Fisch: How to Spawn the Sei Whale Hunt With a Windset Totem

The Sei Whale is an Exotic catch in Fisch that only shows up once its hunt is running, and the hunt itself is tied to one thing: windy weather. That makes it one of the few whale-tier catches you can force on demand instead of waiting for a random server roll, as long as you are carrying the right totems.

Quick answer: Use a Windset Totem to switch the server to windy weather, which triggers the Sei Whale hunt. If nothing starts, use a Tempest Totem to change the weather first, then use the Windset Totem again.

What you need before starting the Sei Whale hunt

Stock up before you head out. The weather cycling is the part that eats totems, so bring more than you think you need — a single Windset Totem does not always land the hunt on the first use.

Watch for the weather to change and for the hunt to be called out on screen. If the wind kicks in and the hunt notification appears, you are done with the totems and can move straight to fishing.

If the hunt doesn’t start, cycle the weather with a Tempest Totem

This is the failure case almost everyone runs into. You use a Windset Totem, the weather goes windy, and no hunt appears. The fix is to break the weather state rather than spamming more Windset Totems into it.

Use a Tempest Totem to push the server into a different weather state. This clears the windy condition you were already sitting in.

Use the Windset Totem again immediately after. Coming back into windy weather fresh is what re-rolls the hunt.

Repeat that pairing until the hunt announces. Tempest first, Windset second, every time — using two Windset Totems back to back will not do anything if the weather is already windy.

Getting the hunt to start is only half of it. The Sei Whale has its own preferences stacked on top, and lining them up raises your odds noticeably. Windy weather is already handled by the totem, so the two you actually have to plan around are night and summer.

Rod setup for reeling in the Sei Whale

Bring the Master Rod if you have it. Failing that, any high-luck rod with a large progress bar works, and the size of that bar is the stat that matters most here — whale-class catches punish rods that give you a narrow window to work with.

Equip Krill before your first cast rather than after the hunt starts. Hunts are on a timer, and swapping bait mid-event costs you attempts you cannot get back once the whales are gone.

Note: A totem-forced hunt is not a guaranteed catch. The trigger is reliable, but the Sei Whale is still Exotic, so expect to spend several casts inside the event window before one hooks.
