The Blood of Dawnwalker: Throw the Notes in the Fire or Give Them to Anca?

Both outcomes of the Echoes of Silenced Bells decision, from Anca's reaction to the two different epilogue murals.

Both outcomes of the Echoes of Silenced Bells decision, from Anca’s reaction to the two different epilogue murals.

At the end of the Echoes of Silenced Bells quest in The Blood of Dawnwalker, Coen is handed a final decision after the fight against Leonica, She Who Speaks with the Devil. You can either burn the notes Leonica left behind or pass them to Anca so she can finish the ritual. The choice decides whether the cursed sisters of St. Tyna’s Covenant are freed or left as they are.

Quick answer: Give the notes to Anca to lift the curse and free the sisters. Throw them in the fire to leave the sisters cursed forever. Neither choice locks you out of finishing the quest, and both carry over into the epilogue as a different mural and different rumors around Laslea Glen.

When the choice appears

The decision only unlocks near the end of the quest, inside the catacombs. Push the bookcase aside to reveal the passage, then work through the mostly linear route while clearing the sisters blocking the way. The room at the far end holds the boss, Leonica, whom Coen and Anca fight together.

After the fight, Anca realizes Leonica had been trying to free the sisters from their curse and was stopped at the last step. That is when the game asks whether to throw the notes into the fire or give them to Anca.

What each choice does

ChoiceAnca’s reactionThe sisters
Throw the notes in the fireUpset, but she gets over itRemain cursed forever
Give the notes to AncaPerforms the ritual, but seems more stressed over her “new sins”Freed from the curse

Neither option ends the quest early, so pick based on the outcome you want. If you are unsure, this is a good spot to save first so you can reload and compare.

Epilogue consequences (spoilers)

The two endings play out later as separate murals and separate rumors, so the decision has a lasting effect rather than a one-time reaction.

If Anca completes the ritual, a mural shows a peaceful St. Tyna’s Covenant with the fog lifted and the nuns at rest. Even so, people stay wary of the place, and some still believe it is haunted.

If Coen burns the papers and stops Anca, a different mural appears showing the covenant full of lifeless sisters, with people still getting lost in the fog. Some villagers report that even after locking their windows and doors, they can hear the nuns chanting outside. Walking around Laslea Glen in the epilogue, Coen can also read a letter pinned to a tree from a knight who wants to deal with St. Tyna’s Covenant, though nothing more comes of it.

Loose end before you leave

If you never settled things with Brencis’s soldiers earlier in the quest, they show up near the end before you exit. You can either hand over the Relic of St. Tyna or fight them. Deal with that final encounter, and the quest closes out on whichever ending your notes decision set in motion.
