Breathedge 2: Where to Find Electrical Tape (Chapter 1)

Electrical Tape only comes off taped pipes, and you need the Cutter before a single roll is yours.

Electrical Tape only comes off taped pipes, and you need the Cutter before a single roll is yours.

Electrical Tape is one of the first materials in Breathedge 2 that refuses to show up on its own. Metal balls float around the train, Electronics sit inside red panels, and Ice is everywhere. Tape doesn’t drift past you. It stays wrapped around pipes on the edges of the station platforms until you have the one tool that can cut it free.

Quick answer: Craft the Cutter, then fly to the half-broken pipes sticking out from the platform edges and cut the taped sections. Each taped pipe gives two Electrical Tape, and there are at least four of them around the starting area. Boxes at points of interest can also hold tape.

Craft the Cutter before you go looking for tape

There is no shortcut here. The Cutter sits at the end of a short crafting chain, and every earlier tool exists to feed the next one. Skipping ahead just means floating next to a taped pipe with nothing to cut it.

Gather Metal x2 and craft the basic scrap tool from the crafting menu. Metal comes off the metal balls and barrels drifting near the train, and there are two chests behind the station platform if you want a quick start.
Use that tool to break down more Metal and some Plastic. Plastic sits on the pipes running along the sides of the platforms, so you can pick it up on the same loop.
Craft the Thumper, then take it out to the asteroids and craters in the Outskirts. The small Aluminum deposits on them are drillable, and the Thumper is the only thing that pulls them loose.
With enough Aluminum banked, craft the Cutter. That unlocks Electrical Tape, and it also unlocks Wires, Cardboard and Foam, so the trip pays for itself several times over.

Where the taped pipes are in the Outskirts

Leave the station through the main doors and look down along the outside edges of the platform. The pipes you want are the broken ones jutting out into open space, and the taped section is the giveaway. A bare pipe reads as “Pipe without duct tape” when you aim at it, while a wrapped one reads as “Duct-taped pipe” and offers a cut prompt.

Four or more of these pipes ring the starting area, spaced around the platform edges rather than clustered in one spot. At two Electrical Tape per pipe, a single sweep of the platform is usually enough to cover the early repairs without a second trip.

The debris fields nearby are the other reliable source. Fly out into the floating junk past the station and check the larger piles, since taped pipes are mixed into the wreckage there too. Crates and boxes scattered around points of interest occasionally hold tape as well, but that is luck rather than a plan.

How to confirm the tape actually went into your inventory

Equip the Cutter, float up to the wrapped section until the name pops up, and cut. The tape peels off the pipe and the pipe label switches to the untaped version, which is your confirmation that the node is spent. Two Electrical Tape land in your inventory per pipe.

Tape stacks generously, holding at least 40 in a single slot, so hoarding it costs you almost nothing in carry space. That makes it worth grabbing every pipe you pass rather than counting out exactly what the current repair needs.

If no prompt appears, the cause is almost always one of three things. You are holding the wrong tool, you are aiming at a pipe that was never taped, or you already stripped that one earlier. Hitting a pipe repeatedly with the scrap tool will not produce tape, and it burns durability and oxygen for nothing.

What Chapter 1 spends Electrical Tape on

The Interphone repair for Babe is the demand that catches most players out. Alongside Metal x5, Wires x2 and Aluminum x4, it wants Duct Tape x2, and the wiring itself is repaired from the platform floor directly in front of the Interphone.

The train repairs matter more than they look. Fixing the Nutri-Pack-O-Mat gives you food worth 25 hunger per Nutri-Pack, against six for a raw apple. The kettle is the bigger one, because without it you have no way to boil drinkable water and you are stuck looting water packs from crates or chewing ice. Ice is also what feeds your oxygen supply, so leaning on it for hydration puts pressure on both bars at once.

Tip: keep a small tape reserve instead of dumping it into optional side repairs. The main questline tends to ask for it with no warning, and running dry means another flight out to the platform edges.

Early materials and the tool each one needs

Once the Cutter is built, the fastest way to gather is to look for the interaction prompt rather than the shape of the object. Most Chapter 1 materials are still attached to something you have to break, cut, unscrew or drill.

Once you can spot a taped pipe from a distance, Electrical Tape stops being the material that stalls Chapter 1. Build the Cutter earlier than feels necessary, strip every wrapped pipe you fly past, and the kettle, the Nutri-Pack-O-Mat and the Interphone all come online without a scavenging detour in the middle of each objective.
