Storage Hunters: Open World – How to Farm Gavels After the Spawn Nerf

Where to grind gavels now that spawn rates dropped, plus the luck caps and shop setup that keep gems flowing.

Gavel spawns in Storage Hunters: Open World got cut hard, so the old habit of grinding any auction and waiting for gavels to pile up no longer works. The rate fell from roughly 1-in-5 or 1-in-10 auctions down to about 1-in-50 or 1-in-100. To keep pulling gavels and Gavel Trophies at a usable pace, you now have to pick the right zone, control your Luck stat, and run a shop that turns those finds into gems and cash.

Quick answer: For Gavel Trophies, go to the Farmyard and cap your Luck at 70 to 71 in Settings, then loop the auctions there. For raw gavel farming after the nerf, run Cargo Ship and Back Alley instead, and keep your Luck under 100 if you want a Dirty Gavel to appear.

Best zones for gavels after the nerf

Cargo Ship and Back Alley are the strongest spots for general gavel farming right now. The Farmyard was hit by the nerf for regular gavels, so it is no longer the catch-all farm it used to be. The one exception is Gavel Trophies, which still cluster at the Farmyard when your Luck is capped correctly.

How Luck controls gavel and trophy spawns

Luck in this game does not increase the money value of auction items, even though the developer claim suggests it does. What Luck actually changes is what spawns. For gavels, a lower Luck stat opens the door to certain types, and for Gavel Trophies, a specific capped Luck value makes them appear far more often.

A Dirty Gavel only shows up when your Luck stays under 100. If your Luck is high, that variant will not spawn at all. Gavels still activate even when their specific Luck requirement is not met, but they trigger less frequently, so meeting the requirement is about consistency rather than a hard on/off switch.

Note: Weather and time of day change gavel activation rates. Moonlit conditions, for example, boost Void gavels. Line up the weather with the gavel type you want.

Farm Gavel Trophies fast at the Farmyard

Gavel Trophies are not just a $50 sell item. You place them in your shop before an auction to raise the chance of Mutations appearing on your finds, and each trophy rolls its own modifiers, such as +67% Silver or +123% Gold. Those modifiers are the whole reason to hoard trophies instead of selling them.

Drive to the Farmyard auction area. It out-produces the other zones for trophies, reportedly more than the rest combined.
Open Settings and use the Luck Limit slider to cap your Luck at around 70 to 71 instead of leaving it maxed. At that value the area floods with gavels, including silver ones.
Sweep the auctions, such as the Stable Garage trigger, and pay the small entry fee to cycle each one. Comb the space thoroughly for spawns.
Repeat the loop. Expect more trophies here per 5 to 15 minutes than at Back Alley, Junkyard, or Shipyard.
If spawns thin out, switch to your max Luck or a nearby cap until you find the value that performs best on your account.

The 70 to 71 cap is the reliable baseline, but spawns carry randomness and the sweet spot can shift per account. These are worth testing:

Luck capUse
70–71Main recommendation; heavy, reliable gavel spawns
60–70Solid alternative baseline
71–80Still strong trophy frequency
100, 125, 151Optional hot spots to test
220, 230, 235, 240Higher optional caps some players report as trophy-heavy

Test one cap for a few runs, count how many gavels you pull, then compare. This is a strong repeat route, not a guaranteed infinite farm.

Placing trophies and scoring their rolls

A trophy sitting in storage does nothing. Place it in your shop before you start an auction so the Mutation boost is active. The effect stacks, so fill every trophy slot your shop capacity allows to compound your odds of high-multiplier Mutations like Void or Secret.

When deciding which trophies to keep, weigh the modifier rolls rather than the base value. Multiply each modifier percentage by that Mutation’s value multiplier and add the results. A trophy with +67% Silver and +123% Gold scores (67 × 2) + (123 × 4) = 626. Keep the trophies that push your highest-value Mutations and shelve the weak rolls.

Placing your first trophy also unlocks the “Place a Gavel Trophy” achievement, which grants 5 Gems once.

Turn finds into cash and gems

Business Bay, Cargo, and Beach yield similar money, so pick the one closest to your loop. To keep cash moving, set your item sell rate to 10% so inventory clears fast while profit stays steady, run a solid gavel setup, and lean on the NPC seller.

Gems come from a shop that runs on tips, not from random luck. Anything that raises your tip chance is the strongest lever, so equip tip chance accessories and keep every shelf stocked, since an empty shelf earns zero tips.

Mint itemsNever quick-sell; they give a guaranteed tip through your store

MuseumDrop an item in, collect every hour for a chance at diamonds
QuestsSome drop around 60 diamonds in one go
Overnight AFK sellingFull shelves plus a 60–70% assistant price builds tips while away

For active sessions, set the assistant price to 30–40% so items sell quickly. For overnight AFK, raise it to 60–70% so your stock lasts through the night. Once you reach about $100,000 net worth, the Time Capsule behind the Shopping Mall adds a time Mutation to an item for 100 Gems, but it works only once per item, so save it for something worth the investment.

Storing spare gavels and dodging police raids

Keep unused or extra gavels in your Clubhouse in case the gavel system for clubhouses gets re-enabled. If a police raid hits, a fast vehicle makes escaping simple, so just drive out rather than trying to fight it.

Mistakes that slow the farm

  • Leaving Luck maxed while farming trophies, which thins the dense Farmyard spawns.
  • Grinding Junkyard or Back Alley for trophies when those zones are better for other item types.
  • Selling useful trophies for their $50 base when a strong modifier roll is worth far more in your shop.
  • Assuming trophies raise your Luck stat; they only affect Mutation chances.
  • Quick-selling mint items, which throws away their guaranteed tip.
  • Ignoring your shop’s trophy capacity, since a trophy you cannot place gives no benefit.

Treat the nerf as a nudge toward tighter routing rather than a wall. Cap your Luck for trophies, run Cargo Ship and Back Alley for regular gavels, stack tip chance and full shelves for gems, and the numbers still climb, just through a system instead of chance.
