “Plantera has been defeated!” even though the player is already dead. “Screams are echoing from the dungeon” follows the same kill, which is the usual world flag after Plantera goes down.
| On-screen line | What it confirms |
|---|---|
| The Twins have awoken! | Both eyes are in the fight |
| The Twins have been defeated | The No-WASD clear counted |
| You were slain… | The player died, boss may still be alive |
| Plantera has been defeated! | The boss died, even after a player death |
| Screams are echoing from the dungeon | The Plantera kill registered in the world |
The useful split is simple. Hook movement can carry a mechanical duo if the arena is wide enough. Mouse-only movement cannot outrun Plantera’s body. Summons can still close a jungle fight after the death screen, as long as Venom is already ticking.
