The Ritual Thrusting Shield is one of the new armaments added in Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition, which arrived alongside the Nintendo Switch 2 release on August 28, 2026 and is sold separately as the Tarnished Pack on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox. It is a thrusting shield, meaning it counts as a weapon and a shield at the same time. Getting it is not a boss fight or a puzzle. It is a corpse pickup, but the corpse sits behind a fairly specific travel route.

Quick answer: Fast travel to the Below the Well Site of Grace in Siofra River, ride the Deep Siofra Well elevator up into Caelid, then ride north through the canyon to the Caelid Colosseum. The shield is on a corpse in the main hallway just inside the front doors, on the right.

Ritual Thrusting Shield stats and requirements

You need 15 Strength and 12 Dexterity to hold it, and it weighs 10.0. Both scaling grades sit at D. The skill is Shield Strike, the same skill carried by the other thrusting shields in the game.

The in-game description ties it directly to the arenas the route sends you to:

A “thrusting shield,” or combined weapon and shield. Enables the wielder to attack and guard simultaneously. An armament once used in rites of combat performed to honor the Erdtree, now lost to time.

How thrusting shields behave in combat

Thrusting shields are their own weapon category, first introduced in Shadow of the Erdtree. They let you swing and block in the same motion, so you are not toggling between an offensive and a defensive posture the way you would with a sword-and-board setup.

The timing is fixed and worth knowing before you commit to one. A light attack or a guard counter finishes in a block, so you are covered on recovery. A heavy attack starts with a block during its windup, so the guard comes out before the damage. Weapons in this class can also be retuned with Ashes of War if Shield Strike does not suit your build.

Ritual Thrusting Shield location: Route to the Caelid Colosseum

The shield sits inside the Caelid Colosseum, and the cleanest approach starts underground rather than on the surface. Below is the sequence from the Siofra River side.

Open the map and fast travel to the Below the Well Site of Grace, which is in the underground Siofra River region. This is the anchor point for the whole trip, so make sure you have already discovered it.

From the grace, head up the stone stairs toward the elevator platform. The path is short and straightforward from the Site of Grace.

Ride the elevator up to the Deep Siofra Well, which puts you on the surface in Caelid. If this is your first time using it, you will need to spend Stonesword Keys on the imp statue before the lift will move.
Summon Torrent and ride north through the canyon. Giant golem archers fire down at you along this stretch, and their arrows hit hard, so keep moving and weave rather than riding in a straight line.

Keep going past the giant jar landmark. The Colosseum comes into view shortly after, and its front doors are the entrance you want.
Open the main doors and step inside. An interaction prompt appears when you are close enough to push them open.

Follow the main hallway and look to the right. The Ritual Thrusting Shield is on a corpse propped up along that side. Interact with it to take the shield.

How to confirm you picked up the shield

The pickup banner names the item outright and marks it as new. After that, open the equipment menu and look under your right-hand armament slots. The Ritual Thrusting Shield will show 135 physical attack, 55 Guard Boost, and Shield Strike as its skill.

If the entry is greyed out when you try to equip it, your Strength or Dexterity is below the 15/12 requirement. You can still equip it, but you will take a penalty until those stats are met.

Why the route can fail

There are only a few places this trip actually breaks down, and none of them involve the shield itself moving.

  • No Below the Well grace: If you have never reached that Site of Grace in Siofra River, it will not appear as a fast travel option and you have no starting point.
  • Elevator will not move: The imp statue at the lift needs Stonesword Keys the first time through. Without them, the Deep Siofra Well route stays closed.
  • Dying in the canyon: The golem archers cover the corridor between the well and the Colosseum. Riding Torrent and staying unpredictable is the fix, not fighting them.
  • Walking past the corpse: The pickup is close to the entrance on the right side of the hallway, not deeper inside the arena.

Once the shield is in your inventory, the Colosseum itself is worth a second look. Touching the effigy of Marika inside opens PvP there, and this venue allows spirit ashes in battle, which is a decent place to test out how the attack-and-guard timing holds up against real players.
