Anime Vanguards: How to Get Monarch on Gilgamesh and Goku Black

Familiar purchases, trait reroll sources, and the stacking effect that pushes Gilgamesh past 50 million damage.

Update 14.5 [Part 3] in Anime Vanguards added two units that work best as a pair: Gilgamesh (King of Heroes), a Holy-type carry, and Holy Deceiver (Dark), the Goku Black unit sitting at the top of the Event Pass reward track. Both scale hard with the Monarch trait, which is the single biggest damage modifier a unit can hold, and both need a familiar and Memoria attached before the numbers get interesting.

Quick answer: Level each unit to 60, then use Stored Trait with Instant Roll and burn Trait Rerolls until Monarch appears (+300% DMG, -10% SPA, +5% RNG, 1 placement limit). Equip the Sword of Rupture familiar on Gilgamesh from the Gold Shop for 500,000 Gold, and confirm the roll by checking the unit card in the Units menu, where Monarch replaces the previous trait tag.

What the Monarch trait changes

Monarch is not a small stat bump. It roughly quadruples a unit’s damage output while shaving attack delay, and it pays for that with a hard cap on how many copies of the unit you can place. On a single-target boss killer like Gilgamesh, that placement limit costs almost nothing.

ModifierEffect
DMG+300%
SPA-10% (faster attacks)
RNG+5%
Placement limit1 copy on the field

Monarch is one of the rarest results in the trait pool. Expect to cycle through common outcomes like Solar, Deadeye, Scholar, and Ethereal dozens or hundreds of times before it lands, which is why the reroll stockpile matters more than anything else in this build.

Where Gilgamesh and Holy Deceiver (Dark) come from

Gilgamesh (King of Heroes) is a Holy unit tied to the Key of Babylon quest. The chain starts with the Inactive Key of Babylon, dropped by the Kiro boss in Underground Church story stage 4 or Golden Castle legend stage 2. You feed the key 50,000 Gold, kill Heracles in Underground Church Act 2, Lilia in Underground Church Act 5, and Archer in Golden Castle Act 1, then defeat Gilgamesh in Golden Castle Act 3 to awaken it. The awakened key evolves base Gilgamesh into the King of Heroes form, alongside 5,000 takedowns, 15,000 Gold, and a stack of Essence materials including 40 Green, 15 Yellow, 15 Pink, 10 Red, 5 Blue, and 2 Rainbow Essence.

Holy Deceiver (Dark) sits at level 50 of the Event Pass, which you open from the lobby. The pass can be skipped outright with the Event Pass Bundle for 6,000 Robux, which unlocks the unit immediately. A cheaper Holy Deceiver Value Bundle runs 99 Robux and pays out Memoria Shards, Trait Rerolls, and Gems rather than the unit itself.

If you would rather grind the pass than skip it, levels come from clearing the update’s stages and modes, including the Warfront strategy mode and the Clatakiri rerun that shipped with Part 3.

Buy the Sword of Rupture familiar first

Part 3 added five familiars — Cannon Ball, Donut, Cell Phone, Monkey King’s Circlet, and Sword of Rupture. Two of them are sold outright by the Gold Merchant under the Familiars tab, so no drop luck is involved.

Monkey King’s Circlet1,000,000 Gold

The Sword of Rupture is the piece that turns Gilgamesh into a boss deleter. It carries a flat +8000% damage boost plus the Filled Arsenal, King Leading His People, and Gates of Babylon passives. Gates of Babylon is the important one: every attack adds an NP stack, and each stack raises his damage, with the stacks unloading into a single target once Enuma Elish is activated.

Gilgamesh also has an older Vanguard-rarity option, the Key of Babylon, obtained from events. It grants King’s Revival for +125% damage, a King of Heroes passive that applies a 30% Slow for 20 seconds to non-boss enemies and a 2-second Stun to bosses, and its own version of Gates of Babylon that caps at 30 NP stacks and drains them at one per second during Enuma Elish for 100% damage each.

