Anime Expeditions Update 2.0 adds nine units and evolutions, a new Portals game mode, a summer-themed Tidal Siege event, and a full fishing system built around a currency called Sand Dollars. The update went live on August 31, 2026, and it layers several separate progression tracks on top of the game’s usual wave-clearing loop.
Quick answer: Fish in any lobby or map pool with the Normal Rod to earn Sand Dollars and fishing XP, clear Tidal Siege waves for Summer Capsules, and craft Secret Portals from Tier 5 portal materials to unlock the new Lightning God and Sovereign units.
New units and evolutions in Update 2.0
Nine base units arrived with the update, most of them paired with an evolved form. Shark Fang (as Sharkfang) is the event Mythic tied directly to Tidal Siege, while Lightning God and Sovereign are locked behind their respective Secret Portals.
| Base unit | Evolution |
|---|---|
| Lightning God | Lightning God (Overcharged) |
| Sovereign | Sovereign (Djinn) |
| Jester | — |
| Kitsune | — |
| Head Captain | Head Captain (Char) |
| Rainman | Rainman (Forecast) |
| Sand | Sand (Alligator) |
| Shark Fang | Shark Fang (Abyssal) |
| Water Mage | Water Mage (Scholar) |
Jester comes from Battlepass Season 2. Head Captain and Rainman are among the units that drop from Summer Capsules, and Kitsune is tied into the Kitsune Bingo event. Evolution materials such as the Lightning Emblem, Cloud Disc, Desert Fruit, Overgrown Beard, and Spirit King’s Cloak are stocked in the Summer Shop.

Portals game mode and Secret Portal crafting
Portals is a new game mode built around five tiers of increasing difficulty. Fighting through these tiers rewards unit equipment and crafting materials. The Sky Ruins Portal is permanently available, so you can farm it at any time.
Tier 5 portals drop two key materials: Charged Dust (for Lightning God) and Djinn’s Treasure (for Sovereign). Both have a 4% drop chance with a 25-run pity, so a drop is guaranteed by the 25th run if you have not seen one sooner. Collect four of a material to craft that unit’s Secret Portal.
Defeating a Secret Portal awards a Secret Unit Augment, which raises the portal’s difficulty, improves reward chances, and advances pity progress. Materials for Sovereign’s Secret Portal can also be earned through the Tidal Siege event, giving you a second path to that unit.
Four portals were added in total: Lightning God’s Portal, Sovereign’s Portal, Sky Ruins Portal, and Summer Portal.
Tidal Siege event and Sand Dollars
Tidal Siege is the headline event mode. It runs on infinite waves, and every wave you clear pays out Sand Dollars along with Summer Capsules that contain limited units and skins. Sand Dollars are the event currency you spend in the Summer Shop.
The Mythic unit Sharkfang is obtained by activating the Sharktooth Conch during the event. Fishing works inside Tidal Siege too, where catches can produce buff fishes and deployable units on top of the usual rewards. Clearing waves also feeds materials toward Sovereign’s Secret Portal.
Tidal Siege has two ways to play. The default Event Mode supports fishing and AFK farming, while a separate Portal Mode can be purchased for 1,000 gems.

How to fish in Anime Expeditions
Fishing only works inside an active stage. If you try to cast from the lobby or outside gameplay, you will see the warning “You can only fish while playing!” Enter a stage with a fishing spot first, then follow the sequence below.

Fishing zones include the Lobby, Coral Kingdom, School Grounds, Flower Forest, and East Town. Catching fish across different maps fills out your Fish Index.

All fishing rods and how to unlock them
There are five rods. The Lucky Rod is the standout for unit hunting because its passive guarantees a Mythic catch every eighth fish, but it is also the rarest to obtain at a 1% chance from any catch.
| Rod | How to get it | Lure Speed / Control / Zone | Passive |
|---|---|---|---|
| Normal Rod | Unlocked for all players | 6–12 / 0.5 / 0.5 | None |
| Auto Rod | Reach Wave 150 in Tidal Siege | 12–24 / 0.7 / 0 | Higher Lure Speed, but skips the minigame |
| Advanced Rod | Purchase from the Summer Shop | 5–10 / 0.5 / 0.3 | None |
| Lucky Rod | 1% chance after any catch | 6–12 / 0.7 / 0.35 | Every 8th fish is guaranteed Mythic |
| Recycling Rod | Fish 100 times | 6–12 / 0.9 / 0.4 | Every 10 items sold, recycle a random item into a Legendary |
Fishing milestones and Event Ranks
Fishing feeds two separate reward tracks. Milestone XP unlocks 25 fixed rewards, while fishing XP moves you through six Event Ranks that each grant a title and a passive event-currency perk.
Note: The value of a session comes from these tracks, not just the fish on screen. A modest catch still advances rank perks, so building rank early makes later farming more efficient.
Event Rank perks
The rank track runs from Beginner to Grandmaster. Currency-gain perks scale up through the ranks, hitting +20% and +40% before reaching +100% at Grandmaster. One perk awards 250 event currency for winning a non-event game mode, capped at 5,000 per day, and a higher rank grants 10,000 event currency per day.

An efficient farming loop
Front-load fishing before a long event-currency session. Push to the next Event Rank first so its newly unlocked perk applies to everything you farm afterward. Then keep Tidal Siege in rotation as a separate combat farm for Sand Dollars and Summer Capsules.
The two activities complement each other. Fishing builds the rank-based bonuses and catch rewards, while wave clearing supplies repeatable combat drops and the capsule units and skins.
Other events, equipment, and cosmetics
Battlepass Season 2 added a fresh reward track that includes the Jester unit. Kitsune Bingo asks you to earn stamps across Story, Infinite, Challenge, Mastery, Raids, Portal, Tower, and Tidal Siege modes. The PhoenixVids Creator Spotlight lets you buy random units, merge them, and survive infinite waves.

Five events were added in total: Kitsune Bingo, Summer Fish Fest, Tidal Siege, Summer Calendar, and Creator Spotlight.
New equipment
Seven pieces of equipment joined the pool: Fiery Staff, Lightning Dagger, Poison Frog, Poison Hook, Spirit King’s Blade, Storm Trident, and Tideblade.

Quality-of-life changes
Update 2.0 also cleaned up several systems that affect everyday play. Accessories can now be equipped directly to your player, and the accessory inventory is expandable.
- Trait Swapping now supports a second slot, demonstrated through the Trait Reroll interface.
- Setting Presets and Auto Portal selection, including Auto Augment settings.
- Auto-Sell farms on the last wave, plus lootbox and capsule auto-sell settings.
- Lootbox and capsule rates are now viewable while opening.
- Reorganized item inventory and emotes displayable on your profile.
Between the Portals mode, Tidal Siege, and the fishing tracks, the fastest path through Update 2.0 is to rank up fishing early, farm Tier 5 portals to their pity limit for the new units, and treat Sand Dollars as your main event currency for the Summer Shop.
