Soulrift is a boss-fighting game where your character choice shapes every run. Each of the 11 playable characters brings a distinct kit built around melee DPS, ranged damage, healing, or team utility, and the right pick can make the difference between clearing a boss quickly or stalling out. The ranking below sorts the full roster so you know where to spend your Souls and which quest unlocks are worth chasing.
Quick answer: Sunder, Raiden, Lumina, Nyx, and Clockwork sit at the top for raw damage, flexibility, and utility. Cross and Zephyr, the two starters, are the weakest picks once you can afford or unlock alternatives.

Add to Google Preferences →S tier: highest damage, utility, and flexibility
The top tier covers the characters that define strong boss runs. Sunder leads on raw close-range damage with the highest base health in the game at 125 HP, and it unlocks from the shop for 1,000 Souls, making it the best value pick for pure DPS.
Raiden is the most versatile option, mixing heavy melee and ranged abilities with a grappling hook for mobility. At 110 HP it can hold its own, though its 4,000-Soul price makes it a long-term goal. Lumina fills the sniper role with long-range, high-damage abilities that trade for longer cooldowns, and costs 2,500 Souls.

Nyx is a close-range dagger DPS with a Blood meter that fills during a fight and unloads massive burst damage on bosses when triggered. Despite a fragile 80 HP, that payoff earns a top spot. Nyx unlocks by completing the Greater Heights quest. Clockwork rounds out the tier as the best utility support, handing out acceleration, immunity, and movement boosts to the team, and unlocks through the Awakening quest.
A tier: strong specialists and support
These characters are reliable and cover key roles, but each has a clearer limitation than the S-tier picks. Scar deals fire-based AoE and applies a burn that ticks damage on bosses over time, sitting at 105 HP and unlocking via the Burning Soul quest.
Reviva is the dedicated support, providing constant healing and the ability to revive teammates, which makes it valuable in tougher runs even with a low 80 HP. It is the cheapest shop unlock at 250 Souls. Crystal centers on ice and snow with multiple AoE moves plus short- and long-range options at 100 HP, unlocked through the Tundra Menace quest. Ricochet fires at extremely high speed for low per-hit damage but carries one of the most versatile kits in the game, costing 1,500 Souls at 90 HP.
B tier: the starter characters
Cross and Zephyr are the two characters you start with, so they are always available at no cost. Cross is a ranged DPS armed with lasers and grenades at 100 HP. Zephyr is a melee swordsman with fast attacks and ranged slashing moves at 110 HP.

Both are perfectly functional for early bosses and learning the combat system, but they lack the burst, range, or team support that pushes higher picks up the list. Treat them as your bridge until you can afford a shop character or clear a quest unlock.
Character stats and how to unlock each one
There are two ways to add characters to your lineup. You buy Reviva, Sunder, Ricochet, Lumina, and Raiden with Souls in the shop, and you unlock Clockwork, Crystal, Nyx, and Scar by finishing a specific quest. The table below lists base health and the exact requirement for every pick.
| Character | Base HP | How to unlock |
|---|---|---|
| Zephyr | 110 | Starter |
| Cross | 100 | Starter |
| Reviva | 80 | Shop, 250 Souls |
| Sunder | 125 | Shop, 1,000 Souls |
| Ricochet | 90 | Shop, 1,500 Souls |
| Lumina | 90 | Shop, 2,500 Souls |
| Raiden | 110 | Shop, 4,000 Souls |
| Clockwork | 90 | Awakening quest |
| Crystal | 100 | A Tundra Menace quest |
| Nyx | 80 | Greater Heights quest |
| Scar | 105 | A Burning Soul quest |
You earn Souls by defeating bosses, and you can raise the difficulty on the loading screen for larger rewards. Once you have enough, the shop unlock is instant. Quest characters require completing the named quest before they appear in your roster.

If you are just starting, focus on Sunder as your first shop purchase for its damage and health, then work toward Raiden for flexibility. Reviva and Clockwork are the picks to keep on hand for organized team runs, since a healer and a buff support smooth out the harder bosses. Cross and Zephyr will carry you until then. This ranking reflects the current 11-character roster; expect placements to shift as new characters and balance changes arrive.
