Close Call Trophy in Resonance: A Plague Tale Legacy

Bait the creature into a life source at the last moment and repeat it five times to unlock the trophy.

Bait the creature into a life source at the last moment and repeat it five times to unlock the trophy.

The Close call trophy asks you to survive the creature by a hair’s breadth five times. In practice, this means letting the giant creature get right on top of you and then reaching a light source at the last possible moment, which stops it in its tracks and destroys it. Hitting the creature directly with light does not count toward the total.

Quick answer: Stand near a lamp or life source, bait the creature until it is right behind you, then hit or reach the light just before it catches you. Each time it disintegrates on the light while chasing you, that counts as one escape. Do this five times.

What counts as a “close call”

The creature cannot enter the light. A close call registers only when you slip into a life source at the exact moment it is about to grab you, not when you calmly walk into safety with distance to spare. The margin matters, so you need the creature bearing down on you before you reach the light.

Attacking the creature with light on its own does not progress the trophy. You must let it chase you and disintegrate on the light while it is actively pursuing you.

Where to unlock it first

This is first obtainable in Chapter 6: What Lies Beneath, during the early section with the creature. You can also farm it later at one of the special lanterns in the latter chapters. If you want a reliable spot, Chapter 10: Parallel Paths includes a training sequence against the creature that works well for repeated attempts.

Everything except the Like a warrior trophy can be cleaned up through Chapter Select after finishing the story, so you can return to any of these encounters if you miss the trophy on your first pass.

The two-light method

The cleanest way to force a close call uses two light spots lined up directly ahead of each other. This makes the creature chase you in a straight line, so you can see how close it is without turning the camera.

Find two life sources or light spots positioned in a straight line, one behind the other. A lamp that the creature cannot extinguish is ideal for repeating the trick.
Attract the creature to the first light and let it get close. You want it drawn toward you, not sitting at a distance.
Just before that first light fades or before the creature reaches you, run straight to the second light. The creature will follow directly behind you, close enough that you can see its tentacles on screen.
Keep running straight into the light. The creature cannot catch you as long as you reach the light source, and arriving with it right behind you registers a successful escape.
Repeat the run another four times. Once you have five successful escapes, the trophy unlocks.

The lamp-stun method

If you are using the Chapter 10 training area, play as Theseus, find a lamp, and stay close to it. Let the creature approach, then strike the lit lamp to throw out bright sparks as it nears. The sparks stun the creature and force it back, and that stun counts as a successful escape.

The key is timing. Let the creature get close before you trigger the light. Stunning it too early, with plenty of space between you, is less likely to register as surviving by a hair’s breadth.

How to know it worked

The trophy notification appears on screen after your fifth successful close call. Until then, keep a running count in your head, since the game does not show a visible progress meter for it.

If attempts are not counting, the usual cause is escaping too early. Make sure the creature is actively chasing you and nearly on top of you when it hits the light, rather than shining light at it from a safe distance or reaching cover with a large gap between you.

Stacking it with Unpredictable

The Unpredictable trophy asks you to make the creature lose your trail 25 times by jumping over a gap while chased. That trophy tends to come naturally by the end of the game, but the two can overlap. A good spot for both is Chapter 6, Checkpoint 3 – False Hope, reached from Chapter Selection.

Right before the stairs with the lamps, turn around and jump between the gaps, then turn back and jump toward the light next to the stairs. Repeating this loop can build progress toward both Close call and Unpredictable in the same run.

None of this is missable. If you finish the story without the trophy, load any creature-chase encounter through Chapter Select, set up one of the light spots above, and grind out five clean escapes at your own pace.
