The Blood of Dawnwalker: Dead Drop Full Quest

Trigger it at Catina’s grave, follow the tracks, and loot the stash holding the Ring of Purging.

Dead Drop is one of the quieter side quests in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and one of the few that costs nothing. It runs entirely on Focus Mode, ends in a hidden stash under a fallen tree, and drops a letter that hints at someone else keeping an eye on Brencis. There is no combat, no dialogue check, and no time segment spent, which makes it an easy pickup during the prologue when every hour matters.

Quick answer: Inspect Catina’s grave in the outcast’s burial ground, then use Focus Mode to follow the footprints past two carved tree symbols to a stash under a fallen trunk. Loot it and read the Mysterious Letter to finish the quest.

Where the outcast’s burial ground is

The burial ground sits out in the woods, well away from the church cemetery in the village. From the Outlaw’s Gorge Shrine, head west and look on the map for the large tree standing on its own in the middle of the forest. That tree marks the spot. When Coen arrives, he calls the place the outcast’s burial ground, which confirms you are in the right clearing.

You can reach it well before the prologue wraps up. Because Dead Drop consumes zero time segments, it slots neatly into a run where you are already out of the village on other errands, unlike the nearby bandit camp treasure map, which eats an hour to clear and another hour to dig.

How to trigger Dead Drop at Catina’s grave

Focus Mode is the whole quest. It is bound to right-click on PC, L2 on PlayStation, and LT on Xbox, and it highlights both graves in the clearing in yellow.

Enter the clearing and hold Focus Mode. Two graves light up. Inspect both rather than just the closest one.
One grave belongs to Catina, Vasil’s mother — the same Vasil involved in the Someone Needs a Lesson quest. The second is centuries old. Both have fresh flowers on them, and Coen flags how strange that is on a grave nobody should be tending. Catina’s grave also has a necklace laid on it.
Interacting with the grave starts Dead Drop and adds it to the Journal. If you want to confirm the objective before moving on, open the Journal and check the quest entry there.

Follow the tracks to the hidden stash

With the quest active, hold Focus Mode again next to the grave. Fresh footprints appear on the ground leading away from the burial site. They are only visible in Focus Mode, so keep tapping it as you walk.
Follow the prints along the path. The trail climbs uphill through rocky forest, and it breaks in a couple of places — re-enter Focus Mode whenever the prints run out to pick the line back up.

Partway along, a symbol carved into a tree trunk lights up as an objective marker. Inspect it, then keep following the footprints past it. The carving is a waypoint, not the endpoint.

The trail ends at a large broken tree with a second engraving on it. Inspect that symbol and Coen finds the stash tucked underneath the fallen trunk. Loot it to collect everything at once.

Dead Drop rewards

RewardDetails
Ring of PurgingSuperior ring, +3.2% damage against Supernatural enemies, weight 0.10, value 14
DenariusCurrency from the stash; the amount varies with when you loot it
Mysterious LetterOpens the readable Dead Drop Letter document
ExperienceXP +100 on completion
Time cost0 hours — no time segments spent

The Ring of Purging is worth equipping early if you are pushing into supernatural encounters, since the damage bonus applies specifically against that enemy type rather than to your general output. The item level shown on the ring reflects your progress when you pick it up.

The Dead Drop Letter and how to confirm the quest is done

Looting the stash is not the final beat. Open the Mysterious Letter from your inventory to bring up the Dead Drop Letter document, which reads:

L:
They know that you’re in Songora. Considering your past, I know you’ll be as careful as possible.
Your instructions are clear: watch and make notes. Do not intervene directly. Do not alert Brencis to your presence.
Good luck,
N.

Reading it completes Dead Drop and awards the 100 XP. You will see the quest move out of your active list in the Journal, and the XP notification pops on screen as the letter closes.

Note: If the footprints never appear, the quest almost certainly has not started. The trail only spawns after you interact with a grave in the clearing, and it only renders inside Focus Mode — walking the path with Focus Mode off shows nothing.

The identities behind “L” and “N” are left open here, which is the point. Someone is running an informant inside the valley and has been leaving flowers on a centuries-old grave as cover, and Brencis is not supposed to find out.
