Onimusha: Way of the Sword Release Date and Global Launch Times

Capcom's samurai action revival unlocks worldwide at the same moment, with the exact time listed for every major region.

Capcom’s samurai action revival unlocks worldwide at the same moment, with the exact time listed for every major region.

Status: Confirmed. Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches on Friday, September 4, 2026. Because it uses a single worldwide unlock, players on the U.S. West Coast can start the night before, on Thursday, September 3 at 9:00 PM PDT. It arrives on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Quick answer: The game unlocks simultaneously across all regions at 9:00 PM PDT on September 3 / 12:00 AM EDT on September 4. There is no early access edition, so every version opens at that same global moment.

Global launch times by region

The launch is tied to one clock rather than to local midnight in each country. That means the game becomes playable earlier in the day in the Americas and later in the day across Asia and Oceania. Use the table to find your local unlock.

Does the New Zealand trick work?

No. Because the game unlocks worldwide at a single time rather than at local midnight, switching an Xbox console’s region to New Zealand does not grant earlier access. In fact, New Zealand players receive the game later in their local day, at 4:00 PM NZST on September 4. PlayStation accounts are locked to their storefront region as well, so the workaround does not help there either.

Editions and prices

There are three editions. The step up in price adds cosmetics and charms rather than any early-play advantage, so pick based on how much bonus content you want.

EditionPriceWhat it adds
Standard$69.99Base game (available physically and digitally)
Deluxe$79.99Base game plus the Deluxe Kit of charms, sword appearances, the Red Armor outfit for Musashi, and the Crimson Lotus Oni Gauntlet
Premium Deluxe$89.99Everything in Deluxe plus three haori, three Okuni outfits, three Oni Lady outfits, and an in-game mini digital soundtrack

Sword appearances are cosmetic only. They change how the weapon looks in combat without altering its attacks, abilities, or stats.

Pre-order bonuses

Pre-ordering any edition grants the Lion Dog Charm and the Sealed Curse sword appearance. The Lion Dog Charm can be equipped to strengthen Miyamoto Musashi’s abilities, while Sealed Curse only changes the sword’s look. Higher editions add more charms, sword skins, gauntlet designs, and outfits.

  • Standard pre-order: Lion Dog Charm and Sealed Curse sword appearance.
  • Deluxe pre-order: Lion Dog Charm, White Monkey Charm, Sealed Curse and White Lion sword appearances.
  • Premium Deluxe pre-order: the Deluxe pre-order bonuses plus the full Premium Deluxe Kit contents.

Anyone who played the demo also earns a “Kubi Akari” charm that carries over once the full game is installed.

How to confirm the game has unlocked

You’ll know the launch has gone live when the store countdown on your platform reaches zero and the pre-loaded game switches from a locked or “pre-order” state to a playable “Launch” or “Play” button. If your console still shows a countdown after 9:00 PM PDT, restart the system or refresh the store page so it re-checks the unlock status.

Onimusha: Way of the Sword runs about 20 hours and follows Miyamoto Musashi through a dark-fantasy version of Edo-era Kyoto. With a simultaneous global release and no early-access tier, the fastest way in is simply pre-loading ahead of time so you’re ready the instant the countdown ends.
