Medicus I sits on the Witchcraft branch of Coen’s character menu, and its top upgrade won’t open until you feed it a physical book. The perk itself is small but genuinely useful — it raises how many consumables you can stuff into a Quickslot, which matters a lot in a game that keeps you on a timer.
Quick answer: Loot the chest at the top of Rockfalls Tower in the southern part of the map for the Medicus I Manual, then read it from your inventory before the upgrade will apply.
Every Medicus I Manual source in Vale Sangora
There is no hard cap on manuals in The Blood of Dawnwalker, and Medicus I is one of the more common ones. Copies sit in fixed chests, hang on vendor stock lists, and occasionally drop off defeated enemies. If you only need one, the tower chests are the fastest guaranteed pickup.
| Where | Details |
|---|---|
| Rockfalls Tower | Chest on the wooden scaffolding inside the ruined tower, southern region of the map |
| St. Tryna’s Grove Tower | Chest at the tower |
| Boar’s Back Tower | Chest at the tower |
| Vera, Witchcraft Vendor | Sold in Maragir Wealds |
| Matriarch, Witchcraft Vendor | Sold from her stock |
| Enemy drops | Random loot from killed enemies |
Note: buying is the lazy route, but higher-tier manuals run into the thousands of Denarius. Grabbing this one off a tower keeps your coin for gear.

Rockfalls Tower sits on top of a steep rock face, and there is no gentle path up. You need Coen’s traversal ability to make the climb, so don’t attempt this before you have it.

Reading the manual and confirming the perk unlocked
Picking up a manual does nothing on its own. Open your inventory, select the Medicus I Manual, and read it — expect the odd jump scare when you do, which is a deliberate quirk of the reading animation.
To verify it worked, open the character menu and go to the Witchcraft branch. Medicus I should now accept the upgrade that was previously locked, and once you spend the skill point the perk raises the consumable limit on a Quickslot.
Why the Medicus I upgrade still won’t apply
- The manual is sitting unread in your inventory. It has to be read before the node changes.
- You’re looking in the wrong branch. Medicus I is under Witchcraft, not Swordmastery.
- You have the manual but no skill points banked to spend on the node.
- You’re hunting for a Vampirism manual. Those don’t exist — Vampirism skills scale off Corruption Level, which rises by drinking blood.
If Rockfalls Tower is out of your way or you’ve already emptied that chest, Vera in Maragir Wealds keeps Medicus I on her shelf and the Matriarch stocks it as well. And since manuals drop off enemies at random, there’s a reasonable chance a second copy lands in your bags before you ever go looking for one.