Rolling Monarch with Stored Trait and Instant Roll

Feed the unit to level 60 before you start rerolling. Traits sit on the unit regardless of level, but a maxed unit is ready to test the moment Monarch lands, and you avoid a second trip back to the leveling NPC.
Open the Units menu and select Gilgamesh (King of Heroes) or Holy Deceiver (Dark). This is the screen where the current trait is shown on the unit card, and it is where you will confirm the result later.

Turn on Stored Trait so a good roll is held instead of overwritten, then enable Instant Roll to skip the reroll animation. That combination is what makes burning a 100-pack of Trait Rerolls take seconds rather than minutes.
Keep rolling until Monarch appears, then apply it. Because Stored Trait holds the best result, you can stop at any point and keep what you have banked.

Trait Rerolls come from several places, and stockpiling from all of them is cheaper than buying reroll packs with Robux.

Stat transfers and Memoria to finish the build

Monarch alone will not get you to the top damage numbers. Both units want Z+ tier stats, which you move over from a sacrificial unit rather than rerolling from scratch. Talk to the Manipulator and use the Stat Reroll/Transmute option, then pick a donor unit holding the Z+ rolls you want.

For Memoria, Gilgamesh runs well with Peak of Shinobi or Battle of the Strongest, while Holy Deceiver (Dark) uses Bow to Your God. Level the Memoria alongside the unit — a maxed Memoria contributes as much as several upgrade levels in a match.

How the Goku Black and Gilgamesh synergy stacks

The two units feed each other in two directions. Holy Deceiver (Dark) is classified as a Holy unit, so the Sword of Rupture’s familiar passive buffs his damage by 80% just for standing on the field with Gilgamesh. Goku Black in turn boosts Dragon Ball and Dragon Sphere category units and applies slow and stun effects on hit.

The bigger interaction is his active. Dark Dimensional Tear, on a 180-second cooldown, spawns clones for 30 seconds that attack and apply his on-hit effects. Because the ability is not toggleable, those clone hits register as Gilgamesh attacks for stacking purposes and push the Gates of Babylon NP counter up, with each stack adding 10% damage.

Gilgamesh’s own kit does the rest. King of the World grants status immunity, +30% damage, and -10% SPA, but subtracts 6% damage for every unit inside his range down to -30%, with Saber and Ishtar exempt. Myriad Treasures adds 1% range and damage per attack up to +35% and ignores half of enemy damage reduction. At upgrade 10 he gains the Unbound element and the Enuma Elish active, a 120-second global-cooldown skill that adds +350% damage to the Enuma Elish attack, hits everything in range, and extends range by 10%. On hit, non-boss enemies below 10% HP are killed outright.

Damage checks that confirm the setup works

Sandbox mode on Planet Namak is the fastest way to verify everything is attached correctly. Set Yen to maximum, place Gilgamesh, and watch the placement stats. A correctly built Monarch Gilgamesh with the familiar equipped lands around 2.66M base damage on placement with a 1.25x crit multiplier.

Upgrade him through the tiers and the attack names change as you go: Gyral Shredder, then Gates of Babylon, then Vortex Rupture, with Enuma Elish unlocking at upgrade 10. Layer in support buffs and the base attack figure climbs past 38M; firing Enuma Elish on top of that pushes a single hit above 70M. With the full buff package running, per-hit damage clearing 50 million is the sign the trait, familiar, stats, and Memoria are all applied.

If the numbers come in far lower, check three things in order. Confirm the trait tag on the unit card reads Monarch, confirm the Sword of Rupture is equipped rather than just owned, and count how many units are sitting inside Gilgamesh’s range — King of the World strips up to 30% of his damage when the board around him is crowded.

Once both units are maxed, they slot together as a two-unit core rather than two separate carries. Gilgamesh handles boss damage while Goku Black supplies the Holy buff, the slow and stun pressure, and the clone attacks that keep the NP stacks climbing between Enuma Elish windows.
