Fisch: How to Farm Bone Shard and Ancient Bone Fast

Bone Shard and Ancient Bone both come from the same corner of Fisch, which is what makes them fast to stack. Both materials drop off sharks in the Gloomy Zone, a dark trench inside The Deep, so a single fishing loop feeds two counters at once. Bone Shard is the item quests like Restoring LP-3 ask you to hand in, and Ancient Bone shows up alongside it as a rarer bonus find.

Quick answer: Dive into the Gloomy Zone in The Deep and fish only for sharks (Pacific Sleeper Shark, Bluntnose Sixgill Shark, Greenland Shark). Each catch can trigger an “Extra Find! Bone Shard!” and a rarer “Ancient Bone!” drop until your quest count is full.

Where Bone Shard and Ancient Bone drop

The Gloomy Zone sits deep inside The Deep, reached by descending through a dark trench past the common surface fish. It is the only spot where Bone Shard and Ancient Bone come from the same targets, so you never have to split your farming between two locations.

Sharks are the whole point of this zone. They carry both drops, and the game flags them as extra finds on top of the normal catch. Ordinary fish in the area do not give you what you need, so skip them and keep hunting the larger shark-type spawns.

How to farm sharks in the Gloomy Zone

Travel to The Deep and dive down into the trench that leads into the Gloomy Zone. Follow the objective marker down through the dark water until the surrounding creatures shift to the deeper spawns.

Ignore the common fish and lock onto sharks. If you want to confirm a spawn before committing, open the Bestiary and check that the fish, such as the Pacific Sleeper Shark, is listed as found in the Gloomy Crevice.
Reel each shark in through the catch minigame and watch the timed PULL prompt. Landing clean catches keeps the loop moving, and every successful shark is a chance at both bone materials.

Repeat the loop in place. Keep catching sharks until both the Bone Shard and Ancient Bone counts reach the total your quest needs.

Best equipment to speed up the grind

Sharks are heavy, so the faster you land each one, the faster the drops stack. The gear below cuts down the time spent fighting each catch.

GearWhy it helps
Strong fishing rodHigher stats bring in large sharks faster and hold up against their weight.
Harpoon gunLets you target and pull sharks quickly instead of waiting on a bite.
Trident StrikerSpeeds up shark farming in the same way, keeping the loop tight.

Tip: Aiming for perfect catches on top of good gear keeps each shark from wasting your time, which matters when you need dozens of drops.

Bone Shard only: Atlantic Dragonfish in the Lower Deep

If your quest only calls for Bone Shard and you do not need Ancient Bone, the Lower Deep gives you a second option. Fish for Atlantic Dragonfish there to pull Bone Shard without hunting sharks.

For anything that needs both materials, the Gloomy Zone stays the better all-around spot because it covers both counters in one place.

How to know a drop worked

When a shark gives you a Bone Shard, an on-screen banner reads “Extra Find! You just caught a Bone Shard!” with your running count next to it, such as (1/2). An Ancient Bone appears the same way as a “Rare Find! Ancient Bone!” message with its own tally, like (1/10).

Your quest tracker updates automatically as these land, so watch the counter, for example “Obtain 20 Bone Shard,” climb toward its target. Once the numbers match the requirement, you can turn the materials in to the quest NPC and move on. If your count is not moving, you are almost certainly catching non-shark fish, so switch targets back to the sharks in the Gloomy Zone.
