Anime Expeditions: How to Get and Evolve Head Captain (Yamamoto)

Everything you need to pull the Mythic Burn unit from the Summer Capsule and turn it into Head Captain (Char).

Everything you need to pull the Mythic Burn unit from the Summer Capsule and turn it into Head Captain (Char).

Head Captain is a Mythic Burn specialist in Anime Expeditions, modeled on Genryusai Yamamoto from Bleach. It applies Burn to any enemy that walks into its range, and that Burn can stack without a cap. Its evolved form adds an Active Ability that hits everything in range for heavy damage, which makes it a strong pick against bosses despite a long cooldown. Getting it comes down to a limited-time capsule and a low pull rate, so knowing exactly where to farm the currency matters.

Quick answer: Buy Summer Capsules from the Tidal Siege Event shop for 100 Sand Dollars each and open them for a 0.25% chance at Head Captain. Farm Sand Dollars through the Summer Calendar, Tidal Siege quests, and Summer Fish Fest quests.

How to get Head Captain in Anime Expeditions

Head Captain is a reward from the Summer Capsule, which was added in Update 2.0. The capsule is a limited-time item sold in the Tidal Siege Event shop for 100 Sand Dollars. Each capsule you open has a 0.25% chance to give the unit, so on average you should expect it after roughly 400 capsules. Because it is Mythic rarity, plan on stockpiling currency before you start pulling.

Sand Dollars are the event currency you need for capsules. Three activities supply them consistently, and the Fish Fest is the fastest source by a wide margin.

SourceHow it works
Summer CalendarLog in daily to claim rewards, which include Sand Dollars alongside Trait Crystals and Equipment Rerolls.
Tidal Siege questsComplete event quests, which mostly involve surviving Storms and fishing.
Summer Fish Fest questsFinish specific quests to earn up to 10,000 Sand Dollars, making this the best farming option.

Materials to evolve Head Captain into Head Captain (Char)

Head Captain evolves into Head Captain (Char), which unlocks a new Active Ability and reworked passives. You need the following materials to complete the evolution.

MaterialAmountWhere to get it
Sprite (Red)25Challenges
Sprite (Yellow)25Challenges
Sprite (Rainbow)1Challenges
Overgrown Beard1Tidal Siege Event shop (10,000 Sand Dollars)
Gold10,000Challenges

Sprites and Gold both come from clearing Challenges, so run those regularly while you save currency. The Overgrown Beard is the gated piece here. It only sells in the Tidal Siege Event shop for 10,000 Sand Dollars, which is the same currency you spend on capsules, so budget for both.

Open the Events page and switch to the Tidal Siege tab.
Press the Shop button to open the Tidal Siege Event shop.
Buy the Overgrown Beard for 10,000 Sand Dollars, then evolve Head Captain once you also have the Sprites and 10,000 Gold.

Head Captain (Char) passives and Active Ability

Every passive on the evolved form is built around the Burn debuff. Applying Burn, scaling its damage, and turning defeated enemies into Burn-spreading traps all feed into each other, and the North Active Ability provides the burst window for bosses.

East (passive)

  • Applies Burn to any enemy that enters this unit’s range.
  • Enemies with a Shield take an extra stack of Burn that can Pierce.
  • West (passive)

    • Burn from this unit stacks infinitely.
    • Burn deals 5% more damage per stack on enemies in range, up to a 150% cap.

    South (passive)

    • On a Takedown in range, turns the enemy into a Skeleton, up to a cap of 3.
    • Each Skeleton acts as a Path Trap. When an enemy touches it, the trap deals 25% of this unit’s current damage, explodes, and applies Burn within 3 range.
    • Each Skeleton summoned raises this unit’s damage by 5%.

    North (Active Ability)

    • On activation, deals 200% of this unit’s current damage to all enemies in range.
    • Deals an extra 100% damage split among all enemies in range, with a 120-second per-player cooldown.

Save the North ability for bosses or dense clusters, since the long cooldown means you rarely get more than one strong window per fight. In its evolved state, Head Captain (Char) sits in the S+ range of the current unit rankings.

The most efficient path is to farm Fish Fest quests hard for Sand Dollars, secure the Overgrown Beard early so a good capsule pull is not stuck waiting on evolution materials, and run Challenges in the background for Sprites and Gold. Because the Summer Capsule is limited-time, prioritize your Sand Dollar income before the event window closes.
