How to Use the Bat and Bear Traps in Steal An Egg (Roblox)

How baseball bats and bear traps force rival players to drop eggs, plus how the Pet Index upgrades your bat.

In Steal An Egg, the baseball bat and bear trap are the two tools that let you take an egg off another player instead of racing to a nest yourself. Both work the same way at their core. They knock the carrier out of control long enough for the egg to fall, giving you a window to grab it and run for the safe zone.

Quick answer: Hit a rival carrying an egg with your baseball bat to ragdoll and fling them, or drop a bear trap in their path to lock them in place for five seconds. Either action makes them drop the egg, which you can then pick up by pressing E.

What the bat and bear trap do

Both items exist for one purpose, which is to interfere with other players. A guardian defends its own biome, but rival players are free to attack you anywhere on the map, and these two tools are how that fight happens. The difference is in how they land the hit.

The bat is an active swing you aim at a player, while the trap is a placed object that waits for someone to step on it. Once either one causes a drop, the egg is loose on the ground and anyone nearby can claim it.

Using the baseball bat to steal an egg

The bat is best used the moment a rival is hauling a valuable egg back toward their base. A single connecting swing flings them away and forces the drop, which can be the whole difference between keeping an egg and losing it.

Watch for a player who is already carrying an egg. The bat only pays off when there is an egg on the line, so target someone mid-run rather than an empty-handed player.
Close the gap and swing the bat as you reach them. The hit ragdolls the player and flings them off course.
Move onto the dropped egg and press E to pick it up. From here you become the carrier, so keep moving toward your own safe zone before someone repeats the trick on you.

Upgrade your bat through the Pet Index

Your baseball bat is not fixed. It changes based on the Pet Index, and each biome has its own bat that unlocks once you complete that biome’s pets in the index. Fill out the Lake pets and you unlock the Lake bat, complete the Desert pets for the Desert bat, the Jungle pets for the Jungle bat, and so on into the later biomes.

The bat’s power scales with rarity, so the higher the rarity you complete in the index, the harder your bat hits. Because the bat is what you swing to knock other players and take their eggs, treating the Pet Index as a checklist quietly strengthens your ability to steal while you collect.

Placing a bear trap

The bear trap works passively. You set it on the ground, and any player who walks over it is held in place for five seconds. During that lock they also drop the egg they were carrying, which leaves it open for you to collect.

Traps earn their value in spots where players fight over the same eggs. Placing one along a common route back to base, or near a nest where a rare egg has spawned, catches carriers who are focused on running rather than watching the floor. When someone steps in, you have a five-second window to move in, grab the dropped egg, and leave.

Tip: Rare and Secret eggs are not limited to the highest biomes. One can spawn in a lower zone, and when it does, multiple players rush the same spot. That crowded moment is exactly where a well-placed trap or a timely bat swing decides who walks away with it.

Escaping after the steal

Taking the egg is only half the job. Once you are the carrier, every other player can now use their bat or trap on you, and the biome guardian will try to reclaim the egg if your speed is too low for the area. Guardians stop chasing the moment you cross into your safe zone, so head straight for it.

Speed is the underlying stat that makes all of this work. You raise it by training on the treadmill at your base, and higher treadmill upgrades give you more steps to train more efficiently. The faster you are, the more easily you carry a stolen egg past guardians and rival players on the way home.

How you know the steal worked

A steal is only complete when the egg reaches your base. Bring it back to your safe zone, place it in your pen, and let it hatch. Hatch times vary by egg, and rare eggs can take hours, with size and mutations also affecting how long it takes. Once it hatches, the pet goes into your pen and starts producing income every second, which is the payoff for the whole run.

Keep in mind that neither tool protects you from theft while you carry. The bat and bear trap are offensive by nature, so the safest steals happen when you can knock a carrier down, grab the egg, and reach your safe zone before another player turns the same tools back on you.
